摘 要:This paper presents a flow control algorithm for a general-purpose computer-based residential gateway (RG) in a broadband access network. Flow control (bandwidth allocation) is one of the key elements in the RG software that is called the RG operating system. A credit-based flow control algorithm is proposed in this paper. The algorithm provides guaranteed services to CBR (constant bit rate) applications and allows VBR (variable bit rate) applications to share the link bandwidth within their delay tolerances through a credit system. The algorithm has been implemented in a real-time RG operating system which enables a personal computer to serve as an RG in an Asynchronous Transfer Mode-based (ATM) broadband access network. An experimental study on the efficiency of the algorithm and the methods of credit management is also presented in this paper. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
