Compared with physical and chemical parameters,the toxicity characteristics of wastewater attract little attention in dyeing wastewater *** the present study,comet assay with zebrafish were employed to analysis the genotoxicity of wastewater samples collected from different stages at a sewage treatment plant（STP） for dyeing ***,the effect of coexisting components used in dyeing process on toxicity response of dye was *** chroma and chemical oxygen demand（COD） decreased by 40%and 80%respectively after treating in *** contrast,the genotoxicity of the effluent was not significantly declined compared with that of the *** result suggested that the wastewater treatment processes were not effective in removing the genotoxicity of the dye *** an increase in genotoxicity was observed in the anaerobic tank,indicating the formation of toxic intermediates. DNA damage in the hepatocytes of zebrafish after exposure to Reactive Red 3BS alone increased significantly in a dose-dependent manner.2 mg/L of 3BS,which will not cause DNA damage in the hepatocytes of zebrafish,posed significant genotoxic stress combing different concentrations of coexistence components（NaSO,NPEOs,HO）.With the increase of coexistence components concentrations,DNA damage in the hepatocytes of zebrafish accentuated.

The effect of high CO2 concentration on microphytobenthos(MPB) production was examined to investigate the biological effect in short-term variability using newly developed oxygen microsensor and micropofiling *** experimental water bath was developed to design high CO2 *** experimental design focused on the detection of time-series concentrations of CO2 in benthic boundary layer at intervals of 10 *** MPB samples were collected from the muddy bottom of the intertidal flat,Daebu,West Sea,*** MPB samples were exposed to high CO2 concentrations of 2%,10%CO2-air balance,during production *** primary production was calculated from oxygen microprofile and pH was simultaneously measured during the exposure. During the exposure of high CO2 to samples,the oxygen concentration and pH showed time-dependant *** production increased in time series during the exposure of 2%CO2, implying a positive effect,but decreased for the 10%CO2 exposure samples that indicates a negative *** varying concentrations of CO2 are further exposed and tested to find out the turning point of positive or negative effects on MPB production and the corresponding results are discussed.

Among the ambient air pollutants,toxic air pollutants(TAPs),with potential to cause cancer or other adverse health effects,have received great *** US 1990 Clean Air Act identified 189 air pollutants as TAPs of which 187 are still included in the *** Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department(HKEPD) began routine measurement of TAPs at two air quality monitoring stations(Tsuen Wan and Central/Western) since *** paper will first introduce the Hong Kong TAP monitoring program,and then review the change concentration of various TAP species over the past *** addition,human exposure and health risks of TAPs in Hong Kong and related research perspectives will be further *** have also compared the health risks of TAPs in Hong Kong with other studies around the world,and we shall also summarize the similarity and differences between Hong Kong and the TAP situation in other *** a whole,the TAP database built by HKEPD is one of the most long-term and comprehensive TAP dataset in ***,it is extremely valuable for providing unique opportunities for studying human exposure and health impact of various TAP species in this rapidly developing region.

Phytoplankton and macrophytes are main primary producers in lakes and the most common effects of eutrophication in shallow lakes are an excessive increase in the productivity and biomass of algae or *** an ecological index on the eutrophication state assessment of lake ecosystem conceived in our study,the equivalent chlorophyll a content of phytoplankton and macrophytes（EC-a） is very necessary to analyze the potential trophic state of lake ecosystem in shallow *** results showed that there was no significant correlation between EC-a and trophic state indicators,and trophic state index（TSI） showed the strong correlations with trophic state indicators such as transparency,total phosphorus（TP）,total nitrogen（TN） and chemical oxygen demand(COD) in some shallow lakes of Jiangsu province,China,There was also no significant correlation between EC-a and TSI,which implied that the traditional definition of trophic state was based on only biomass of phytoplankton in the water column and biomass of macrophytes was ***,the index of EC-a is suited to characterize the potential trophic state of shallow lakes considering the potential impact of macrophytes.

Perfluoroalkyl acids(PFAs) are synthetic fluorinated organic compounds that can be released to the environment during manufacturing processes,from commercial products and applications,or indirectly via oxidation of precursor molecules containing perfluoroalkyl chains. While PFAs have received increased attention in monitoring programs,the assessment of the potential risks PFAs pose to aquatic organisms is still being *** PFA that has received much attention is perfluorooctane sulfonate(PFOS),a perfluoroalkyl *** part,this is due to its persistence in the environment and ability to accumulate into aquatic organisms and *** on available toxicity data and using USEPA's Great Lakes Initiative(GLI) procedures,screening water PFOS concentration values were calculated for aquatic organisms and *** screening plant value(SPV) protective of algae and macrophytes was calculated as 2.3 mg PFOS/L while a secondary chronic value(SCV) for aquatic organisms was 1.2μg PFOS/*** gaps in the toxicological database were identified and evaluated relative to the derived *** these values were compared to PFOS concentrations in surface waters and fish tissues collected from North America and other global locations,it was determined that current water concentrations of PFOS do not seem to be sufficient to pose a significant risk to most aquatic organisms,including fish.

To protect human health and environment in aquatic ecosystems,various governments and scientists have realized the necessity of building up a more scientific and effective water environmental quality standard system that is based on water quality criteria(WQC).WQC are used in environmental crisis management,pollution control,unexpected environmental incidents, evaluation of environmental effects and ecological *** now,though WQC have been built up for some chemicals,there are little systematic studies on WQC of pentachlorophenol (PCP) which is ubiquitous in the environment,especially in surface waters of *** this paper, the following contents were studied mainly:pH-dependent aquatic criteria for PCP in China, aquatic criteria for PCP based on resident aquatic biota in Tai lake,water effective ratio for PCP in Tai lake,WQC transformation to water quality standard(WQS),and suggested values of WQS for PCP in Tai *** believe that this study will be helpful to develop WQC and WQS for PCP in China.

On the basis of our previous study,we further investigated the effects of silver ion (Ag+ ) dissolved from silver nanoparticles(AgNps ) on gap junctional intercellular communication(GJIC ) in HaCaT cells.1mg/mL AgNps suspension were centrifuged at 4°C,20000g for 2h,then the supernatant was collected as Ag+ stock solution and measured by ICP-MS;GJIC was detected by the scrape loading/dye transfer assay;Cx43 protein and mRNA level were estimated by western-blot and RT-PCR,*** concentration of Ag+(0.01,0.1,1.0μg/mL) did not affect the GJIC *** notable changes were observed in expression of Cx43 protein and *** on the results of our previous study, this study indicate that characteristics of Ag+ on gap junctional intercellular communication between HaCaT cells may different from AgNps.

Pharmaceutical contamination in the environment is a global concern. Pharmaceuticals have been developed and used for treatment of diseases of humans and animals. However these chemicals may be discharged into environment and affect the non-target organisms and cause significant consequences in the *** studies on environmental pharmaceuticals have been actively carried out due to such *** this presentation,I outline backgrounds and trends of environmental pharmaceutical studies and introduce major research findings on ecological toxicity of pharmaceuticals with a focus on endocrine disruption and mixture *** pharmaceuticals appeared to be unlikely to cause direct impact on ecosystem receptors at the current levels of *** there are a few pharmaceuticals that demonstrated significant damage on sustainability of a vulnerable species. Due to this concern,several countries,for example,European Union and Switzerland,have established water quality standards or criteria for a few *** pharmaceuticals appear to be endocrine ***,tetracyclines,ibuprofen, mefemanic acid,and diclofenac are such *** compounds can influence steroidogenic pathway of fish and enhance estrogenicity of the *** effective concentrations are however orders of magnitude greater than those occurring in the aquatic *** of long term exposure to such compounds,especially in the context of endocrine disruption,are *** area of growing importance is mixture interaction of environmental *** pharmaceuticals may influence metabolism of other compounds and hence affect the *** e.g.,ketoconazole are suspected to inhibit several metabolic enzymes,such as *** many pharmaceuticals are known to be substrates of this enzyme,the toxicity of the substrate pharmaceuticals can be expected to increase when being exposed together wi

The soil environment management systems of Europe and China were introduced and the respective features of both systems were summarized in this paper. The main requirements for Chinese soil environment management were analyzed such as the lack of monitoring system and background information,less risk assessment and management,unitive soil quality standard unsuitable to various soil situations of China,and the lack of remediation standards,technology and its assessment,etc. Based on the study on the development history,decision making process,stakeholders involved,indicator concerned,assessment method and the implement mechanism of both systems,the comparison between the policies,laws and standards on soil environment management of Europe and China was carried out and some conclusions were drawn. The development tendency of Chinese soil environment management system in future was analyzed based on the situation of the soil pollution and the key fields of soil environment protection in the 12 five-year plan.A few suggestions were proposed to improve Chinese soil management system especially on soil environment protection standards.
