This paper presents a new strategy of using the radial integration boundary element method (RIBEM) to solve non-homogeneous heat conduction and thermoelasticity problems. In the method, the evaluation of the radial integral which is used to transform domain integrals to the boundary is carried out in accordance with elemental nodes. As a result, the computational time spent in evaluating domain integrals can be saved considerably in comparison with the conventional RIBEM. Three numerical examples are given to demonstrate the correctness and computational efficiency of the presented approach.

The numerical algorithm of hypersingular integral is always an important topic in recent years. According to the different definitions of singular integral, we would get the different numerical methods. In this work, we mainly discuss the numerical solution of hypersingular integrals on circle by using the Chebyshev wavelet. A quadrature formula is given by making use of the orthogonality of Chebyshev wavelet and the important formula in generalized function. Then we apply the method to solve the singular integrals with the Hilert kernel. The numerical examples show that the method is effective.

Dam-reservoir interaction is one of important factors to be considered in the evaluation of the seismic response of concrete dams. The Scaled Boundary Finite Element Method (Simply denoted as SBFEM) is one of effective approaches to simulate the hydrodynamic pressure on the dam surface when the dam are subjected to the earthquake excitation. In this paper, the SBFEM governing equations for hydrodynamic pressure on dam surface are reformulated based on the Hamiltonian dual system method. The key feature of the proposed method is that the derivation is approachable and straightforward in the framework of Dual system method. Both the governing equations on field variables and auxiliary variables can be obtained directly.

Emphasis in the paper is placed on the treatment of discontinuous concentrated forces applied in the two-dimensional elastic solids by special elements constructed in the context of hybrid finite element method, in which two independent fields are respectively assumed inside the element or along the element boundary. According to the physical definitions of fundamental solutions, the element interior homogeneous and particular displacement and stress solutions are separately approximated by the combination of fundamental solutions to give true representation of local effect caused by point loads, while the element boundary displacement solutions are approximated by the conventional shape functions. The stationary condition of the hybrid functional produces the relationship of these two fields and the element stiffness equation. The advantage of special elements established is that a large element independent of location of discontinuous point loads can be used to avoid the requirement of mesh refinement in the vicinity of the area with local concentrated loads. Finally, numerical experiment is carried out to verify the present special elements and investigate the effectiveness of them in aspect of mesh reduction.

This paper develops an Element-free Galerkin scaled boundary method (EFG-SBM) for solving steady-state heat transfer problems. The SBM weakens the governing differential equations along the circumferential coordinate direction and solves analytically in the radial direction. Different with conventional scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM), an EFG approach is used in the circumferential direction. The proposed method is verified via numerical examples including the problems with thermal singularity and unbounded domain, and satisfactory results are obtained in comparison with analytical and SBFEM solutions.

Because in all the fast algorithms some further approximation has been adopted, whether the valuable characteristics of the BEM high accuracy can be preserved, attracts much attention. As an example the 2D elasticity problem using fast BEM with ACA and GMRES has been investigated. The test examples include four groups: 1) A square sheet under uniaxial tension, and discretized into up to 20000 DOF;2) A square sheet with 5 5 circular holes under biaxial uniform tension;3) A square sheet with 100 randomly distributed circular holes under uniaxial uniform tension;4) A square sheet with a fixed edge under tension. It is found that the accuracy and efficiency are related not only to the BEM model, but also to the factors in the fast algorithm, including the tolerance of ACA and GMRES, the leaf-scale and structure of the cluster tree, and the initial solution of the GMRES. On the other hand, the accuracy is problem-related. For the fast multipole BEM the similar problems should also be investigated in future.

That the drainage will bring about influence is harmful for engineering property of pile. However, the drainage is not taken into account in the investigation of dynamic behavior of pile in the saturated soil so far. In this paper, Using Green's function of the solid and fluid phases for a two-phase saturated medium in the axisymmetric coordinates, applying Lamb's integral equation with drainage, associating with the continuous conditions and the boundary conditions of pile-soil interaction, the authors via BEM to obtain solutions of the dynamic displacement and the pore pressure for a single pile with drainage in the saturated soil, as well as the flux of drainage. Some figures of the dynamic parameters under drained or/and undrained for dimensionless frequency are plotted respectively. That these results accord with correspond reality justifies that BEM is an effective numerical method used to solve the issue of pile.

Spline fictitious boundary element method (SFBEM) is a modified indirect boundary element method (IBEM) with several unique advantages. Recent years this method has been introduced into uncertainty analysis and several improvements are obtained. With the derivation of two sets of governing differential equations with respect to the means and deviations of responses by including the first order terms of deviations, deterministic fundamental solutions can be utilized in SFBEM for solving stochastic problems with the parameters modeled with random fields. SFBEM can also be used in the reliability analysis with the parameters modeled with random variables in conjunction with the advanced first-order-second-moment (AFOSM) method or Monte-Carlo method. The implementations of these methods are introduced for the stochastic and reliability analysis of plane elasticity problems in this paper.

As a truly boundary-type meshless method, the Hybrid Boundary Node method (HdBNM) does not require a 'boundary element mesh', either for the purpose of interpolation of the solution variables or for the integration of 'energy'. In this paper, a new coupled HdBNM and finite element method (FEM) is developed for analysis of reinforced concrete. Elasticity equations are solved in an elastic domain containing inclusions, which can be assumed as a body force. A bond model is presented to simulate the bond-slip between the concrete and steel bar using fictitious spring elements. The coupled HdBNM/FEM can further reduce the computational scale, especially for meshing in FEM. The technique is implemented in a computer code written in C++. Numerical examples demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed approach for reinforced concrete.

This work contains two parts, i.e. (1) the subdomain boundary element method (DBEM) and the Gurtin-Murdoch interface constitutive relation are used to investigate three dimensional (3D) nano-inhomogeneities;(2) under the condition of the same Poisson's ratio for the inhomogeneities and matrix, an integral equation formulation only containing the interface displacements, i.e. no interface tractions, is proposed to carry out the stress analysis of 3D nano-inhomogeneities. The proposed integral equation formulation (called as SBEM) can simply be implemented in the analysis of 3D nano-inhomogeneities compared to the DBEM. This paper presents the component form of 3D Gurtin-Murdoch interface constitutive relation which can easily be used in the numerical implementation. Nine-node quadrilateral elements are adopted to discretize the interfaces among the matrix and nano-inhomogeneities. The results from two kinds of methods, i.e. DBEM and SBEM, are in good agreement with each other.
