I/O is becoming one of major performance bottlenecks in NAND-flash-based mobile devices. Novel nonvolatile memories (NVMs), such as phase change memory and spin-transfer torque random access memory, can provide fast read/write operations. In this paper, we propose a unified NVM/flash architecture to improve the I/O performance. A transparent scheme, virtualized flash (vFlash), is also proposed to manage the unified architecture. Within vFlash, interapp and intra-app techniques are proposed to optimize the application performance by exploiting the historical locality and I/O access patterns of applications. Since vFlash is on the bottom of the I/O stack, the application features will be lost. therefore, we also propose a cross-layer technique to transfer the application information from the application layer to the vFlash layer. the proposed scheme is evaluated based on an Android platform, and the experimental results show that the proposed scheme can effectively improve the I/O performance of mobile devices. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

Software-intensive systems are often independently developed, operated, managed, and evolved. Progressively, communication networks enabled these independent systems to interact, yielding a new kind of complex system, i.e. a system that is itself composed of systems, the so-called System-of-systems (SoS). By its very nature, SoS is evolutionarily developed and exhibits emergent behavior. Actually, software architecture research has mainly focused on single systems, mostly large or very large distributed systems whose software architecture is described as design-time configurations of components linked together through connectors. However, it is well known that the restricted characteristics of single (even very large distributed) systems lead to architectural solutions (in terms of theories, languages, tools, and methods) that do not scale up to the case of systems-of-systems. Indeed, novel architectural solutions are needed to handle the complexity of software-intensive systems-of-systems in particular regarding the software architecture challenges implied by evolutionary development and emergent behavior. this paper presents the challenges facing software architecture research to address software-intensive systems-of-systems. It analyzes the discriminating characteristics of system-of-systems when compared with single systems from the software architecture perspective and focuses on recent advances in software architecture research to formally describe the architecture of software-intensive systems-of-systems.

Detection of unknown malware with high accuracy is always a challenging task. therefore, in this paper we study the classification of unknown malware by two methods. In the first/regular method, similar to other authors (Mehdi et al. Proceedings of the 11th Annual conference on Genetic and evolutionary computation 2009, Moskovitch et al. Intelligence and Security Informatics 2008, Ravi and Manoharan Int J Comput Appl 43(17): 12-16 2012) approaches we select the features by taking all dataset in one group and in second method, we select the features by partitioning the dataset in the range of file 5 KB size. We find that the second method detect the malwares with similar to 8.7 % more accurate than the first/regular method.

the PLM process is developing methodologies to support sustainable production during the whole product lifecycle. the present research makes a focus on the capability to adapt a RFLP framework, integrated in the 3DExperience platform and linked to the Mechatronics disciplines, to the Multi-Views systems Methodology. this work demonstrates the adaptability of a RFLP framework to a systems Engineering Methodologies, while taking profit of PLM values for industrial systems production, like an aircraft Radar System. this combination of architecture design and PLM integration increase drastically collaboration increasing the likelihood of detecting product failures early on during its lifecycle validating a virtual product with the customer before detailed design and manufacturing, yielding significant cuts in time-to-market and rework and allowing architects to take the best decision based on global system definition and performance, taking in consideration the disciplines feedbacks Engineering design may be viewed as a decision making process that supports design tradeoffs. the designer makes decisions based on information available and engineering judgment and determines the direction in which the design must proceed. the procedures that need to be adopted, and develops a strategy to perform successive decisions. this interaction shall take in consideration customer feedback. Current Radar Use Case demonstrates the implementation of a Multi-Views methodology, allowing Concurrent Engineering and Integrated Product and Process Development (IPPD) to be performed in parallel and collaboratively. the implementation based on the RFLP framework is extremely helpful to manage complex system design information providing a native traceability and impact analysis capability from the requirements to the operational, functional and component layers of the system, reducing the gap in information. there are four major components in application systems with internet-of-things (IoT): sensors, communications, computation and service, where large amount of data are acquired for ultra-big data analysis to discover the context information and knowledge behind signals. To support such large-scale data size and computation tasks, it is not feasible to employ centralized solutions on cloud servers. thanks for the advances of silicon technology, the cost of computation become lower, and it is possible to distribute computation on every node in IoT. In this paper, we take video sensing network as an example to show the idea of distributed computing in IoT. Existing related works are reviewed and the architecture of a system-on-a-chip solution for distributed smart cameras is proposed with coarse-grained reconfigurable image stream processing architecture. It can accelerate various computer vision algorithms for distributed smart cameras in IoT.

Functional vehicle detection and signal system communication are essential for a traffic signal system to execute its intended coordinated signal timing plans. the degradations of vehicle detection and signal system communication could impose barriers to successful operations of a traffic signal system. To achieve and maintain an acceptable operational level set by a traffic agency, an agency has to prioritize its resource allocation. this paper first introduces the concept of traffic signal system performance. It defines a traffic signal system degradation index which measures the proportion of increased travel time attributable to failures in detection and communication components with respect to the total observed travel time of a traffic signal control section. the paper uses the degradation index and traffic simulation to evaluate the effectiveness of major strategies to improve vehicle detection and signal system communication. these strategies include upgrading detection technologies, improving the responsiveness to detection and communication repair work, providing adequate training, increasing the frequency of inspection, and installing a GPS clock to maintain synchronization of the time clock in the controller. Finally, recommendations for optimal allocation of operation and maintenance resource allocation strategies for traffic signal systems are provided. © 2014 American Society of Civil Engineers.

Software requirements are changed by various factors. Stakeholders that are analysed in traditional require- ments engineering are mainly requesters or decision makers with regard to the requirements specications. Such stakeholders are selected as intentional actors in the i* framework. the novel point of this paper is that we focus on the world of parties who are the environmental factors of the requirements of the in- tentional actors. Our purpose is to propose a method to predict requirements changes by focusing on the so- cial relations. Cyber-Physical systems (CPS) have the promise of presenting the next evolution in computing with potential applications that include aerospace, transportation, and various automation systems. these applications motivate advances in the different sub-fields of CPS such as mobile computing, context awareness, and computer vision. However, deploying and testing complete CPSs is known to be a complex and expensive task. In this paper, we present the design, implementation, and evaluation of Up and Away (UnA): a testbed for Cyber-Physical systems that use Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) as their main physical component. UnA aims to abstract the control of physical system components to reduce the complexity of UAV oriented CPS experiments. UnA provides APIs to allow for converting CPS algorithm implementations, developed typically for simulations, into physical experiments using a few simple steps. We present two scenarios of using UnA's API to bring mobile-camera-based surveillance algorithms to life, thus exhibiting the ease of use and flexibility of UnA.
