Objective To investigate the differences of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) expression and microvessel density(MVD) value in breast benign and malignant affection to clarify the association of VEGF expression with the occurrence and progression of breast cancer and *** Immunohistochemistry(SP-method) was used to examine the expression of VEGF and MVD value in 88 samples of invasive ductal carcinoma of breast,25 samples of breast carcinoma in situ,15 samples of breast atypical hyperplasia and 100 samples of breast benign affection,obtained during *** The positive rate of VEGF in breast carcer group was 70.45%,significently higher than those of breast benign affection,breast atypical hyperplasia and breast carcinoma in situ groups(22%,33.33%and 56%respectively,P=0.000).The positive rate of VEGF with lymph node metastasis was higher than that without lymph node metastasis(P=0.015). The positive rate of VEGF in stage IIb-III group was higher than that in stage I-IIa group(P= 0.006).A higher expression of VEGF was observed with the tissue differentiation degree increases(P=-0.017).The MVD value of breast cancer group was 23.16±14.65,signifieently higher than those of breast benign affection,breast atypical hyperplasia and breast carcinoma in situ groups(14.25±3.50,18.47±3.64 and 20.08±6.12 respectively, P=0.000).A significant higher MVD value was observed with the tissue differentiation degree increase in breast cancer group(P=0.006).The MVD value in VEGF positive group was higher than that in VEGF negative group (P=0.000).Conclusions The expression of VEGF and MVD value may be one of the reference predictors for the biological behavior of breast *** occurrence and progression of breast cancer might be related with the expression of VEGF.
