Harmful algal blooms (HABs) could be deemed hazardous materials in aquatic *** tamarense is a toxic HAB causing alga, which causes serious economic losses and health *** this study, the bacterium Deinococcus xianganensis Y35 produced a new algicide, showing a high algicidal effect on *** algicidal compound was identified as deinoxanthin, a red pigment, based on high resolution mass spectrometry and NMR after the active compound was isolated and *** exhibited an obvious inhibitory effect on algal growth, and showed algicidal activity against *** with an ECs0 of 5.636 μg/mL with 12 h treatment *** on the unique structure and characteristics of deinoxanthin, the content of reactive oxygen species (ROS) increased after 0.5 h exposure, the structure of organelles including chloroplasts and mitochondria were seriously *** these results firstly confirmed that deinoxanthin as the efficient and eeo-environmental algicidal compound has potential to be used for controlling harmful algal blooms through overproduction of ROS.

Biosynthesis of liquid fuels and biomass-based building block chemicals from microorganisms have regarded as a competitive alternative route to *** a candidate bio-ethanol producer, Zymomonas mobilis showed some advantages, e.g., higher specific rate of sugar uptake, high ethanol yield, lower biomass production, non-requirement of controlled addition of oxygen during fermentation, *** possesses a number of desirable characteristics for its special Entner-Doudoroff pathway, which makes it an ideal platform for both metabolic engineering and commercial-scale production of desirable bio-products as same as Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae based on consideration of future biomass biorefinery.

A Gram-stain-positive, aerobic or facultatively anaerobic, rod-shaped, non-motile, endospore-forming bacterium, strain A9T, was isolated in 1996 from a soil sample collected under a peach tree of Qingnian Park in Shenyang, China, and its taxonomic position was investigated using a polyphasic *** analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the strain belonged to the genus Paenibacillus, with a most closely sequence similarity of 96.7% and DNA-DNA relatedness of 51.6% to the type strain of Paenibacillus *** major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol and *** predominant menaquinone is MK-7 and the major cellular fatty acids were anteiso-C15∶0, C16∶0 and iso-C15∶*** DNA G+C content was 51.9 mol%.Based on these results, it is concluded that strain A9T represents a novel species of the genus Paenibacillus, for which the name Paenibacillus shenyangensis *** proposed, with A9T (=JCM 19307T =CGMCC 2040T) as the type strain.

Algicidal bacteria have been proved to be effective in controlling harmful algal blooms, but the action mechanism is still not well *** this study, the impact of a marine algicidal bacterium Bacillus ***-10 on the oxidative stress, transcriptional profiles and protein D 1 expression of Phaeocystis globosa were *** results indicated that strain LP-10 promoted a rapid increase in the ROS level of the algal cells, which finally led to the death of algal ***, many antioxidant activities were enhanced following treatment with strain *** transcriptional expression of two photosynthesis-related genes (psbA and rbcS) were observed to be significantly down regulated at high concentrations of strain LP-10, and the protein D1 content also decreased obviously at 24h.I11umination was found to be critical in algal cell *** results suggested that interruption of the Calvin cycle accelerated the rise in oxidative stress, which led to the photoinhibition of the algal cells, and this photoinhibition was the main reason for algal cell death.

A Gram-reaction-negative, seawater dependent, non-spore-forming, yellow, motile, rod-shaped strain, designated Ma-11T, was isolated fiom the culture broth of a Chlorophyta and subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic *** Ma-11T could grow at 20-45 ℃ and pH 8-9 in the presence of 0-3% (w/v) NaC1, and grew optimally at 3 7 ℃, pH 8.2, in natural seawater *** analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain Ma-11 T formed a distinct evolutionary lineage within Gammaproteobacteria and was most closely related to chemolithoautotrophic bacteria (Thioflavicoccus, Thioprofundum, Thiohalospira, Thiohalomonas, dlkalispirillum, Thioalkalivibrio, and so on.88.51-90.92% similarity), however, the growth of Ma-11T was not thiosulfate dependent.

A taxonomic study was carried out on strain 22Ⅱ-S11gT, which was isolated from the surface seawater of the Atlantic *** bacterium was Gram-negative, oxidase positive and catalase weakly positive, rod in shape without *** was observed at NaCl concentration of 0.5-9% and at temperatures of 10-41℃.The isolate was incapable of gelatine hydrolysis and unable to reduce nitrate to nitrite, degrade aesculin and Tween *** the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity, strain 22Ⅱ-S 11 gT was most closely related to Oceanicola batsensis HTCC2597T (97.26%), followed by Oceanicola nitratireducens JLT1210T (96.39%), other species of genus Oceanicola shared 94-96.34% sequence similarity.

Two aerobic, Gram-negative, rod-shaped, non-motile and non-spore-forming bacteria, strains NH6-24T and Za3-11, were respectively isolated from the offshore surface seawater of South China Sea (18°06′56' N, 110°45′38″ E, southeast of Hainan Island) and East China Sea (29°30′55″ N, 122°36′44″ E, south of the estuary of the Yangtze River).Growth of the two isolates occurred at 14-44 ℃ (optimun 37-40 ℃) and pH 6.0-8.5 (optimum pH 7.0-7.5).The tolerance ranges of sea salt were 0.5-10% (w/v) (optimum 1-2.5%) for strain NH6-24T and 0-12% (w/v) (optimum 0.5-4.5%) for strain *** strains could grow in the absence of NaCl.

An aerobic Gram-negative, slightly curved rod-shaped and non-motile bacterium, designated G5_TVMV8_7T, was isolated from the deep sea sediment sample of the North Atlantic *** G5_TVMV8_7T displayed growth at 4-45℃ (optimum, 25-35℃), at pH 6.0-11.0 (optimum, 7.0-8.0) and in 1.0-15.0% (w/v) Nal (optimum, 3.0-5.0%).Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain G5_TVMV8_7T belongs to the genus ldiomarina, sharing the highest similarity with *** ISL-52T (97.4%) and *** PO-M2T (97.1%) followed by other validly described species of the genus Idiomarina (96.9-93.5%).

A comparative analysis of the physiology, toxin composition, and ribosomal DNA sequences were performed on a suite of clonal cultures of the potentially toxic dinoflagellate Alexandrium *** were established from resting cysts or vegetative cells isolated from sediment or the water taken from the coasts of Greenland, Iceland, Chukchi Sea and Gulf of *** revealed that strains were indistinguishable, both toxin profiles and through the sequencings of the D l-D2 domain of the large *** species have been shown to be more toxic at low *** dcGTX2 was detected in all 12 isolates, toxin content significant variation was observed, range from 37.3 to 351.1 fmol/*** may indicate that the genetically determined toxin profiles in *** species are more complex than previously *** the isolates included in this study merged into the "North America" clade (Group 1).These findings showed that the resolving power of these sequences is not adequate to explain the morphological or physiological differences that exist among these strains.
