摘 要:IT IS WITH GREAT HUMILITY and pride that I accept the distinct honor of presenting the 33rd Waiter J. Zeiter Lecture. I want to thank the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPM&R) Awards Committee and the Board of Governors for affording me this significant honor. It is very humbling to be recognized by one s peers and to realize that recognition indicates that one shares with Waiter Zeiter his attributes of statesmanship, scholarship, executive leadership, and warm friendship. In keeping with the tradition of the Zeiter Lecture, I will review the history of our field, and in doing so hope to persuade you that collaboration among rehabilitation medicine organizations and consumer groups is a logical extension of that history.(1).
