this paper analyzes the theoretical foundations of the invariant, robust, and stable methods in computer vision applications. Some studies had shown that many known invariants used in pattern recognition algorithms are not robust to small changes in images and robust parameters of these algorithms are not invariant. We provide a conceptual framework for new studies on invariance, robustness, and stability of computer vision algorithms critical for applications. Based on this theoretical analysis new invariant, robust and stable methods suited for the complexity of computer vision tasks, can be designed.

Automated visualization of circuits is an important research area in electronic design automation. In contrast to the numerous papers and work done on graph and hypergraph drawing on equal size nodes, this paper presents a framework to efficiently cope with nodes that are orders of magnitudes different in size. To improve the clarity of the drawing a crossing reduction step and a fast routing heuristic are applied which try to avoid unnecessary crossings and bends within the wiring. Experimental results are provided which show that the run time remains small enough to drive an interactive tool even on very large circuit benchmarks.

this paper presents a novel method to construct a surface by interpolating and/or approximating a set of unorganized sparse three-dimensional curves. No assumptions are made regarding topological relations among the curves, except that typically they do not touch each other. the proposed method first builds a topology among the given curves then uses it to construct the surface geometry. Applications include modeling, fast prototyping, and the definition of curves for the construction of surfaces.

We present a new dynamic range compression method for the reproduction of high dynamic range digital images on conventional display devices. the proposed technique is computationally efficient and easily adjustable with few parameters. Novel contributions of this work include an edgepreserving smoother for the extraction of the visual adaptation level which avoids the formation of halo artifacts in the resulting image and a technique for contrast mapping which improves the visibility of the image details. the algorithm is finally evaluated by means of an objective measure proving its effectiveness.

In order to display images of high dynamic range (HDR), tone reproduction operators are usually applied that reduce the dynamic range to that of the display device. Generally, parameters need to be adjusted for each new image to achieve good results. Consistent tone reproduction across different images is therefore difficult to achieve, which is especially true for global operators and to some lesser extent also for local operators. We propose an efficient global tone reproduction method that achieves robust results across a large variety of HDR images without the need to adjust parameters. Consistency and efficiency make our method highly suitable for automated dynamic range compression, which for instance is necessary when a large number of HDR images need to be converted.

Scientists, engineers, and decision makers in a wide variety of fields are faced withthe problem of visualizing the effect of multiple parameters on quantities of interest. Oftentimes a model of some physical system is involved in which the participants are interested not only in the model results, but also how the various driving parameters of the model have influenced that result. Moreover, the data sources and models have uncertainties associated withthem. It is generally important to be able to visualize those uncertainties, and especially to be able to quickly focus on areas where there is considerable disagreement. In this paper, we review the use of a new visualization technique called Attribute Blocks and demonstrate how this can be used to visualize uncertainly in multiple driving model parameters simultaneously.

In this paper, an adaptive fast full search algorithm is proposed. In the first of two proposed stages, using a predicted motion vector, we determine the adaptive region order based on gradient distances among all regions after partitioning the search range. In the second stage, by means of adaptive region order, the matching error of all search positions is calculated in an optimized calculation order which is derived from the local image complexity of the current macro-block to search. Based on a multilevel successive elimination algorithm the proposed algorithm reduces the complexity of motion estimation up to 96.1% on average, compared withthe conventional full search algorithm without any loss of image quality.

Fast and accurate methods for collision detection of deformable bodies are essential in physically based interactive simulations and used in many applications including surgery simulations, computer games and Virtual Reality. As an efficient method for interactive collision detection of densely meshed tetrahedral meshes, spatial hashing has been introduced. It can be used for deformable and rigid bodies but has the disadvantage that deep object penetrations can occur when coarsely meshed objects are simulated. the use of coarsely meshed objects is especially desirable for multi body simulations and for CAD models, as CAD modeling software often produces irregular triangulations. We present an improved algorithm based on spatial hashing, which resolves this problem by considering also edge-edge collisions. this enables the estimation of the penetration depth for the newly detected penetrations.
