Bill Houston, Jeff Thorpe, Han Guodong, Zhao Mengli, Brant Kirychuk, Bazil FritzAgriculture and Agri-Food Canada - Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration, 1800 Hamilton Street, Regina, Saskatchewan Canada, S4P *** purpose of this guide is to provide a standard method to quantitatively assess the impact of livestock grazing on range condition in IMAR and then recommend an appropriate stocking rate. Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (IMAR) has considerable information on its grassland resources. Grassland surveys have provided information for a very comprehensive reference called Inner Mongolia Rangeland Resources (IMRRC 1990). 1 IntroductionWith the establishment of Three Gorges Dam, 632 km2 land will be submerged, more than 1 million local people must immigrate to other places, and almost 430 thousand hm2 farmland will be returned back to forests and grassland in the next five years. The grassland, as one of the important factors in restoring vegetation in this reservoir, developed fast and played key role in ecological construction. While forage varieties being adapted to this region are very limited, and the lands to be used as grassland are much different in soil fertility, the perennial artificial grassland seriously degenerated and the grass composition was unstable. The object of this paper is to study theProductivity of newly established artificial grassland in different kinds of pre-crop lands along the Changjiang River.
