The biodiversity hotspot analyses are to locate geographical areas that rank particularly high on one or more axes of species richness, levels of endemism, number of rare species, and intensity of threat. The breeding ranges of 2,406 terrestrial bird species in East Asia (from 70°E to 180°E longitude) were mapped, which includes the eastern half of the Palearctic Region, the entire Oriental Region, and the entire Wallacea Subregion. The bird distribution ranges were transformed into a 100×100 km quadrat system and compared the spatial distribution of biodiversity hotspots selected by (1) total species richness, (2) limited-ranged species richness, (3) endangered species
