Given the advent of cyber-physical systems (CPS), event-based control paradigms such as complex event processing (CEP) are vital enablers for adaptive analytical control mechanisms. CPS are becoming a high-profile research topic as they are key to disruptive digital innovations such as autonomous driving, industrial internet, smart grid and ambient assisted living. However, organizational and technological scalability of today's CEP approaches is limited by their monolithic architectures. this leads to the research idea for atomic CEP entities and the hypothesis that a network of small event-based control services is better suited for CPS development and operation than current centralised approaches. In addition, the paper summarizes preliminary results of the presented doctoral work and outlines questions for future research as well as an evaluation plan.

In this study, we explore the efficiency of the Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS), a prominent decision-making algorithm renowned for its effectiveness in complex decision environments, contingent upon the volume of simulations conducted. Notwithstanding its broad applicability, the algorithm's performance can be adversely impacted in certain scenarios, particularly within the domain of game strategy development. this research posits that the inherent branch divergence within the Da Vinci Code board game significantly impedes parallelism when executed on Graphics processing Units (GPUs). To investigate this hypothesis, we implemented and meticulously evaluated two variants of the MCTS algorithm, specifically designed to assess the impact of branch divergence on computational performance. Our comparative analysis reveals a linear improvement in performance with the CPU-based implementation, in stark contrast to the GPU implementation, which exhibits a non-linear enhancement pattern and discernible performance troughs. these findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the MCTS algorithm's behavior in divergent branch scenarios, highlighting critical considerations for optimizing game strategy algorithms on parallel computing architectures.

Multiple-input multiple-output serves as a key technique for modern wireless communication systems but brings big challenges in data detection. Belief propagation (BP) detection enjoys advances for its near-optimal error rate performance and strong robustness. However, the state-of-art BP detection algorithms suffer from either an exponentially increasing computational complexity or sub-optimal error rate performance. To address this issue, this paper proposes an efficient variant based on the real-domain GAI BP (RD-GAI-BP), called the improved RD-GAI-BP, achieving a better error rate performance at the expense of acceptable complexity increments. Numerical results demonstrate that, in the MIMO scenario with N r = 16, N t = 8 and 64-QAM modulation, the proposed improved RD-GAI-BP earns more than 2 dB SNR gains at the BER of 10 -3 when compared with the state-of-art RD-GAI-BP detection.

In this paper we address the problem of scalable, native and adaptive query processing over Linked Stream Data integrated with Linked Data. Linked Stream Data consists of data generated by stream sources, e.g., sensors, enriched with semantic descriptions, following the standards proposed for Linked Data. this enables the integration of stream data with Linked Data collections and facilitates a wide range of novel applications. Currently available systems use a "black box" approach which delegates the processing to other engines such as stream/event processing engines and SPARQL query processors by translating to their provided languages. As the experimental results described in this paper show, the need for query translation and data transformation, as well as the lack of full control over the query execution, pose major drawbacks in terms of efficiency. To remedy these drawbacks, we present CQELS (Continuous Query Evaluation over Linked Streams), a native and adaptive query processor for unified query processing over Linked Stream Data and Linked Data. In contrast to the existing systems, CQELS uses a "white box" approach and implements the required query operators natively to avoid the overhead and limitations of closed system regimes. CQELS provides a flexible query execution framework with the query processor dynamically adapting to the changes in the input data. During query execution, it continuously reorders operators according to some heuristics to achieve improved query execution in terms of delay and complexity. Moreover, external disk access on large Linked Data collections is reduced with the use of data encoding and caching of intermediate query results. To demonstrate the efficiency of our approach, we present extensive experimental performance evaluations in terms of query execution time, under varied query types, dataset sizes, and number of parallel queries. these results show that CQELS outperforms related approaches by orders of magnitude. © 2011

Rule-based systems, on the surface, appear to be capable of exploiting large amounts of parallelism—it is possible to match each rule to the data memory in parallel. In practice, however, we show that the speed-up from parallelism is quite limited, less than 10-fold. the reasons for the small speed-up are: (1) the small number of rules relevant to each change to data memory; (2) the large variation in the processing required by the relevant rules; and (3) the small number of changes made to data memory between synchronization steps. Furthermore, we observe that to obtain this limited factor of 10-fold speed-up, it is necessary to exploit parallelism at a very fine granularity. We propose that a suitable architecture to exploit such fine-grain parallelism is a bus-based shared-memory multiprocessor with 32-64 processors. Using such a multiprocessor (with individual processors working at 2 MIPS), it is possible to obtain execution speeds of about 3800 rule-firings/sec. this speed is significantly higher than that obtained by other proposed parallel implementations of rule-based systems.

Residue Number System (RNS) is non weighted system. this system is a useful tool for Digital Signal processing (DSP) since it can support parallel, carry-free, high-speed, low power and secure arithmetic. One of the most important considerations when designing RNS systems is the choice of the moduli set. this is due to the fact that the system's speed, its dynamic range, as well as its hardware complexity depend on both the forms and the number of the chosen moduli. Researchers have considered many moduli sets to be the basis of a RNS processor: {2 n -1,2 n ,2 n+1 }, {2 n ,2 n -1,2 n-1 -1} , {r n -2,r n -1,r n }, {r a ,r b -1,r c +1} and many others. In this paper a new moduli set {3 n - 1, 3 n + 1, 3 n + 2, 3 n - 2} is introduced. Comparisons demonstrate that we have achieved a significant improvement in terms of speed, security, dynamic range and simple of selection moduli.

In recent years, online programming education and evaluation have developed rapidly. the traditional online education platform focuses on the teaching of knowledge, lacking a good evaluation platform to assess the learning outcomes, while the existing online evaluation platform only focuses on the evaluation of algorithms or languages. Until now, no platform can support the training of engineering-level complex technologies. In this paper, we present our solution - Educoder. Educoder is an one-stop service platform that integrates “teaching”, “learning” and “use”. It not only supports simple programming language training type, but also supports the training of complex technology such as Hadoop, Spring, Machine Learning, Docker, etc. the code environment for student learning and evaluation is managed by Gitlab, and the runtime environment is provided by Kubernetes pod, which guarantees good isolation. For complex types of training, we provide the Docker Web Terminal module for SSH connection to enter the pod for operation and use docker in docker technology to provide support for training that requires multiple services or multiple nodes. In Educoder, we use scripts to serialize the training evaluation steps, and we formed a private evaluation script template library for training teacher to reference, which greatly reduced the time cost of writing a new training course.

A master equation characterizes the time-evolution of trajectories, the transition of states in protein folding kinetics. Numerical solution of the master equation requires calculating eigenvalues for the corresponding large scale eigenvalue problem. In this paper, we present a parallel computing technique to compute the eigenvalues of the matrix with an N-dimensional vector of the instantaneous probability of the N conformations. parallelization of the implicitly restarted Arnoldi method is successfully implemented on a PC-based Linux cluster. the parallelization scheme used in this work mainly partitions the operations of the matrix. For the Arnoldi factorization, we replicate the upper Hessenberg matrix H/sub m/ for each processor, and distribute the set of Arnoldi vectors V/sub m/ among processors. Each processor performs its own operations. this algorithm is implemented on a PC-based Linux cluster with message passing interface (MPI) libraries. Our preliminary numerical experiment performing on the 32-nodes PC-based Linux cluster has shown that the maximum difference among CPUs is within 10%. A 23 times speedup and 72% parallel efficiency are also attained for the tested cases. this approach enables us to explore large scale dynamics of protein folding.

Semantic communication is the focus of sixth generation (6G) wireless communication systems, emphasizing the efficient extraction and transmission of semantic information. However, existing image semantic communication systems face challenges in robustly recovering semantic content and mitigating channel noise. To this end, we propose a module based on a parallel processing approach, called STC, which uses feature segmentation to feed semantic information into the CNN and Transformer respectively in parallel. through this approach, the local information extraction capability of CNN and the non-local information extraction capability of Transformer are efficiently combined, and an improved channel attention mechanism is introduced to incorporate the channel state information into the model training to reduce the unfavorable impact of the channel. Based on STC module, we propose a novel joint source channel coding (JSCC) model. the designed JSCC model improves gradient flow and information exchange through the hierarchical integration of STC and residual blocks. Compared with existing state-of-the-art models and traditional separated source-channel coding schemes, the proposed JSCC model demonstrates superior performance across datasets of varying resolutions.

the pool of available IPv4 addresses is being depleted, comprising less than 10% of all IPv4 addresses. At the same time, the bit-rates at which packets are transmitted are increasing, and the IP lookup speed must be increased as well. Consequently, the IP lookup algorithms are in the research focus again because the existing solutions were designed for IPv4 addresses, and are not sufficiently scalable. In this paper, we compare FPGA implementations of the balanced parallelized frugal lookup (BPFL) algorithm, and the parallel optimized linear pipeline (POLP) lookup algorithm that efficiently use the memory, and achieve the highest speeds.
