Background Acute fatty liver of pregnancy(AFLP) can lead to fatal liver damage that occur in the third trimester or early postpartum *** effect of traditional therapy is not very ideal for facilitating hepatic *** safety and effect of non-bioartificial liver(NBAL) in application for treating AFLP are lacking systematic introduction. Aim Analysis of the timing and efficacy of non-bioartificial liver(NBAL) in the treatment of acute fatty liver of pregnancy(AFLP). Methods We observed the clinical data of 5 cases of AFLP treated with NBAL from 2007 to 2012 including symptoms,physical signs,adverse effects,and compared all relevant laboratory test results before and after NBAL. Results (1) Side effects during NBAL were slight and well-tolerated,and no patients interrupted treatment because of negligible side effects;Clinical symptoms,signs,and liver and renal functions can be ameliorated significantly after NBAL;(2) In the 5 cases treated,4 were cured,1 succeeded in bridging to transplantation;(3) In the 4 cases cured,the sooner a AFLP patient received NBAL the better the curative effect. Conclusion Treatment of AFLP by NBAL is safe and effective,and early application of NBAL in AFLP patients can effectively treat and reverse progress of the disease.

Backgrounds:Glypican-3(GPC-3) has been reported as one of the most promising serum markers for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),while several studies have conflicting results for the diagnostic accuracy between GPC-3 and alpha-fetoprotein(AFP). Methods:Studies that explored the diagnostic value of GPC-3 and AFP in HCC were searched in MEDLINE,EMBASE,PUBMED,the Cochrane Library and Chinese BioMedical Literature Database(CBM).Sensitivity,specificity and other measures about the accuracy of serum GPC-3 and AFP in the diagnosis of HCC were pooled using random-effects *** receiver operating characteristic curve(sROC) analysis was used to summarize the overall test performance. Results:Ten studies were included in our *** pooled sensitivity for AFP and GPC-3 are:AFP 51.9%(95%confidence interval(CI):0.47-0.56),GPC-3 59.2%(95%CI:0.55-0.63);while the pooled specificity for AFP and GPC-3 are:AFP 94%(95%CI:92.1%to 95.6%),GPC-3 84.8%(95%CI:82%to 87.3%).The pooled diagnostic odds ratio(DOR):AFP 23.4(95%CI: 10.3-53.2),GPC-3 17.99(95%CI:5.4-60.4).Area under sROC for AFP and GPC-3 are the same as 0.81(95%CI:0.77-0.84). Conclusions:GPC-3 is comparable to AFP as a serum marker for the diagnosis of HCC, combination of AFP and GPC-3 can elevate the sensitivity of diagnosis.
