摘      要:Inter-organizational systems (IOS) that enable cross-enterprise value creation have moved in the focus of both the scientific and business community. However, a lack of formal methodological backing, and the absence of proven collaboration concepts and architectures have up to now limited the impact of IOS in practical application. In this paper, we focus on external coordination requirements in IOS based on an analysis of B2B protocol standards, and system theory based classification of IOS elements. A protocol vector is introduced to represent the set of protocols used in a particular collaboration scenario. A flexible component-based architecture is proposed in order to implement the protocol vector. Therefore, a process for derivation of required components is introduced, and a selected part of the architecture is presented. © Springer-Verlag 2004.
