To live responsibly in it, we have to acknowledge that our every thought and every movement carries all the way to the far reaches of the cosmos and impacts everything else in it. Rather than seeing ourselves as limited entities, we need to see ourselves as part of universal evolution and connect to the cosmos consciously and directly.

The ecological crisis today’s global community is facing can be hardly overcome unless t here is the proper dialogue and collaboration among civilizations. This paper focuses on t he two crucial texts of the two great religious and cultural traditions, i.e., the Romans of the New Testament and the Confucian classic Zhong Yong. An authentically intercultural interpretation of the two texts requires a fully elaborated intertextual understanding of ea ch text in its living tradition as ‘Wirkungsgeschichte’(history of effects). The particular te xt of Romans 8:18-25 will be interpreted in light of the Exodus story of the Old Testam ent while the specific portion of Zhong Yong 22 will be highlighted in terms of the broa d perspective of Confucian sage learning. The intercultural reading of the two texts for th e care for our common home will prove that not the clash but the dialogue of civilizatio ns will enhance the survival and liberation of both the human and the globe.
