摘      要：The article describes a modified implementation of Forney s algorithm for determiningdminanddfreeof a conventional code when a ready-made sequential decoder is not available. This has been obtained by eliminating certain complexities in the Fano algorithm and is based on successive estimation of the values. Results for binary and ternary rate—½ codes are presented.
