摘 要:H. Gr. Wells said, \Human history is in essence a history of ideas.\ I would propose that there are some ideas that must wait to be realized, whether for some new technology or simply the willingness to challenge the current understanding, and I believe this is the case for Randall\ s plaque (RP). The RP theory of stone pathogenesis is not new. As early as 1937 Alexander Randall, using a series of cadaveric kidneys, described interstitial papillary and medullary deposits of apatite (plaque) in approximately 20% of kidneys and in some cases stones attached to this plaque.1 Randall hypothesized this plaque was the perfect nidus for crystallization.
