the Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) are widely used in control of Industrial processes and Machinery. Numerous companies like Mitsubishi, Siemens, ABB, and Omron have developed commercial PLC's and have launched them in the market. the buyer has to pay a considerable amount to buy commercial PLC's available in the market. In this paper an AVR Microcontroller Based Circuitry is introduced that can be used as an alternative to commercial PLC's. Only higher versions of Programmable Logic Controllers contain analog input module. the developed Microcontroller based PLC can also provide a control for analog input signals. this alternative PLC is developed at a fraction of cost to PLC's available in the market. the controller circuitry is programmed with the help of personal computer software. the LD-Micro Freely available Ladder Logic programming software is used to develop the code for the developed Programmable Logic Controller. © 2021 IEEE.

the process of managing financial transactions, especially in the education sector, is still mostly carried out conventionally, so it has the potential to cause many risks, such as loss or damage to documents related to difficulties in searching for data as needed, transaction processes that take quite a long time, financial records that are not properly recorded. Well, it is prone to discrepancies between the nominal filing and the nominal disbursed conventional representations of financial statements that make the stakeholder evaluation process uncomfortable, and many other things. therefore this research was conducted to build a website-based information system that can prevent this from happening in the future. the method used in the development of this information system is the agile method with the Scrum framework. the Scrum framework consists of five stages, starting from Initiate, Plan, and Estimate, Implement, Review and Retrospect, and Release. this website was built using the Javascript programming language using the Vue JS framework for the Front-end. With this website-based application, it is hoped that transaction activities can be carried out better and correctly without being limited by space and time. © 2023 IEEE.

software engineering tools have regained interests in recent years due to different changes affecting software developing organizations. these organizations carry out activities that might be undertaken in a plan driven and agile manner with the support of such tools. A proper balance between both approaches and the effective tool adoption will help organizations to meet their objectives and evolve. Small and medium enterprises and Cooperatives (S&C) share common characteristics throughout Latin America. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) lack of formality in their roles and relationships among interacting individuals, whereas Cooperatives are usually small companies with weaknesses as to management techniques and technological equipment. In fact, both have difficulties when finding the right personnel and tools that best suit their needs. Considering Venezuela as our study subject, we have herein proposed some criteria to assist S&C in the tools selection that support their development processes while fostering the balance required between agility and discipline. Such criteria were formulated based on the characterization of five factors aimed at determining this balance. these contributions will help subsequently identifying methodological and technical aspects to provide guidance to S&C in the improvement of their development processes.

To address the problems of traditional software development, recent years have shown the introduction of more light-weight or "agile" development processes (extreme programming being the most prominent one). these processes are intended to support early and quick production of working code by structuring the development into small release cycles and focus on continual interaction between developers and customers. As such software development processes become more popular there is a growing demand from industry to introduce agile development practices in tertiary education. this is not a straightforward task as the corresponding practices may run counter to educational goals or may not be adjusted easily to a learning environment. In this paper, we discuss some of these issues and reflect on the problems of teaching agile processes in tertiary education.

he importance of using a good metaphor within projects was demonstrated by Kent Beck in his keynote talk at OOPSLA 2002. While the role of metaphors seems to be accepted, the process of finding the right metaphor is a demanding task. Letting the metaphor guide you to a suitable system architecture is even harder. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a good starting point for finding and using a metaphor? We introduce the concept of a metaphor design space. this provides a set of proven design metaphors and combines them with architecture patterns similar to Martin Fowler’s Enterprise Application Architecture (see [3]). the basic concept has evolved over the past ten years while working on metaphor-based object-oriented systems. We illustrate the concept using examples from the Tools & Materials approach (see [9]). © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2003.

With agile teams becoming increasingly multi-disciplinary and including all functions, the role of customer feedback is gaining momentum. Today, companies collect feedback directly from customers, as well as indirectly from their products. As a result, companies face a situation in which the amount of data from which they can learn about their customers is larger than ever before. In previous studies, the collection of data is often identified as challenging. However, and as illustrated in our research, the challenge is not the collection of data but rather how to share this data among people in order to make effective use of it. In this paper, and based on case study research in three large software-intensive companies, we (1) provide empirical evidence that ‘lack of sharing’ is the primary reason for insufficient use of customer and product data, and (2) develop a model in which we identify what data is collected, by whom data is collected and in what development phases it is used. In particular, the model depicts critical hand-overs where certain types of data get lost, as well as the implications associated with this. We conclude that companies benefit from a very limited part of the data they collect, and that lack of sharing of data drives inaccurate assumptions of what constitutes customer value. © the Author(s) 2016.

software startups are challenging endeavours, with various road blocks on their path to success. the current understanding of the challenges that software startups may encounter is very limited. In this paper, we use the research framework of learning and product development stages to analyse the key challenges that software startups have to deal with at different life cycle stages, from problem definition to solution validation and from concept to mature product. Based on an analysis of the empirical data collected by a large survey of 4100 startups, we find out that what perceived as biggest challenges by software startups do vary across different life cycle stages. Building product is the biggest obstacle for software startups, even though its significance decreases when the learning focuses of the startups move from problem to solution and their products mature. Business related challenges such as customer acquisition and scaling are more noticeable at the later stages. Our study raises the awareness of these challenges and suggests to tackle right challenges at the right time. © the Author(s) 2016.

Adapting to and complying with frequently changing legislation quickly against low costs requires organizations to adapt their business processes automatically. Semantic representation of legal knowledge is a prerequisite for the automatic creation of business processes. Business Rules (BR) can be used to capture legal knowledge and business processes can be created by selecting, composing and invoking Semantic Web Services (SWS). In this paper, a modeling framework is presented that enables the automatic creation of business process by invoking SWSs. Process creation is conducted by BRs derived from legislation. the framework addresses the modeling of legal knowledge representation and service descriptions that are required for creating operational processes at runtime. the framework is briefly illustrated by a legislation implementation case study which shows how compliance between business processes and legislation is ensured. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2014.

Various agile methods have several quality assurance mechanisms embedded in the process itself, without any explicit QA role. In principle, the team takes care of quality assurance during sprints and as part of daily stand-ups, sprint reviews and retrospectives. We have defined SafeScrum, a variant of Scrum with some additional XP techniques that can be used to develop safety-critical software and have the software certified according to the IEC 61508 standard. this imposes a load of additional requirements on the process. In a recent industrial case, we have experienced that the quality assurance mechanisms in Scrum becomes insufficient. We have therefore analyzed the standard, consulted an independent assessor and worked with the Scrum team to identify necessary additional tasks for a team-internal QA role to be added to the SafeScrum process. © the Author(s) 2016.

Detection of stateful complex event patterns using parallel programming features is a challenging task because of statefulness of event detection operators. Parallelization of event detection tasks needs to be implemented in a way that keeps track of state changes by new arriving events. In this paper, we describe our implementation for a customized complex event detection engine by using Open Multi-Processing (OpenMP), a shared memory programming model. In our system event detection is implemented using Deterministic Finite Automata (DFAs). We implemented a data stream aggregator that merges 4 given event streams into a sequence of C++ objects in a buffer used as source event stream for event detection in a next processing step. We describe implementation details and 3 architectural variations for stream aggregation and parallelized of event processing. We conducted performance experiments with each of the variations and report some of our experimental results. A comparison of our performance results shows that for event processing on single machine with multi cores and limited memory, using mutli-threads with shared buffer has better stream processing performance than an implementation with multi-processes and shared memory. © 2016 ACM.
