摘      要：The operating principles and advantages and disadvgantages of single drum winches, twin-capstan winches (traction winch) with separate winders, cobra multiple-pully capstan winches, and band winches are described. This article outlines the development of the band winch, which solves all cable wear problems, from the single drum winch.;The third generation of capstan winch, used on the Marion Dufresne II, solves all cable wear problems. The principle consists in winding up the cable four wraps around a single capstan and in inserting a grooved plastic endless band between the cable and the capstan drum. The torque is transmitted by friction. Disadvantages of this winch include its large size and the need for wear piece replacement. Consistent with the major design improvement, the system features all-electric capstan and winder motorization, with AC motors and vectorial variable-speed drives. The new design demonstrates the following advantages: full control capabilities;uncomplicated maintenance and installation;and fast trouble-free access and upgradability.
