澳大利亚著名汉学家皮埃尔·利克曼斯1935年生在比利时,在洛芬天主教大学主修法学、美术史。他十九岁时(1955年五月)参加比利时学生代表团到中国考察,旅游名胜古迹,他觉得很精彩,回国前还被周恩来接见,集体谈话一个小时。以后他决定钻研中国语文,从1958到1970年在台湾、香港、新加坡留学。1970年应中文系主任柳存仁的邀请到澳大利亚首都堪培拉的澳洲国立大学。利克曼斯的博士论文是关于石涛《苦瓜和尚画语录》,著有法文译注(1970年出版);另有法文《苏仁山:造反派,画家,狂人》一书(1972年)。后来在1972年他在比利时驻北京大使馆当文化参赞,以后回国立大学任教17年。他说那十七年是他一生中最幸福的日子。1988年到悉尼大学当中文系主任,在1993年提前退休。退休以后他写不少文学与文化评论方面的文章,发表在《纽约评论》等期刊,譬如他有一篇是评论五本关于堂吉诃德的新书,写得很精彩。他还写过中篇幻想小说《拿破仑之死》(2001年拍成电影),但除了1986年莫里森演说"中国人对过去的态度"以外,大部分跟汉学无关。2014年他在澳大利亚过世。利克曼斯之所以闻名于西方,倒不是因为他的汉学成就,而是因为他学鲁迅写匕首杂文抨击文化大革命摧毁中国文化,西方大学的商业化、美国大学的专门化、人文科学的理论化摧残教育等题目。关于文革时期的中国,他用笔名西门·雷斯出版了三本法文杂文集:《主席的新衣服》(1971年)、《中国的黑影》(1974年)以及《破碎了的意象》(1976年),都有英文翻译,发行相当广。另外,他把鲁迅的《野草》翻译成法文(1975年),并写了长篇序文(《破碎了的意象》中也有英文翻译)。在序文中他介绍了鲁迅的生平,著作以及鲁迅在现代中国文化上的地位和重要性,对鲁迅的评价很高(这在西方保守派学者里是很少见到的)。利克曼斯为什么痛恨中·西方左派而对鲁迅特别尊敬?为什么有人认为他把鲁迅"审美化"了?利克曼斯对汉学以及整个西方学府的看法和结论是什么?西门·雷斯此笔名之谜何解?本论文试图回答这些问题。

Thailand constitutes an integrated ecosystems of the Lower Mekong River Basin.A portion of the northern region and the entire northeastern region of the country contain watershed area of about 42.9 % with flow rate about 27.9 % of the *** 30 million people live in this *** the past 4 decades,the ecosystems have been gradually under degradation trends,because of less well planned public development schemes and population *** promotion of quick cash crops,unsustainable use of biodiversity,urbanization and overconsumption of fossil-based energy appear to be major *** reverse such trends,there have been several organizations,both public and private,national and international,working in the *** of these is the Global Environment Facility's Small Grants Programme(GEF SGP)which was implemented in Thailand since 1994,and later in Vietnam,Cambodia and Lao *** the past seven years(2008-mid 2014),Thailand GEF SGP has been working with communities and other stakeholders in the ecosystems by awarding grants to 29 *** activities carried out were aimed to conserve and plan sustainable use of biodiversity,reverseland degradation,manage trans-boundary water body from forested uplands down to river banks and promote the adoption of renewable *** by the communities and under participatory approaches,these projects have directly involved approximately 12,831 families,while approximately 65,889 families reside in the immediate surroundings thus benefit from the projects to some *** a rough estimate,these projects have contributed to systems of co-management and sustainable community practices in the ecosystems as follows: 2,808-ha of watershed area 2,032-ha of wetland 4,325-ha of cultivated/marginal lands In these locations,the reported approximate figures as indicators of accomplishment are as follows: 97,725 native trees being planted 200 plant species(several of these are landrace and threatened) bei

Leopard(Panthera pardus) diet has been studied in different ecosystems across globe and is found to have a wide range of prey of varying ***,leopard is the top order predator in the Kashmir Himalayan ecosystem its conservation and management requires scientific inputs so that the whole ecosystem is conserved and ***- animal conflict being the major threat to large carnivores all across their distribution range is a big impediment in leopard conservation in the study area as ***,it becomes imperative to study conditions leading carnivores to indulge in conflict with *** investigated prey availability and dietary preferences of leopards in Dachigam National Park,Kashmir,India located in 2A Bio-geographic zone Western *** was conducted in the area from the year 2011 to *** sampling methodology was used to enumerate the prey abundance across different seasons.A total of 714 fecal samples of leopard encompassing all the four seasons were analyzed using standard protocols to study the prey items *** available prey biomass was found to be low and showed a seasonal variation with highest being available during winter(886 kg/km2) and lowest(347.6 kg/km2) during *** of large prey showed a decreasing trend from winter to the summer season due to seasonal migration shown by Hangul(Cervus elaphus hanglu) and Langur(Semnopithecus ajax).Due to low availability of large prey,rodents consistently emerged as most frequently utilized prey in all the four seasons(43.7%) and this utilization varied with seasons,as governed by large prey *** species in the form of sheep and goat contributed 16.69% to 19.05% to biomass consumed in different *** only a small portion of leopard diet which varied from 1.57% to 8.36% in terms of percent biomass from summer to *** study lays emphasis on generalist behavior of leopard which sustains itself in an area with low and seasonally

Philippines has been considered as one of the megadiverse countries yet regarded as the most severely endangered biodiversity hotspot particularly in terms of vertebrate *** the ongoing threat on Philippine fauna,lack of systematic survey impedes effective conservation in most areas including the Surigao watershed despite of its consideration as protected *** watershed represents a potentially important site for several terrestrial vertebrate species since it is still largely forested however there has been scarcity of vertebrate fauna studies in the *** sampling methods were employed to examine the structure of vertebrate faunal community,diversity,distribution,endemicity and conservation status across various sampling locations(Montane forest,lowland forest,riparian zone and regeneration zone) within the Surigao *** revealed a total of 29 species of birds recorded in the study area,46% of which are Philippine *** amphibian species were identified,54% of which are Philippine endemics including the vulnerable endemics Ansonia muelleri and Megophrys stejnegeri and a near threatened native species Limnonectes magnus being extensively harvested for food by the *** the 11 recorded reptile species,more than half of which are Philippine endemics mostly with decreasing population *** regards to chiropteran fauna,eight bat species were identified,50% of which are Philippine *** species of the four recorded non volant mammals are Philippine endemics with the presence of the vulnerable endemic Sus philippensis which had suffered from extensive *** of community metrics for each survey locations showed that vertebrate species richness were mostly higher in lowland forest(300-700 masl) than any other sampling areas within the Surigao *** analysis suggested that vertebrate faunal composition differed more distinctly between advanced secondary forest(Montane forest,lowland f

"Internships" are generally understood as temporary on-the-job experiences that provide educational benefits, preparation for a career, and positive contributions to the goals of the employment setting. Internships may be paid or unpaid. They are often part of an educational program and may provide the intern with educational credits that lead to the awarding of a degree or certification. There is a long tradition of using on-the-job experiences as part of vocational education. In the United States, many skilled trades are based on an apprenticeship system, which uses a form of internship, although that term is not used. Typically, these trainees are paid at a lower rate and, in the case of skilled crafts, such as electrician or pipe-fitter, there are often associated classroom components to their apprenticeships. In addition to formal programs, employers in many states are allowed to pay a "training wage" of about half of the minimum wage during the first three months of employment. The use of internships is also seen for professions. In some educational programs, internships are optional. A student may choose an internship experience if they feel it will be helpful in their education or for getting a job. In other situations, internships may be a required part of the educational experience. For example, medical training includes formal internships and internships are a central part of university programs for social work. Some internship situations, however, have raised serious labor rights problems both in the United States and in China. In China, there have been situations where students from somevocational schools have been used for factory work and not paid fully because they are being classified as "trainees." In the United States there has been a growing legal challenge to interns who are not being paid or are being underpaid. The key legal issue is whether interns should be treated as employees under Fair Labor Standards Act(FLSA), which establishes minimum

Snow leopards(Panthera uncia) are globally endangered due to the impact of human *** most part of their range they are persecuted as retribution due to livestock *** addition,poaching and illegal trade,habitat degradation,loss of natural prey due to overgrazing and uncontrolled hunting are major threats to the *** sparse distribution in rugged mountains and difficult logistics have hindered long term ecological studies and left information gaps for the initiation of site-specific conservation *** Nepal,research conducted till date has been of short duration and in smaller,localized *** density,food habits,habitat use and the status of conflict are not known at larger spatial *** their wide distribution and large home ranges,landscape level ecological studies have now been initiated in the Annapurna-Manaslu landscape,a large area of 4,237km2(approx.) bordering China in the north-central part of the *** landscape is considered a core habitat of snow leopard in Nepal and has pronounced gradient both in terms of physiography and vegetation from east to northwest with presumably marked differences in abundance and composition of natural and domestic prey and also in co-existing predators(***,golden jackal,lynx,brown bear).Based on previous sign surveys,we have selected 22 blocks(5x5 km),which cover all the available and accessible snow leopard *** will use non-invasive DNA scat analyses to address some vital research questions,like individual space use,connectivity and dispersal distances,as well for estimating population abundance from capture-recapture *** selection will be examined from analysis of genetically verified scats,and prey abundances will be estimated from censuses conducted during October andNovember when most of the ungulates descend to lower *** on livestock depredation will be collected from interviews with herders and verified with data maint

Plato introduced the analysis of emotions into philosophy as part of his division between the rational and emotional parts of the soul. Aristotle further developed Plato's remarks on the constitutive elements of occurrent emotions, distinguishing between their cognitive, affective, dynamic, and physiological aspects. Aristotle had a more positive view of emotions than Plato did;in his view, learning to feel emotions well is part of acquiring the virtues of character. The Stoics argued for the unity and rationality of the human soul and, consequently, rejected the idea of an emotional part of the soul. They regarded emotions as value-judgements, by which people mistakenly evaluate things from their subjective perspectives. The Stoic therapy of emotions aimed at apatheia, the extirpation of emotions. Apart from some Stoic ideas, later ancient thinkers mostly followed the psychological conception of Plato and Aristotle. They argued for the moderation of emotions and separated them from the rational faculties of the soul. Twelfth and early thirteenth-century Latin theories of emotions were particularly influenced by Platonic theories mediated by Augustine and Avicenna's faculty psychology as well as Galenist medical views. Combining these approaches with Aristotelian doctrines led to new taxonomical models in the thirteenth century such as Aquinas' s very influential classification. An important turning-point in medieval psychology of emotions was Scotus' s questioning the sharp divide between the psychosomatic passions of the sensory soul and the psychological phenomena of the intellectual part in traditional theories. He argued that joy and distress as the feelings of the intellect are passions of the will and distinct from active volitions and sensory movements. InScotus' s view these feelings as inner states of the emotional intellect strongly influence behaviour as motivational factors and should be paid particular attention in education. When developing socio-ecological infrastructure for new cities, it is useful to compare the patterns and performance of distant cities in earlier times. This paper takes its inspiration from research on ancient urban water systems in China, which it compares with ancient water infrastructure in South Asian and North American cities. In so doing, it examines cities that were "new" millennia ago. They developed innovative water infrastructures that did, or did not, prove resilient in the face of complex social and environmental pressures. The emerging field of socio-hydrology is used to address these urban infrastructure issues. Socio-hydrology builds upon the field of ecohydrology, whichintegrates physical sciences approaches in hydrology with ecological processes of evapotranspiration, aquatic ecology, and evolutionary biology. Socio-hydrologists argue that social and ecohydrology processes co-evolve and that they must be understood as coupled systems. This paper strives to advance the field in three ways. First, it focuses on the urban scale of socio-hydrology, which has been neglected in comparison with regional and global research. Second, although urban water systems have been studied in engineering hydrology and increasingly in urban landscape design, they are rarely treated as co-evolving infrastructures that must develop and change over long periods of time. The third experiment in this paper is to compare the origins of ancient urban water systems that were "new" in the past with the challenges and innovations relevant for new cities in the future. The overarching argument is that the patterns and performance of ancient water infrastructure can be instructive for urban environmental design in the future. Positive examples include the enduring emphasis on urban watershed protection, stream restoration, floodplain management, and post-disaster reconstruction. Giant panda are restricted to 30 isolated populations,13 of which are small enough to be considered a high extinction *** the species has been the focus of intense conservation efforts for decades,most conservation efforts to restore the habitat connectivity remain hypothetical due to the lack of reliable quantitative *** addition,although the habitat requirements of giant panda have been broadly studied,there is a gap of knowledge on the degree and direction of their interaction with sympatric large *** this study,we constructed an integrated framework to combine species habitat modeling,inter-species co-occurrence analysis,and scenario analysis for giant panda conservation *** surveyed 953 sites with camera traps,sign transects and vegetation plots from 2008-2013 in Qinling Mountains,Minshan Mountains,and Qionglai Mountains,*** models were constructed for giant panda and other 4 large mammal species to determine the relationship between species distribution,species co-occurrence,environmental variables and human *** results of habitat modeling were used to assess habitat suitability and measure habitat connectivity.A network of hypothetical dispersal corridors was generated,and evaluations were made to predict the effectiveness of different management *** found that due to giant panda‘s association with areas of low elevation and flat terrain,human infrastructures in the same area have resulted in habitat *** further revealed significant negative interaction giant panda and domestic cattle within bamboo forest,the primary habitat of giant *** proposed an integrated conservation planning,with conservation efforts focused on the identified areas with high potential to function as movement corridors,as well as a more strict grazing control of domestic cattle in protected *** framework has general value in any conservation activities that anticipate improving habitat quality

China's fast growing metropolitan regions have a healthy appetite for increasingly sophisticated public infrastructure and other services. Most of these require land, and cumulatively – this means a lot of land. Much of this land is inevitably in farmland use. In China this also entails deep differences between the urban and rural land regimes. This paper takes an in-depth look at expropriation law and policy in various countries, as well as alternative modes for obtaining land for the public. All or most legal regimes in the world give governments the authority to expropriate real property(land, buildings and other attachments) for public purposes. At the same time, there are significant differences among countries in various aspects of the laws and their implementation in practice. Since there is no expropriation regime that is considered satisfactory by all stakeholders, there is much room for cross-national exchange of knowledge. To an outsider, such differences may seem trivial, but where expropriation is concerned, "the devil is in the detail". The presentation will open with the parameters for analyzing differences among expropriation regimes in selected Western countries. I will then focus on one of the key components: The definition of the public purpose. There are major differences among countries in what is regarded as a legitimate public purpose, especially regarding the demarcation line between "public" and economic interests. Most legal and theoretical discussions of public purpose pertain only to the initial use. The issue of "public purpose" is heightened whenquestions are posed over time, where change occurs in the public purpose subsequent to expropriation. The presentation will analyze why this issue has been generating growing controversy in recent years, and why emerging economies led by China may wish to look ahead and consider alternatives modes.
