摘      要:THE DEFINITION OF an advocate is a person who pleads for or on behalf of another. Peri-anesthesia nurses care for patients and families in the most vulnerable of states, from the preadmission process through discharge from the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) and phase II. Patients in our care need an advocate (someone to speak on behalf of them) to keep them safe and ensure that they get through the process with the best possible outcome. Nurses have a role that is more than caring and compassion. We tend to be modest and humble at times. We often do not speak out about what we do or what we know. Our skill set includes technical skills and a vast knowledge base. We also demonstrate competency, communication, and critical thinking on a daily basis. Advocacy is another one of our skills that most nurses demonstrate on a daily basis without even knowing it.
