This field research on Dongmoushan area in Dunhua and Xigucheng area in Helong,which are two former capital regions in the early Bohai period (698-756),focuses on exploring locational characteristics and spatial relationship among the scattered relics in the study *** order to identify locational characteristics of the capital regions,such elements as physical landscape,climate condition,land use,and transportation routes are ***,located at the altitude of 150-200 meters higher than Helong,tends to be disadvantaged in terms of climate and agricultural *** the same time,in the respect of the total arable land developed along fluvial plain of the Helong river,the Helong maintains favour location for agricultural potentiality,comparing with Dunhua location where volcanic lava filled in the most low land area along Mudan *** is partially guessed that the primary geographical conditions influenced to move from the first capital in Dongmoushan to *** on observation of the relic distributions,it seems that two capitals have never been formally arranged by the ancient urban *** spatial distribution of Dongmoushan fortress,Aodongcheng Wall,Yongsheng site,and Liudingshan mounds suggests that the structure of early capital was formulated by favourable physical location for defence,affluent arable land along the river,and convenient transportation route rather than by a formal layout *** case of Xigucheng in Helong,which was the second capital,reflects that the capital wall in river plain has been constructed by *** the planning has not been *** geographical characteristics such as physically favour location for defence,severe winter climate,agricultural potentiality,and transport route,seem to have partially influenced the location of the capitals in the early Bohai period.

This study exams the metamorphosis of government policy and stands on the issue of Vietnamese asylum seekers in Hong Kong between 1975 and *** colonial government at first adopted a primarily reactive and accommodating position in its policy toward the continual influxes of Vietnamese boat people,but there was a gradual shift from reactive measures to more deliberate control and strict practices over *** this study,the reasons for this change are analyzed from a geopolitical viewpoint,to see how the international politics,regional location and public interests influenced on the government policy towards the Vietnamese asylum seekers in Hong *** three decades,over 213,000 Vietnamese landed in Hong Kong seeking for temporary *** marked a turning point in the Hong Kong’s history of *** government implemented several policies to stem the influxes at different period of *** its declaration of being the port of first asylum in 1979,all asylum seekers landed in its territory were automatically granted temporary *** liberal policy and its geographical location attracted more boat people to come and Hong Kong soon became a main destination for seeking asylum in the Southeast Asia.A series of deterrence measures,namely the closed camp policy and the screening,were accordingly carried *** screened-outs were recognized as non-refugees that ineligible for resettlement in third countries and need to be *** non-refugees had to be returned to Vietnam until the handover of sovereignty in *** were several reasons contributed to the changes of characteristic of refugee policies practiced in Hong *** the influx of Vietnamese boot people was decreasing in the late 1980s,the Western countries,such as the United States,withdrew their promises to resettle the refugees who landed up on Asia *** international politics primarily reflected the government’s reactive measures against the boat ***,the fina

Under the background of humanism and post-modernism,studies on urban space have shifted their perspectives from physical to social and behavioral *** need to enrich our understanding of urbanization and spatial changes restructuring from the new perspectives such as urban activity-travel system and human daily *** from the creative works of Hagerstrand and Chapin et al.,activity-based approach has made substantial contributions to understand human space-time behavior *** research talks about a new framework to investigate interactions between urban space and residents’ *** study area for this research is Beijing city,which has experienced the rapid urban land growth.A two-day diary data set collected in the study area in 2007 provides the individual activity-travel data for this study,consisting of 1119 *** dimensional geo-visualization of individual space-time path is realized in GIS environment for helping us analyze typical activity *** this research,we begin to understand individual travel behavior choices,especially the generation of multi-stops trip chains,and the relationship of these choices with socio-economic characteristics as well as spatial characteristics of the places where to *** results of preliminary models estimated indicate that multi-stops travel behavior is indeed related to individual’s residential *** Poisson Regression is implemented on the number of trip chains do indicate that socio-economic factors and spatial factors make coupling effects on whether to choose multi-stops travel,especially for the full-time employed group in *** models should provide a starting point for further exploration of urban space and space-time structure of human daily activities linkages explored from the point of view from analyzing the trip chain as a whole subject.

In this paper,the growth of “call center industry” such as customer services and back office operations in Okinawa,Japan,will be traced for considering the service activities that are made possible by using *** “call centers industry” is regarded as a strategic industry for job creation in the remote region by Japan's local and central *** “call center industry” in Okinawa,Japan's southern and westernmost region,was first promoted when Okinawa prefectural government launched a plan called “Strategic Plan for Multimedia Island” in 1998 leading to many relative *** industry was also encouraged by Japanese Government under “the Third Development Plan for Okinawa” (fiscal year 1992-2001) which promotes the localization of ICT related service industry in the ***,“the Forth Development Plan for Okinawa” (fiscal year 2002-2011) which aims to promote private-led economy and attract business firms from metropolitan regions also puts an emphasis on the ICT related service *** these plans collaborating among local and central government,a large number of service firms,of which headquarters locate in metropolitan region,mostly Tokyo,set up their branch operations in Okinawa Island since the latter half of *** of 2008,more than 40 companies and 60 operating offices are established there,employing more than10,000 *** has been pointed out that the growth of the industry in Okinawa,where the unemployment rate is highest in Japan,owed to its low wage and potential to provide workforce within the region,and most important,strong financial and non-financial support from the *** general,more than half of employees in call centers are female and work temporarily under *** centers in Okinawa provide routine services,such as customer and technical support,marketing,and data entry under the mandate from headquarters or outsourced clients companies ***,among call centers,there is a call cent

Studies on the relationship between cities in a region are carried out from two perspectives: verifying the agglomeration or interaction of cities of different sizes,and identifying central cities and their influence *** they both have *** former is only used for descriptive analysis without considering the relationship among cities,while the latter is restricted by the preciseness of *** the spatial autocorrelation analysis,this paper combines the two methods to investigate the regional and local influence of cities of different sizes from the influenced rather than influencing perspective,which also indicates the agglomeration and dispersion of different sized *** empirical study on China’s 637 cities with urban land sizes proves the integrated approach feasible and *** the effect of scales on interaction among cities and the hierarchy of urban service functions,we analyze the issue on regional and local scales with the inverse distance and inverse distance squared as the spatial weight *** the own size of investigated cities,as long as most cities are surrounded by large cities,in other words association types of city sizes are mainly HH or LH,it indicates that large cities with powerful regional or local influence are dominant in the ***,the radiation effect of central cities is limited and agglomeration of small cities is the typical characteristic of regional urban *** with the most significant regional influence agglomerate in the Yangtze River Delta,the Pearl River Delta and the Beijing-Tianjin metropolitan *** the five metropolitan areas in Eastern China,super-cities are dominant in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and the Pearl River Delta without the following development of small and medium cities;the Yangtze River Delta and Central-Southern Liaoning are characterized by the collaborative development of different sized cities led by super-cities;cities in Shand

In Chinese cities the large-scale property-led neighbourhood renewal projects have demolished and reconstructed the homes of millions of urban ***,these projects were usually occurred in some specific “profitable” areas only,and left most real dilapidated neighbourhoods with high concentration of poor *** the 2000,in some cities like Beijing,the local governments proposed a series of (experimental) public-led projects to renew the rest of the declined neighbourhoods and improve the living conditions of local *** flagship projects have been completed in a very short ***,real effects of these recent projects were never assessed *** were also not experienced in analysing the efforts in a scientific *** in this paper the evaluation framework based on European countries are imported to fill this academic *** most European developed countries like Britain,neighbourhood renewal projects have been widely regarded as the response to the multi-dimensional declines of the target *** declines should involve the interacting problems across economic,social,environmental and other *** this research a household survey on the domains of “housing and physical,employment,education,healthcare,other social services,safety,and community cohesion”,was completed in Jinyuchi located in the Beijing *** primary data were collected in winter 2007 through structured face to face interviews to nearly 2000 residents in this *** research concludes that the positive effects of the renewal projects are really limited,only concentrated in the improvement of physical conditions;while in most economic and social issues the local promotion is really very slightly or even going *** all,most of real local needs were missed at all despite some residents gained benefits in some *** in future,besides the physical decline,the problems in the economic,social and other aspects

Years and regions that regime shift of winter temperature occurred in late 1980s are ***/NCAR reanalysis winter mean temperature is used for the *** of five/ten year mean winter temperature between two periods,before and after a given year are *** of Lepage test are also calculated for the same *** and regions in which regime shift occurred are specified by using these *** a result,regions where regime shift of winter temperature occurred are detected in 1987,1988,and *** 1989 of these three years,regime shift appeared simultaneously in East Asia mainly above 40 degrees north (East Asia North) and in North Europe where the north coast of Scandinavian Peninsula is the center (North Euro East).On the other hand,regime shift in 1987 is detected in East Asia mainly below 40 degrees north (East Asia South),and that in 1988 is recognized in North Europe where the tip of Scandinavian Peninsula is the center (North Euro West).In each of four regions,decadal mean winter temperatures after regime shift are relatively higher than that before regime *** of decadal mean winter temperature between before and after regime shift is 1.09 degrees C in East Asia North,1.37 degrees C in East Asia South,2.07 degrees C in North Europe East,and 2.14 degrees C in North Europe ***,relations between these regime shifts and changes of atmospheric circulation patterns are *** oscillation (AO),one of atmospheric circulation patterns,has changed in 1989 from a state which negative phase is dominant to a state positive phase is *** regions where regime shift is detected in 1989 are involved in major fluctuant area of *** addition,correlation coefficient between AO index and winter temperature of these two regions is significant (r=0.44 in East Asia North,r=0.68 in North Europe East).Furthermore,five-day mean AO index corresponds to five-day mean temperature of these two ***,it see

There are so many mountains in South Korea and different mountain systems can be found in diverse *** general,drainage basin has been used as the unit of a regional *** mountains have been considered as the boundary of that region or as one of the geological items based on the mountain *** shown in defining the boundaries of national reserves,national parks,provincial parks etc.,however,the mountains have been used as the unit of their ***,it is considered that mountains can be also used as the unit of ecological or geographical *** study classified South Korea's mountains based on the mountain ordering using 1:250,000 digital topographic maps and analyzed the relationships between mountain orders and geomorphometric variables such as mountain number,relative altitude,relief,slope,roundness of boundary,*** order was defined in terms of closed contour lines(100m interval) on the digital topographic maps.A set of closed,concentric contour lines defines a first-order mountain and that have only one closed contour line for each *** the boundaries of classified mountains are defined on the contour lines,the classified lines are very distinct and the classification system is possible to apply to the any kinds of topographic maps with contour *** idea of mountain ordering has been derived from the stream ordering of Strahler by Yamada Shuji(1999).In order to conform the suitability of 1:250,000 digital map for this kind analysis,a pilot test was conducted for two small islands(Namhae: 301 ?,Geoje: 378 ?).The ratio between mountain orders and mountain number from 1:250,000 maps was so similar to that from 1:25,000 digital ***-order mountains are the highest order mountains in South Korea,which include Youngnam Alps,Jiri-Deukyu Mountains,and Taebaek-Seulak Mountains.10 independent forth-order mountains which are not included in fifth-order mountains are identified and 80 independent

Japanese people witnessed a drastic change of government in *** Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) won the great victory at a General Election held in *** secured 308 seats by itself and 322 seats including coalition parties' seats among total 480 *** a result,the government changed from the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) to the DPJ after the election.A unique electoral system,called 'Chusenkyokusei',which combines three to five member constituencies with the single vote plurality system has been in use from 1925 to 1993 in *** this system,since the year 1955 when the LDP and the former Japan Socialist Party (JSP) were established respectively by mergers,Japan has experienced a relative stable political system called 'the post-1955 political system'.In this period,the relationship between voters and parties were also *** in rural areas have been giving their supports to the LDP and the LDP handed out political favors to rural areas while people in urban areas gave their supports to the JSP and other left *** new system which consists of a mixed system of 300 seats for single member constituencies and 200 seats to be decided by proportional representation,was established in 1994,when the LDP went out of power *** then,realignments of political parties progressed gradually and voters' supports to parties also *** LDP won the last general election in 2005 and could extend supports to urban area by the former Prime Minister Koizumi's successful election campaigns and ***,the LDP lost an election of the House of Councillors in 2007 and a general election in this *** this way,fixed relationships between voters and parties in the post-1955 political system were slowly weakened after the new system was brought in.I speak a geography of the general election in this year and characteristics of changes of relationship of voters' supports for *** LDP has gradually lost its supports from peopl
