A novel methodology was developed for the determination of trace quantities of rare earth elements (REEs) in high purity ytterbium oxide by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (1CP-MS) in this *** mass spectra overlap interferences arose from Yb matrix on the neighbouring analytes of Tm(100) and Lu(97.4) were eliminated through adjusting instrumental peak resolution value from 0.7amu to *** matrix suppression effect of Yb on the ion peak signals of REEs impurities was compensated effectively with spiking In as internal standard *** limits of quantitation (LOQ) of REEs impurities were from 0.0093μgg to 0.022μgg,the recoveries for REEs spiked sample were found to be in the range of 91.2%~105% through using the proposed method and relative standard deviation (RSD) varied between 3.1% and 7.2%.The novel methodology had been found to be suitable for the determination of trace REEs impurities in 99.999%~99.9999% high purity YbO and the results obtained from this method keep in good agreement with that acquired from high resolution ICP-MS.

tn order to know the effect of substituting La with Nd on the electrochemical properties of the La-Mg--Ni system (AB-type) hydrogen storage alloy,the structural and electrochemical properties of the LaNdPrMgNiAl(x=0.05,0.1,0.15,0.2) hydrogen storage electrode alloys have been ***,SEM and EDS analyses have revealed that the alloys are composed of the (La, Mg)Ni phase and the LaNi phase as well as the (La,Mg)Ni phase.P-C isotherms curves show that there are two pressure plateaus with plateau pressures at about 0.03 and 0.2 MPa,*** plateau at higher pressure in P-C-I curve corresponds to the hydrogen absorption/desorption of LaNi phase,the pressure plateau at lower pressure should be due to AB *** hydrogen storage capacity increases to a maximum (1.3 wt.%) and then decreases with increasing *** electrochemical studies show that as x increases the maximum discharge capacity first increases from 343 mAh/g (x=0.05) to 385 mAh/g (x=0.10) and then decreases to 341 mAh/g (x=0.20).Moreover,the high-rate dischargeability (HRD) of the alloy electrodes are all rather high increasing from 56.9% (x =0.05) to 74.5% (x=0.10) and then decreasing to 61.5% (x=0.20) at the high discharge current density I=1800mA·g,The cycling life can be gradually improved with increasing Nd ***,the results of the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy,linear polarization,anode polarization,and hydrogen diffusion coefficient measurements all indicate that the exchange current density I,the limiting current density I and the hydrogen diffusion coefficient D of the alloy electrodes also all increase first and then decrease as x increases from 0.05 to 0.20 in alloys,which signifies that the electrochemical kinetics property of the LaNdPrMgNiAl(x= 0.05、0.1、0.15、0.2)hydrogen storage alloys has a most optimum La/Nd ratio.
