A vast amount of information data must be inputted before finite element calculation of steel buildings, such as node information, element information and load information. So it is necessary to develop a computer aided design system with 3D interactive function. A CAD system for steel buildings based on objectarx was developed with AutoCAD API and the Object-oriented technique. In this paper, some key programming technologies were studied, including design of classes of structure, identification of floor system and implementation of reactors.

A tall and slender structure will have relatively large lateral deformation under the action of lateral wind load and seismic load, and the structure's lateral stiffness is rather small, so the second-order effect should be obvious. The second-order analysis of an asymmetric and tall steel tower is introduced, and the results between this second-order analysis and its linear analysis are compared. The comparison shows that the second-order analysis is necessary and important, and at the same time it demonstrates that the design of this tower is safe.

Taking a desulfurizing tower for example, the reinforcement method of a rectangular opening in large cylindrical shell structure subjected to axial compression together with internal hydrostatic pressure is studied on the basis of finite element method. The stress distribution regularity in opening region and reinforcement effect is investigated on the basis of different reinforcement methods. Furthermore, the comparison of stress and steel consumption between different reinforcement methods is performed, then an economic and rational reinforcement method and the determination of dimension of reinforcement are proposed.

The performance of the box-column(without stiffing plates inside) and H beam joint at the tension region of the beam flange was first *** the simplified model for analysis was established and twenty models were analysed with the nonlinear finite element *** the impact of the width of the beam flange,the thickness of the column flange and the axial load ratio of the column on the behavior of the joint were also discussed. Finally,the ruling condition of the load-carrying capacity of the joint was established,according to which the formula to calculate the bearing capacity of the joint was suggested and the results from the suggested formula and FEM analysis were compared.

In this paper, based on the mode curvature method and the artificial neural network technology, a new method for damage localization for long-span spatial lattice structures is introduced. Through the investigation and comparison, the parameters suitable for the damage localization of the long-span spatial lattice structures are determined, and the different damage cases for a long-span cantilever tubular truss structure of the stadium in Tianjin Olympic Sport Center are numerically simulated to verify the applicability and effectiveness of the established damage localization method.
