It was reported that drug addiction and learning and memory share the common mechanisms in the levels of neurocircuits, neuronal activities, synapse, and intracellular signaling *** role of NMDA receptors, especially the receptors containing NR2B subunit,in morphine-induced conditioned place preference(CPP)and Morris water maze(MWM)was in- vestigated in the present *** was used as a paradigm to assess the rewarding effect of mor- phine, and MWM was used to measure the ability and capacity of spatial learning and memory in male SD *** found that ifenprodil(1,3,10 mg·kg,ip),an antagonist highly selective for NR2B containing N-methyl-D-aspartate(NMDA)receptors,blocked the development,consoli- dation as well as the reinstatement of morphine-induced CPP,without evident impairment on the acquisition and retrieval of spatial memory in MWM tests, although the consolidation of spatial mem- ory was disrupted by ifenprodil at the dose of 10 mg·*** results clearly indicate that(1) An active involvement of the NR2B-containing NMDA receptors was indicated in addiction memory induced by morphine conditioning;(2)The NR2B-containing NMDA receptors were not likely in- volved in the acquisition and retrieval of spatial learning and memory;and(3)The NR2B containing NMDA receptors may be considered as a potential target for the treatment of opiate addiction.
