Thirty to 50%of people with major depressive disorder do not respond(or partial respond) to the usual recommended dose of first line *** following strategies should be adopted for managing treatment resistant depression:[Step 1].Re-evaluation of the diagnosis. For example, bipolar disorder, delusional disorder or even organic depression should be ruled out. [Step 2].Evaluation of the patient's compliance/*** adherence was noted in 25-28% patients with MDD within one month, and over 40%within 3 *** adherence estimated to account for 20%of treatment resistant cases.[Step 3].Reappraising the treatment regimen. Current guidelines recommend several strategies for the management of inadequate responder of MDD:Switching to a different antidepressant for non responder;add-on treatment for partial

Objective N-methyl-D-aspartate(NMDA) receptor ligands have been shown to rapidly treat depression but are associated with psychotomimetic ***-13(ThrProProThr-amide) is an NMDA receptor glycine site functional partial agonist with~25%of the agonist activity of glycine or *** models suggest a single intravenous dose may produce long-term efficacy without psychotomimetic effects.A phase II randomized,double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted to assess the efficacy of GLYX-13 in subjects with inadequate response to previous treatment for major depressive disorder(MDD).This study examines the use of remote blinded independent Central Ratings to assess the efficacy and safety of a putative rapid onset intravenous antidepressant(GLYX-13) with a study design utilizing frequently repeated psychiatric assessments.

The aim of this study is to investigate a set of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within 10 candidate genes for their possible association with clinical outcomes for major depression(MD),bipolar disorder(BD),and response to antidepressants and mood stabilizers,in a sample of Korean *** hundred forty-five(145) in-patients suffering from MD,132 in-patients suffering from BD,and 170 psychiatrically healthy controls were genotyped for 42 SNPs within genes ABCBl,ABCB4,TAP2,CLOCK,CPLXl,CPLX2,SYN2,NRGl,5HTR1A, and *** and final clinical measures, including the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression(HAMD) and the Young Mania Rating Scale(YMRS),were *** did not observe any significant association between the genetic variants investigated in the present study and the clinical *** findings preliminarily suggest the lack of influence of the 42 investigated SNPs on MD and BD susceptibility and on the response to pharmacological treatments of these ***,taking into account the several limitations of our study, further research is needed to draw more definitive conclusions.

Lithium,a direct inhibitor of glycogen synthase kinase 3(GSK-3),has been widely prescribed mood stabilizer in treatment of bipolar *** suggests that lithium affects monocytic cells, which play pivotal roles in the innate immune systems in both the brain and peripheral *** major studies into the mechanism of action of lithium has been focused on neuron, astrocyte and oligocyte, recent studies indicate that lithium and GSK-3 inhibition also affect immune cells, such as peripheral monocytes, macrophages, monocyte-derived dendritic cells and *** and GSK-3 inhibition are shown to mediate inflammation, microglial migration,monocyte-derived dendritic cells differentiation and reverse monocytic malfunction observed in neuropsychiatric *** confirmed the lithium significantly increased the chemokine production via GSK-3 inhibition in the mouse and human monocytic *** data suggest that clinical treatment of lithium via GSK-3 inhibition by increasing chemokine expression in central/peripheral differentiation monocytic cells directly associate to immune defense system.

Objective This study aims to explore the effect of fluoxetine on memory, locomotor and depressive behavior in transient forebrain ischemic model of gerbil. Methods The two doses of fluoxetine(10,40 mg/kg) or vehicle were intraperitoneally administered once 30 min before ischemic surgery in *** object recognition test, spontaneous motor activity, learned helplessness test were performed 4 days,8 days,or 9 days, respectively, after sham or ischemic surgery. Results Fluoxetine treatment(40 mg/kg) significantly reduced recognition memory in sham operated ***,fluoxetine(10,40 mg/kg) did not affect ischemia-induced impairment in recognition *** treatment of fluoxetine(10,40 mg/kg) significantly inhibited locomotor hyperactivity induced by transient ischemia even though fluoxetine(40 mg/kg) did not affect spontaneous motor activity in the sham operated *** did not affect depressive behavior in sham and ischemic gerbils. Conclusion The treatment of fluoxetine inhibited ischemia - induced hyperactivity, but did not affect memory and depressive behavior in transient forebrain ischemic gerbils.

Objective We measured the prevalence of CVD and depression in elderly Chinese citizens living in the community to establish a foundation for a comprehensive CVD treatment and prevention program. Methods We constructed a questionnaire to assess the most frequent CVDs in the community elderly and used the Center for Epidemiology Scale-Depression(CES-D) self-report survey to evaluate the coincidence of depression. Results Among the 3176 participants, the most prevalent CVDs were hypertension(1414/3171, 44.6%),hyperlipidemia(727/3092,23.4%),coronary heart disease(554/3098,17.7%),and angina pectoris(276/3094,8.8%).These CVDs were either more frequent in females, for example,*** symptoms were significantly more prevalent in elderly subjects with angina pectoris,CHD and hypertension, but not hyperlipidemia or arrhythmia. Logistic regression analysis suggested that older age, higher alcohol consumption, and angina were predictors of depression in elderly CVD patients. Conclusions The prevalence of depression is significantly higher in elderly Chinese individuals with angina pectoris,CHD,or hypertension than in the general elderly *** associated with these CVDs may contribute to depression, while depression may exacerbate CVD.

Objective Duloxetine is an antidepressant that effects a serotonergic and noradrenergic neurotransmitter, and a useful agent in the treatment of the patients with anxiety or depressive *** to the recently reported study results, combination therapy with 2 antidepressants in the treatment of patients with major depressive disorders did not show a superior efficacy but did show the more adverse events than *** purpose of this study was to evaluate sex differences in effectiveness of duloxetine monotherapy compared to combination therapy with other antidepressants in patients with anxiety or depressive disorders.
