this paper presents an extensible multi-platform educational game framework. this new framework enhances the point-and-click adventure game model used in a preexisting educational game framework (eAdventure) by extending it with new game metaphors and interactions. these include mini-games (e.g. puzzles, stories, word-games) suited for a greater variety of subjects (e.g. math, history, science) that are configured through a plug-in architecture. Targeting multiple platforms allows for the transparent deployment and use of the developed games in new mobile devices (e.g. tablets) and other systems of growing interest in the educational community. Unifying these aspects into one platform is a challenging task because it must implement the appropriate balance between expressivity, game production costs and possibilities to re-use successful educational game models. the basic adventure metaphor is used as a backbone to provide a strong narrative to drive games and engage the students. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

the future of the education system will restructure through information communication technology (ICT), which is a comprehensive approach to innovate education systems, methods, and management. the new paradigm of ICT in educations is smart services, which enhances the education efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity. the education smart services in thailand, called NEdNet (National Education Network), are integrated systems including network infrastructure services, education information services (EIS), and Learning services, which facilitator of higher-order thinking skills, support learner-centered, self-directed learning, tailored learning and decision supporting. the first part of NEdNet is network infrastructure systems. Ministry of Education proposed National Education Network (NEdNet) project to develop national education network and provide enough bandwidth for all levels of education. NEdNet is the integration of UniNet Network [6] for higher education, MOENet for schools and VECNet for vocational institutes. NEdNet supports usage of the entire education system with the following bandwidth 1) 293 university connected by dark fiber, which will have bandwidth 1-10 Gbps, 2) 415 vocational institutions, which will have bandwidth 100-1,000 Mbps, and finally 3,000 schools, which will have bandwidth 10-100 Mbps. NEdNet also investigates the coming technology such as 3G, WiMax and FTTx for last mile access networks. NEdNet provides either community internet or research education network (REN), which connected to Internet2 in USA., JGN2 in Japan, TEIN (Trans Eurasia Information Network) and APAN (asia pacific Advanced Network). the second part of the NEdNet is education information services (EIS) using Service Oriented architecture (SOA) infrastructure, which provides information for management and executives in three levels. the first level is national level, which establishes a comprehensive e-government project using th e-Gif (thailand e-Government Interope

Very large scale integrated circuits typically employ Network-on-Chip (NoC) as the backbone for on-chip communication. As technology advances into the nanometer regime, NoCs become more and more susceptible to permanent faults such as manufacturing defects, device wear-out, which hinder the correct operations of the entire system. therefore, effective fault-tolerant techniques are essential to improve the reliability of NoCs. Prior work mainly focuses on introducing redundancies, which can't achieve satisfactory reliability and also involve large hardware overhead, especially for data path components. In this paper, we propose fine-grained data path salvaging techniques by splitting data path components, i.e., links, input buffers and crossbar into slices, instead of introducing redundancies. As long as there is one fault-free slice for each component, the router can be functional. Experimental results show that the proposed solution achieves quite high reliability with graceful performance degradation even under high fault rate.

the architecture of the latest Graphic Processing Unit (GPU) consists of a number of uniform programmable units integrated on the same chip, which facilitate the general-purpose computing beyond the graphic processing. With the multiple programmable units executing in parallel, the latest GPU shows superior performance for many non-graphic applications. Furthermore, programmers can have a direct control on the GPU pipeline using easy-to-use parallel programming environments. these advances in hardware and software make General-Purpose GPU computing (GPGPU) widespread. In this paper, we parallelize a computationally demanding financial application and optimize its performance on a latest GPU. We also analyze the performance results compared with those obtained using CPU only. Experimental results show that GPU can achieve a superior performance, greater than 190x, compared with the CPU-only case when the data fits in the graphic memory. We also address the performance issue in the out-of-core case where the data cannot fit in the device memory on the GPU. In such a case, by using streaming technique helps make up the performance gap lost due to data transfer overhead from the CPU side to the GPU DRAM. © 2010 IEEE.

the problem of synthesis of Petri nets from transition systems or languages has many applications, ranging from CAD for VLSI to medical applications, among others. the most common algorithms to accomplish this task are based on the theory of regions. However, one of the problems of such algorithms is its space requirements: for real-life or industrial instances, some of the region-based algorithms cannot handle in memory the internal representation of the input or the exploration lattice required. In this paper, the incremental derivation of a basis of regions and the later partitioned basis exploration is presented, which allows the splitting of large inputs.

this paper provides a Web-service based software architectural perspective on the design of systems able to identify; and solve risky situations that may occur in work environments. the technological and computational advances in the IT world (e.g., service-oriented, wearable services) may provide a significant support for the management of risks, and implicitly the reduction of the accidents in the work environment. this paper discusses how a Web-service architecture can be implemented for a Risk Management System. In this context, the Web-based technologies and solutions are fundamental for the access of critical information, communication of the main decisions, and contact of the actors of the system from anywhere and from any type of device.

A system is reconfigurable when it can modify its behavior or its architecture at runtime. the constant growth of the complexity in embedded systems, the variation of execution environment constraints and the evolution of user requirements make the reconfiguration more important and more difficult to achieve. the challenges concern as much the design model level as the runtime support level. these area involve widely diverse core expertise ranging from formal methods, system architecture, hardware design and software engineering. However, there is still a gap between levels involved in the development of these systems. this observation yield the following: we present the state of the art for the modeling and development of these systems through four classes of tools: component-based software engineering, technologies used to specify and configure embedded systems, frameworks and development processes.

A dream of humanoid robot researchers is to develop a complete “human-like” (whatever that means) artificial agent both in terms of body and brain. We now have seen an increasing number of humanoid robots (such as Honda's ASIMO, Aldebaran's Nao and many others). these, however, display only a limited number of cognitive skills in terms of perception, learning and decision-making. On the other hand, brain research has begun to produce computational models such as LIDA. In this paper, we propose an intermediate approach for body-brain integration in a form of a scenario-based distributed system. Busy hospital Emergency Departments (ED) are concerned with shortening the waiting times of patients, with relieving overburdened triage team physicians, nurses and medics, and with reducing the number of mistakes. Here we propose a system of cognitive robots and a supervisor, dubbed the TriageBot System that would gather both logistical and medical information, as well as take diagnostic measurements, from an incoming patient for later use by the triage team. TriageBot would also give tentative, possible diagnoses to the triage nurse, along with recommendations for non-physician care Some of the robots in the TriageBot System would be humanoid in form, but it is not necessary that all of them take this form. advances in humanoid robotic design, in sensor technology, and in cognitive control architectures make such a system feasible, at least in principle.
