Educational digital game is nothing new as it has been implemented in multiple discipline and fields, similarly, its effectiveness is undoubtedly high, however the existing direction of research tend to focus to technical aspect of game development such as requirement engineering, algorithms, and UML processes and neglects the game design aspect of the educational game. this study proposes a novel game design methodology that combines agile-extreme programming software development life cycle with game design aspects by using expert testing as a method of validating the game design output of game prototype. this study uses Computer System Usability Questionnaire (CSUQ) as a method of measuring the game concept as well as a media and subject-matter evaluation questionnaire that measures multiple aspect of game design. the implementation of the proposed methodology is done in three game design steps of ideation, conceptualization, and prototyping. the subject-matter expert review yields a score of 82.2 in term of subject matter correctness and 88.5 in term of question appropriateness, while the media expert review yields a score of 65.7 for software engineering aspect, 65.7 for visual communication aspect, and 73.3 for media design aspect, while the overall CSUQ yields a score of 72.1. the general expert feedbacks on the designed prototype using the proposed methodology are also elaborated thoroughly. © 2019 IEEE.

this volume constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 10th international Workshop on Agent-Oriented software engineering, AOSE 2009, held in Budapest, Hungary, in May 2009 as part of AAMAS 2009, the 8th international conference on Autonomous Agents and Multiagent Systems. the 10 revised full papers presented were carefully selected from numerous initial submissions during two rounds of reviewing and improvement. the papers have been organized into three sections on multi-agent organizations, concrete development techniques, and - one step higher - going beyond the concrete technique and proposing a development method for designing concrete types of systems. this state-of-the-art survey is rounded off by five additional lectures addressing key areas in development: agent-oriented modelling languages, implementation of MAS, testing of MAS, software processes, and formal methods for the development of MAS. they permit analysis of the current state in the generation of specifications of MAS, the way these specifications can be implemented, how they can be validated, and what steps are necessary to do so.

A coastal and estuarine process-based model was applied to investigate morphodynamic responses to extreme hydrological conditions by typhoons, storm waves, river floods, and their combined physical forcings at an estuary. Numerical simulations revealed complex but overall flow patterns and morphological changes in the estuary, e.g., bank overflow and coastal inundation, erosion/deposition, as well as breaching of river mouth sand bar. these results are important to understanding of sediment transport and morphodynamic processes in the estuary especially during storms, tides, and floods. Furthermore, it can be used in planning for flood protection, sediment management, and shoreline stabilization in the region. the model's effectiveness was confirmed in simulating comprehensive impacts of waves, storm surges, hurricanes/typhoons, and river floods on hydrodynamics, sediment transport, and morphological changes in the coastal and estuarine regions. this numerical software package is, in general, capable of assisting engineers and researchers to achieve better coastal flood management and infrastructure protection against extreme hydrological conditions in coasts and estuaries. © 2008 American Society of Civil Engineers.

the construction of large scale parallel and concurrent applications is one of the greatest challenges faced by software engineers nowadays. Modern programming models for concurrency including libraries implementing high level abstractions such as JCSP lead to tangled and scattered concurrency code. As such, this paper outlines our initial effort on the separate of concurrent (JCSP code) concern from the sequential Java processes. We explore metadata annotations to implement this separation of concerns. A compiler generates AspectJ code used to instrument the JCSP features under the hood. We also present a case study that assesses the benefits of the proposed approach through a metrics suite. Copyright 2011 ACM.

In order to fulfill every project specific requirement in software development today, and produce a software product with desired functionality and satisfactory quality attributes, adequate development and management processes ought to be designed, implemented, adopted, operated and or improved. Mandatory requests on shorter time to market, staying within the budget limit and producing high quality software become even more stressful for project stakeholders when dealing with complex software systems, like the ones for enterprise resource planning or multidimensional drafting of complex models for technical and engineering products. Based on the real-life experience, that is thoroughly analyzed here, in integrating such two complex software systems, a hybrid process model for project management and software development in agile environment is proposed in this paper. the model attributes specially stressed out and analyzed are suitability for agile conditions and adaptive behavior. Conclusion gives usage perspective for such a hybrid model, with limitations discussed and future work proposed.

Developing software using a well-defined, well-understood process improves the likelihood of delivering a product with the required quality. Enhancing that process to meet recognised process standards, such as CMMI and ISO 9000, can further facilitate the development of complex systems in a repeatable and predictable way. there are tradeoffs involved, however. In particular, because projects differ in their scale, scope, and technical challenge, the same process will not suit all circumstances. agile approaches to development, such as extreme programming (XP), SCRUM and Crystal Methodologies, recognise this dilemma and suggest that processes be tailored to each situation. the research problem for postgraduate investigation is to determine in detail how this can be achieved successfully. this will include a consideration of how best to define, maintain and give access to a knowledge base recording details of process concepts, techniques and experience.

A bad software development process leads to wasted effort and inferior products. In order to improve a software process, it must be first understood. Our unique approach in this paper uses code and test changes to understand conformance to the Test Driven Development (TDD) process. We designed and implemented TDDViz, a tool that supports developers in better understanding how they conform to TDD. TDDViz supports this understanding by providing novel visualizations of developers’ TDD process. To enable TDDViz’s visualizations, we developed a novel automatic inferencer that identifies the phases that make up the TDD process solely based on code and test changes. We evaluate TDDViz using two complementary methods: a controlled experiment with 35 participants to evaluate the visualization, and a case study with 2601 TDD Sessions to evaluate the inference algorithm. the controlled experiment shows that, in comparison to existing visualizations, participants performed significantly better when using TDDViz to answer questions about code evolution. In addition, the case study shows that the inferencing algorithm in TDDViz infers TDD phases with an accuracy (F-measure) of 87%. © the Author(s) 2016.

In the last decade, Kanban has been promoted as a means for bringing visibility to work while improving the software development flow, team communication and collaboration. However, little empirical evidence exists regarding Kanban use in the software industry. this paper aims to investigate the factors that users perceive to be important for Kanban use. We conducted a survey in 2015 among Kanban practitioners in the LeanKanban LinkedIn community. the survey results consist of 146 responses from 27 different organisations, with all respondents being experienced in using Kanban. the results show that practitioners perceived Kanban as easy to learn and useful in individual and team work. they also consider organisational support and social influence to be important determinants for Kanban use. Respondents noted various perceived benefits for using Kanban, such as bringing visibility to work, helping to reduce work in progress, improving development flow, increasing team communication and facilitating coordination. Despite the benefits, participants also identified challenges to using Kanban, such as organisational support and culture, difficulties in Kanban implementation, lack of training and misunderstanding of key concepts. the paper summarises the results and includes a discussion of implications for effective deployment of Kanban before describing future research needs. © the Author(s) 2016.
