the shift from sequential to agile software development originates from relatively small and co-located teams but soon gained prominence in larger organizations. How to apply and scale agile practices to fit the needs of larger projects has been studied to quite an extent in previous research. However, scaling agile beyond organizational boundaries, for instance in a software ecosystem context, raises additional challenges that existing studies and approaches do not yet investigate or address in great detail. For that reason, we conducted a case study in two software ecosystems that comprise several agile actors from different organizations and, thereby, scale development across organizational boundaries, in order to elaborate and understand their coordination challenges. Our results indicate that most of the identified challenges are caused by long communication paths and a lack of established processes to facilitate these paths. As a result, the participants in our study, among others, experience insufficient responsivity, insufficient communication of prioritizations and deliverables, and alterations or loss of information. As a consequence, agile practices need to be extended to fit the identified needs.

Stress is an important workplace issue, affecting both the health of individuals, and the health of organizations. Early advocacy for agile software Development suggested it might help avoid stress, with practices that emphasize a sustainable pace, and self-organizing teams. Our analysis of a 2014 survey, however, suggested that stress might still be commonplace in agile teams, especially for those with less experience. We also noticed that newcomers to agile emphasized technical, rather than collaborative, practices, and speculated this might explain the stress. We explored this in our analysis of a follow-up survey conducted in 2016, and report our findings in this paper. We show that there are a variety of factors involved, and that avoiding stress is associated with both collaborative and technical practices, and a range of outcomes.

agile software development is increasingly adopted by companies evolving and maintaining software products to support better planning and tracking the realization of user stories and features. While convincing success stories help to further spread the adoption of agile, mechatronics-driven companies need guidance to implement agile for non-software teams. In this comparative case study of three companies from the Nordic region, we systematically investigate expectations and challenges from scaling agile in organizations dealing with mechatronics development by conducting on-site workshops and surveys. Our findings show that all companies have already successfully implemented agile in their software teams. the expected main benefit of successfully scaling agile development is a faster time-to-market product development;however, the two main challenges are: (a) An inflexible test environment that inhibits fast feedback to changed or added features, and (b) the existing organizational structure including the company's mind-set that needs to be opened-up for agile principles.

the implementation and release of software products has progressed from a lengthy delivery cycle - the methodical sequential path of "big bang" waterfall product delivery - to the rapid iterative release cycle supported by agile practices. Recently, "continuous delivery" has emerged as a strategy to accelerate product availability. However, only a systematic automation of the build, test and deployment processes in concert with superbly coordinated teams of software practitioners and business partners makes make this possible. However, trade-offs in the optimization of process may act to limit the innovativeness of product output. this panel will discuss approaches, challenges, risks, and strategies for using continuous delivery to competitive advantage.

Retrospective analysis of agile projects can support identification of issues through team reflection and may enable learning and process improvements. Basing retrospectives primarily on experiences poses a risk of memory bias as people may remember events differently, which can lead to incorrect conclusions. this bias is enhanced in project retrospectives which cover a longer period compared to iteration retrospectives. To support teams in recalling accurate and joint views of projects, we propose using an evidence-based timeline with historical data as input to project retrospectives. the proposed method was developed together with a large software development company in the telecommunications domain. this paper outlines a method for visualizing an evidence-based project timeline by illustrating aspects such as business priority, iterations and test activities. Our method complements an experience-based approach by providing objective data as a starting point for reflection and aims to support objective analysis of issues and root causes.

As organizations increasingly acknowledge the benefits of having a dedicated Product Ops function, inconsistencies and uncertainties surrounding the role's responsibilities persist. By analyzing job advertisements for Product Ops positions, this study identifies and categorizes the expected skills and responsibilities, subsequently ranking them by frequency. the results offer a clearer understanding of the Product Ops role based on industry expectations expressed in the job postings.

It is claimed that integrating agile and security in practice is challenging. there is the notion that security is a heavy process, requires expertise, and consumes developers' time. these contrast with the agile vision. Regardless of these challenges, it is important for organizations to address security within their agile processes since critical assets must be protected against attacks. One way is to integrate tools that could help to identify security weaknesses during implementation and suggest methods to refactor them. We used quantitative and qualitative approaches to investigate the efficiency of the tools and what they mean to the actual users (i.e. developers) at Telenor Digital. Our findings, although not surprising, show that several barriers exist both in terms of tool's performance and developers' perceptions. We suggest practical ways for improvement.
