Drug resistance in cancer is a major obstacle to successful chemotherapy. Cancer cells exposed to anti-tumordrugs may be directly induced to express a subset of genes that could confer resistance. KB cells have been used forselection of the multidrug resistant (MDR) cell lines. These cells were chosen for the study of MDR because theyare highly sensitive to most chemotherapeutic drugs and they can be cloned with high efficiency and grow rapidly.
