The relationship between algal community structure and soil microenvironment in the Gobi Desert was investigated in the Hexi Corridor of Gansu(China, between 37°45′21″-41°26′ 36″N, 94°62′33″.-102°88′26″E)during *** 36 taxa were identified from 448 samples of 20 sites,21 environmental parameters of including natural landscape, climate, geography and soil were analyzed *** results showed that 88.89% of species were cyanobacteria,89.13% of biomass was from blue-green algae;Schizothrix was the most abundant genus;Schizothrix fragile was the most abundant species, but Phormidium tenue was the only species present in all kinds of *** above two, Chroococcidiopsis sp.,Nostoc sp.,Lyngbya dendrobia ***,Lyngbya semiplena, Schizothrix friesii,Schizothrix mascarenica and Microcoleus vaginatus were also common species of most microenvironments, but 75% species were only confined to 1-3 kinds of microhabitats, with 33 % species only found in a special ***,*** and *** were common species of brown desert soil, gray desert soil and gray brown desert *** Correspondence Analysis(CCA)showed that the community was mainly decided by microscale parameters ofPO4,available N,effective Fe and Mn and clay, and they were all obviously affected by macroscale factors of slope inclination and elevation. Multi-Response Permutation Procedures(MRPP)analysis and Mantel test showed it was feasible to approximately determine algal community composition according to the topsoil color, and soil samples with ca.200 mm size was enough to analyze community composition when the topsoil color and texture was the same for biological soil *** the above basis, the possible application of algae in desertification control was discussed as well.
