摘      要：After a brief description of qualitative modelling, current methods to resolve ambiguities within qualitative modelling are discussed. Examples are given showing how unit-based qualitative modelling can lead to incorrect or ambiguous inference. A new modular approach is presented which overcomes this type of problem.
