Optimal revenue of oil and gas fields is of interest due to high price and limited amount of these sources of energy. In this way, smart well technology provides a numerous range of benefits and for these great advantageous is widely used in oil/gas industry. this technology involves down-hole measurement and control of well bore and reservoir flow. One of the most important down-hole control subsystems in a smart well is pressure and temperature sensing system which can help the reservoir being modeled accurately. the purpose of this paper is to design and analysis a new sensory package for a desired oil well. A brief review of the advantages of fiber optic sensing technology in smart well control system is performed. Having studied several possibilities of installation systems for sensors, a new arrangement and casing for temperature/pressure sensor is developed here. Effect of pressure and temperature on stress distribution in the casing has been investigated and a suitable casing is obtained.

WORKSPACE OPTIMIZATION OF A SIX DEGREES OF FREEDOM PARALLEL MANIPULATOR FOR MICROMACHINING

this work addresses the optimization of the workspace of a six degrees of freedom parallel manipulator. In this study, the topology of the manipulator is composed of three xy-ables, symmetrically positioned on a circle on a base plane, connected by three legs to a moving platform. Kinematic composition of the manipulator is introduced and kinematic diagram is illustrated. Orientation workspace is investigated using three different orientation representations. XYZ fixed angles representation is selected considering the benefits of its visualization are considered. By using this representation, the orientation workspace is modeled and kinematic circuits of the manipulator are explored. First, optimization is performed without slider limitations. A result table is obtained based on the user defined parameters. Secondly, optimization is performed under slider limitations. the maximal orientation capability is optimized using numerical analysis. the optimized configuration of the manipulator indicates that a 330% increase in orientation capability is achieved, compared to the old configuration.

Effects of Inlet Geometry on the Pressure Drop and Collection Efficiency of Tangential Inlet Cyclones

this work presents a computational fluid dynamics simulation to investigate the effects of inlet geometry on the pressure drop and particle collection efficiency of a tangential inlet cyclone. three-dimensional, steady governing equations for the incompressible, turbulent flow inside a tangential inlet cyclone are solved numerically under certain boundary conditions. the continuous gas flow is predicted by solving Navier-Stokes equations using the differential RSM turbulence model. the second phase is modeled based on a Lagrangian approach. the commercial CFD code Fluent was used for numerical analysis. Computational results compared experimental data available in the literature for validation. Various cyclones, each has different geometrical ratio of inlet section, studied in this paper Detail analyses of the effects of inlet geometry on the flow behavior, pressure drop and collection efficiency were given.

Today, it is imperative that armored vehicles need advanced protection kits against anti-symmetric threats more than before. the primary goal of this study was to assess benefits of explicit hydrocodes for mine protection resistance of armored vehicles. An analysis of an armored vehicle under blast loading caused by high explosive (HE) detonation is presented with comparison to a full-scale test. the problem was examined using LS-DYNA which is an explicit non-linear finite element code. Multi Material Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (MM-ALE) Fluid Structure Interaction Method was selected to model the explosion domain so as to observe advancing of the shock wave in the compressed air and to investigate the effects of blast on the vehicle structure after explosion. Johnson-Cook constitutive material model, Jones-Wilkins-Lee (JWL) and Linear Polynomial equation of states were used for the problem. Results show that numerical analysis was in good agreement with the experimental result.

An integrated controller of active front steering and direct yaw moment is developed in this paper. In upper layer, the corrective steering angle and yaw moment are obtained using sliding mode control. A combined sliding surface is defined in order that the yaw rate and side slip angle of vehicle track the desired values. the corrective yaw moments are applied by electrical motors embedded in rear wheels. the desired value for yaw rate and sideslip angle are obtained from a 4-DOF nonlinear vehicle model. In the lower layer, the active steering, wheel slip and electrical motor torque controllers are designed. Wheel slip and motors torque controllers generate the longitudinal forces in the rear wheels to produce the desired yaw moment. A nonlinear nine degrees of freedom vehicle model is used for simulation purposes. the simulation results illustrate considerable improvements in vehicle handling.

this paper describes a study of three-dimensional free vibration analysis of thick circular and annular functionally graded (FG) plates resting on Pasternak foundation. the formulation is based on the linear, small strain and exact elasticity theory. Plates with different boundary conditions are considered and the material properties of the FG plate are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness according to power law. the kinematic and the potential energy of the plate-foundation system are formulated and the polynomial-Ritz method is used to solve the eigenvalue problem. Convergence and comparison studies are done to demonstrate the correctness and accuracy of the present method. With respect to geometric parameters, elastic coefficients of foundation and different boundary conditions some new results are reported which maybe used as a benchmark solution for future researches.

the indoor environmental monitoring of industrial production sites is becoming increasingly important in an attempt to comply with current regulations inhering working conditions and production standards. Although monitoring tasks often consist of repetitive, time-consuming, and sometimes dangerous actions, they are mostly carried out by a human operator, who is responsible for carrying the sensor set around the working area and for enabling the communication with a remote processing system. the aim of the paper is to present the architecture of an integrated autonomous system for three-dimensional mapping of environmental conditions in indoor spaces. the proposed system integrates one (or more) autonomous guided vehicles, carrying the sensor set around the working area, a distributed wireless sensor network, providing a real-time tracking of the mobile agent, and a remote processing unit to store and elaborate the measured data. A prototype implementation of the system is herein described, in order to demonstrate the overall system feasibility.

LOOK-AHEAD NURBS-PH INTERPOLATION FOR HIGH SPEED CNC MACHINING

Various methods for parametric interpolation of NURBS curves have been proposed in the past. However, the errors caused by the approximate nature of the NURBS interpolator were rarely taken into account. this paper proposes an integrated look-ahead algorithm for parametric interpolation along NURBS curves. the algorithm interpolates the sharp corners on the curve with the Pythagorean-hodograph (PH) interpolation. this will minimize the geometric and interpolator approximation errors simultaneously. the algorithm consists of four different modules: a sharp corner detection module, a PH construction module, a jerk-limited module, and a dynamics module. Simulations are performed to show correctness of the proposed algorithm. Experiments on an X-Y table confirm that the developed method improves tracking and contour accuracies significantly when compared to previously proposed adaptive-feedrate and curvature-feedrate algorithms.

Robotic modules with especial abilities may provide new opportunities in developing robotic systems. Changing the robot framework in different missions may be implemented in the modular robotic system design. Shape memory alloys (SMA) may be considered as suitable actuators with unique features. Due to the complex behavior of the SMAs less works are done on the precise modeling and positioning systems of them. Spring type SMA actuators, which are less considered in the literature, produce more deflections. In this paper a novel module with two DOFs is developed. SMA springs are employed as actuators in an embedded package including a mechanism, an electronic hardware, and a sensory system. Modeling of the spring type SMA is discussed in details using Liang and Brinson models. Simulation results are verified using an experimental setup indicating the applicability of the model in predicting the dynamic behavior of the module.
