Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) is one of the most popular and world-wide consumed vegetables and has been extensively investigated for genetic engineering. The pathogenesis-related (PR) genes, such as the bean chitinase gene (Chi) and tobacco β-1, 3-glucanase (Glu) gene, appears to be a preferred method for engineering fungal protection. In this research, a stable system of regeneration and genetic transformation of cucumber were established, and anti-fungal transgenie cucumber plantlets were obtained.
