Digital platform research has focused mostly on global platforms, where the users of the platform are consumers. Business-to-business (B2B) digital platforms have received less attention. this study observes and provides an early report on a digital platform for forestry, bringing together forest companies, contractors, and forest machine manufacturers. the platform started in Finland, but it has begun to extent its scope to international markets as well. We present some early insights about the birth of the platform and the factors that have contributed to its success in the beginning. We also describe some aspects present in B2B platform governance and related forces. Finally, we provide a preliminary outlook of possible future directions of the platform and its ecosystem.

agile development methods are increasingly used in large projects, with many development teams. Because acceptance testing can require a large chain of features to be completed, testing is often carried out late in such projects. In this experience report, we describe a large project where 11 development teams delivered a system in 12 three week iterations. We also describe how the focus of test activities was shifted towards the earlier phases of development, what we call "shift left". this involved shifting the focus both within the iterations, and in how the overall testing work was organized. We describe the results of this change, and provide recommendations for how to organize test work in future large-scale development projects.

How do we take XP to the next level? How do we get respect and freedom to work as we'd like? How do we get them to listen to us? XP has successfully raised expectations for what is technically possible with software development. the next challenge is realizing that potential. Doing so requires not more technical skills, but better relationships within the organization, a shift in attitude and perspective. It's natural to want to have impact in the world. How can we best have impact on organizations? Counterintuitively, the way we gain influence is to listen. the way to gain freedom is to be accountable. the way to get respect is to give it. the way to get them to listen to us is to eliminate the dichotomy between us. We are all on the same side working towards a more effective software development process for the good of our company. What we need is a change in perspective. XPers should first demonstrate that others have impact on them, by listening and acting on what others say. We need to offer accountability. With a record of careful listening and trustworthiness, we will be well-positioned to be heard when the organization has a problem and we have an idea. A common barrier to organizational impact for programmers is our sense of "being special". the days of the prima donna programmer are over. What would happen if we treated everyone we talked to as if their ideas, needs, and perspectives had equal value with our own? that would be extreme. It would require a shift in our beliefs about organizations and our contributions to them. XP has improved programmers work. Influence at the next level uses the same principles apply that have guided XP thus far. Respect, mutual benefit, improvement in baby steps from where we are today;these are principles that can guide the maturation of an XP team to be a full partner in business. these are the principles that, if applied with humility and awareness, will help us take XP up another notch in impact and influence. © Spring

agile methods are increasingly used in large development projects, with multiple development teams. A central question is then what is needed to coordinate feature teams efficiently. this study examines three mechanisms for coordination: Shared mental models, communication and trust in a large-scale development project with 12 feature teams running over a four-year period. We analyse the findings in relation to suggested frameworks for large-scale agile development and a theory on coordination, and provide new recommendations for practice and theory.

Context: Ever since the emergence of agile methodologies in 2001, many software companies have shifted to agile software Development (ASD), and since then many studies have been conducted to investigate effort estimation within such context;however to date there is no single study that presents a detailed overview of the state of the art in effort estimation for ASD. Objectives: the aim of this study is to provide a detailed overview of the state of the art in the area of effort estimation in ASD. Method: To report the state of the art, we conducted a systematic literature review in accordance with the guidelines proposed in the evidence-based software engineering literature. Results: A total of 25 primary studies were selected;the main findings are: i) Subjective estimation techniques (e.g. expert judgment, planning poker, use case points estimation method) are the most frequently applied in an agile context;ii) Use case points and story points are the most frequently used size metrics respectively;iii) MMRE (Mean Magnitude of Relative Error) and MRE (Magnitude of Relative Error) are the most frequently used accuracy metrics;iv) team skills, prior experience and task size are cited as the three important cost drivers for effort estimation in ASD;and v) extreme programming (XP) and SCRUM are the only two agile methods that are identified in the primary studies. Conclusion: Subjective estimation techniques, e.g. expert judgment-based techniques, planning poker or the use case points method, are the one used the most in agile effort estimation studies. As for the size metrics, the ones that were used the most in the primary studies were story points and use case points. Several research gaps were identified, relating to the agile methods, size metrics and cost drivers, thus suggesting numerous possible avenues for future work. Copyright 2014 ACM.

this study explores the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in university teaching, with a focus on the teaching of programming. Despite the growing use of AI in education, both students and teachers often struggle to understand its role and implications. To address this gap, we conducted a survey of a wide group of students (n = 200) to assess their experiences and perspectives on the use of AI in programming education. the survey results suggest that AI is becoming increasingly involved in university teaching, particularly in the teaching of programming. However, students require guidance from teachers in order to use AI tools effectively in their studies. the study concludes that the goal of teaching programming should be to guide students in the responsible use of AI. Overall, the study highlights the need for greater awareness and understanding of AI in university teaching and the fact that teachers have an important role to play in providing guidance to students on the responsible use of AI tools.

In agile software development, a core responsibility of the product owner (PO) is to communicate business needs to the development team. In large-scale agile software development projects, many teams work toward an overall outcome, but they also need to manage interdependencies and coordinate efficiently. In such settings, POs need to coordinate knowledge about project status and goal attainment both within and across the development teams. Previous research has shown that the PO assumes a wide set of roles. Still, our knowledge about how POs coordinate amongst themselves and with their teams in large-scale agile is limited. In this case study, we explore PO coordination in a large-scale development program through the theoretical lens of Relational Coordination theory. Our findings suggest that (1) coordination varies depending on the context of each PO, (2) a focus on achieving high-quality communication changes coordination over time, and (3) unscheduled coordination enables of high-quality communication.

the World Health Organization (WHO) highlights the significant threat that unsustainably long working hours pose to our mental and physical well-being. Aligning with this concern, an agile principle emphasizes that "agile processes promote sustainable development." However, previous work in 2023 debunked this notion of inherent stability in agile systems, such as the Scrum and Kanban frameworks. In this study, we aim to analyse the relationship between system stability and the tendency of teams to work outside reasonable office hours. We inspect 295 historic agile projects completed in intive, a software development company. We assess the percentage of late-night, early-morning, or weekend hours where a Product Backlog Item (PBI) was created or resolved and compare this percentage of Unsustainable Hours metric to the Stability Metric and the number of Inventory Days remaining. the analysis showed that almost no correlation exists between the Unsustainable Hours worked and either the system stability or outstanding inventory. these findings indicate that, while working unconventional and potentially excessive hours is a concern, it does not appear to be linked to the stability of agile systems. this highlights the need for a deeper understanding of individual and team motivations to foster long-term sustainable work practices.
