Massively parallel computing is applied extensively in various scientific and engineering domains. With the growing interest in many-core architectures and due to the lack of explicit support for inter-block synchronization specifically in GPUs, synchronization becomes necessary to minimize inter-block communication time. In this paper, we have proposed two new inter-block synchronization techniques: 1) Relaxed Synchronization, and 2) Block-Query Synchronization. these schemes are used in implementing numerical iterative solvers where computation/communication overlapping is one used optimization to enhance application performance. We have evaluated and analyzed the performance of the proposed synchronization techniques using Jacobi Iterative Solver in comparison to the state of the art inter-block lock-free synchronization techniques. We have achieved about 1-8% performance improvement in terms of execution time over lock-free synchronization depending on the problem size and the number of thread blocks. We have also evaluated the proposed algorithm on GPU and MIC architectures and obtained about 8-26% performance improvement over the barrier synchronization available in OpenMP programming environment depending on the problem size and number of cores used.

Blockchain technology inherently necessitates redundant computation to achieve consensus among untrusted parties because of its fundamental threat model. this requirement, however, compromises system performance and impedes the widespread adoption of blockchain. To leverage existing physical resources, current research on high-performance consortium blockchain algorithms and architectures frequently employs cluster-node architectures to expand the parallel processing capability of traditional single physical nodes. Our investigation reveals a significant trend as the parallel capability of individual nodes improves. the idle time caused by synchronization of all transactions within each block, previously considered negligible, has become increasingly significant. To address this, we present BachLedger, which implements Seamless Scheduling to fully utilize inter-block thread idle time, thereby augmenting system resource utilization and achieving overall performance improvements. Our experimental results demonstrate that our algorithm surpasses current state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance levels in high-performance consortium blockchains and effectively resolves the aforementioned synchronization issue. Furthermore, this scheduling algorithm offers enhanced scalability for BachLedger, positioning it as a promising solution for future blockchain implementations.

With the growing number of cores on chip, scalability of application becomes one of the most important metrics to impact performance and efficient utilization of hardware resource. Simple multi-threading transformation usually acts not well enough so that many of multi-threaded programs should be reconsidered for exploiting more parallelism. However, complex data dependency makes programmer hard to discover the regions with good scalability. Meanwhile, a variety of parallel programming models and platform properties make the choice of parallel granularity even difficult. In this paper, we develop a tool, named Para Insight, to help programmer obtain a quantification insight of parallelism on multi-granularity, as an assistant to ease the process of parallel analysis. We concentrate on revealing the inherent characteristic of program itself, independent of programming model and platform. While regions on which parallelization efforts should be focused are ordering, programmer could choose interested candidate and then use the quantification results to estimate the parallel zing overhead according to concrete parallel programming model and platform parameters. In contrast to many other parallelism discovery tools which mainly focus on parallel zing legacy serial programs, our tool provides assistance on the process of multi-threaded program development. We use multi-threaded benchmark suite Parsec and Splash2 to demonstrate the use of our tool, and specially use two cases to present how to improve performance of multithreaded application with the utilization of analysis data.

the indoor visible light communications have mainly the two serious problems; the bit error rate (BER) deterioration due to interference from ambient light and change of the data transmission efficiency according to dimming level. To settle the above problems, in this paper, the variable N-parallel code-shift-keying (VN-CSK) system with modified prime sequence codes (MPSC) for indoor visible light communications is considered. the VN-CSK system with MPSC achieves the same transmission efficiency by changing the number of the codes to select from M MPSCs depending on light regulation data. For example, if the number of MPSC is 5, the VN-CSK system with MPSC can realize 4 stages of dimming level. Moreover, the VN-CSK system with MPSC can suppress the influence of co-channel interference by using the group characteristics of MPSC. the bit error rate performance of the VN-CSK system with MPSC is evaluated in optical wireless channel by theoretical analysis. the VN-CSK system with MPSC can realize BER 10 -6 when average received optical power per code is -49 [dBm] and the desired signal to interference signal ratio P w /P i ≥ 3 [dB].

A deployment method had been constructed for virtual machine cluster based on energy minimization and graph cut theory. First, virtual machine cluster was described by energy minimization. Second, deployment of virtual machine cluster was changed into maximum flow minimum cut problem. thirdly, sink and source point was added and activity node was found. Finally, activity tail-nodes were connected and cut formed for virtual machine cluster. Experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively cut virtual machine cluster and select rationally physical host for sub-cluster.

With the ability to execute more than one thread parallelly, the multi-core processor is claimed to deliver greater performance for multithreaded applications. the performance of thread scheduler in Java Virtual Machine has a profound impact on the performance of multithreaded Java applications. However, the lack of efficient thread scheduler in Java Virtual Machine creates burden in scheduling threads into parallel processors. Various enhancements on thread scheduler in JVM are proposed to boost up the performance of Java applications on dual-core processor. Affinity scheduling mechanism yields a 4% of throughput improvement. Priority scheduling mechanism helps in reducing the overhead incurred by 23.1%. these results shown the mechanisms suggested are efficient in delivering better performance on dual-core processor.

Many stores are introducing tools for customer self-service, such as product searches and store navigation. Using mobile devices, such as the customers' smartphones and tablets, services of this kind can be enhanced to allow a customer to obtain product and store information more quickly. In such an environment, a history of customer queries can be stored daily in a database system maintained by the store. To improve customer convenience and sales at a store, it is desirable to extract a customer's potential requests in a store by analyzing the customer's queries. In this study, we present a method of extracting a set of related items from a customer's point of view by analyzing the customer's queries in a store. From experiments using our prototype, we confirm that our proposed method can extract related-item candidates displayed on different shelves.

Error concealment restores the visual integrity of image content that has been damaged due to a bad network transmission. Best neighborhood matching (BNM) is an effective image recovery method that exploits the information redundancy in a block-coded broken image to find similar content which it then uses to repair or conceal errors. On a high definition image BNM is traditionally implemented sequentially, which requires a relatively long time and so is not suitable for real-time or high volume use. In this paper, we analyze the data access patterns of the BNM algorithm, and exploit a GPU platform to speedup the execution through a parallel implementation. We compare and combine several different GPU optimization methods (coalesced global memory access, shared memory, register files, etc.), and propose an improvement to the parallel BNM algorithm. Experiment results show that our approach can speed up BNM twenty-one times over the sequential approach without any obvious loss of accuracy.

Every single communication on the Internet reveals private and sensitive information of the communicating parties if no further measures are applied. Various applications and measures are already available to e.g. tunnel traffic through other nodes to obscure the original sender and receiver. Existing frameworks require external applications, running on the particular nodes. We propose a flexible architecture for an anonymous communication framework that supports the interoperability among different platforms. Our proof-of-concept implementation, based on web standards and web technologies shows the feasibility of the framework in terms of usability and interoperability. the framework is running completely in the web-browser and does not have requirements on external applications. the evaluation results show that our framework brings great benefits to user's privacy and security.

REconfigurable MUlti-media System (REMUS) is a new coarse-grained reconfigurable processor. this paper describes the parallel implementation of H.264 decoding algorithm on REMUS. First, the pipelined parallel decoding technique is introduced to loosen the strict constraint of real-time decoding. Second, the most computing intensive tasks, such as Motion Compensation (MC), Deblocking and Inverse Discrete Cosine Transform (IDCT), are mapped onto the reconfigurable processing Element Array (PEA), while the other control-intensive tasks are carried out by the host processor. Simulation shows that based on proposed approaches, REMUS can support H.264 HighProfile (HiP) Level 4 1920xl080@30fps streams at 200 MHz.
