Software applications for biological networks analysis rely on graphs to model the structure interactions. A great part of them requires searching for subgraphs in a target graph or in collections of graphs. Even though very efficient algorithms have been defined to solve such a subgraph isomorphisms problem, the complexity of current real biological networks make their sequential execution time prohibitive. On the other hand, parallel architectures, from multi-core to many-core, have become pervasive to deal with the problem of the data size. Nevertheless, the sequential nature of the graph searching algorithms makes their implementation for parallel architectures very challenging. this paper presents three different parallel solutions for the graph searching problem. the first two target the exact search for multi-core CPUs and many-core GPUs, respectively. the third one targets the approximate search for GPUs, which handles node, edge, and node label mismatches. the paper shows how different techniques have been developed in all the solutions to reduce the search space complexity. the paper shows the performance of the proposed solutions on representative biological networks containing antiviral chemical compounds and protein interactions networks.

In this paper, the semantic complex event processing based on the metagraph approach and its usage in metagraph multiagent system are discussed. the metagraph model is a kind of complex graph model with emergence. the key element of the metagraph model is the metavertex, which makes the definition of metagraph holonic- A metavertex may include a number of lower-level elements and in turn, may be included in a number of higher-level elements. For metagraph transformation, the metagraph agents are proposed. the distinguishing feature of the metagraph agent is its homoiconicity, which means that it can be a data structure for itself. this is due to the fact that the metagraph agent may be represented as a set of metagraph fragments. thus, the metagraph agent can change the structure of itself or the structure of the other metagraph agents. Changing the structure of a metagraph agent is a form of agent learning. the metagraph multiagent system based on semantic complex event processing using metagraph description of semantic complex event. © 2020 the Authors. In this paper, the features of semantic complex event processing (SCEP) approach based on the metagraph model is considered. the idea of event and event processing is one of the fundamental ideas in the fields of complex systems and software engineering. the definitions and descriptions of Complex Event processing (CEP) and semantic complex event processing (SCEP) are reviewed and summed up. Semantic Web technologies are typically used for semantics description in SCEP approach. Complex event processing combines data from multiple sources. Complex event processing engine may include several processing levels, and semantic complex events may be enriched during processing. the goal of complex event processing is to identify meaningful events (such as opportunities or threats) in the form of the complex situation. Complex event processing engine may use global ontology and static and dynamic semantics. the RDF approach has limitations in describing complex situations, while the metagraph approach addresses RDF limitations in a natural way without emergence loss. the metagraph model is used as a unified model for semantic events description (static and dynamic semantics), complex situation description, global ontology description. Using the combination of the metagraph data model and metagraph agents model it is possible to construct the complex semantic event processing engine in the form of the hierarchy of dynamic metagraph agents. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Smart meters allow energy providers to monitor their customers' power consumption. this fine-grained data stream generates many data points, which hides broader trends in power consumption and makes it difficult for energy providers to make decisions regarding a specific customer or a subset of customers. Since the raw power data has little direct use, various algorithms have been proposed to lower the dimensionality of data, discover trends, study relationships between different features of collected data, and summarize data. these analytical techniques make the data more palatable to the end user. Analyzing smart meter data is computationally intensive as there is a large number of households connected to one energy provider, and each household generates years of data at hourly intervals. To speed up the analysis, clusters of commodity computers have been used. Ironically, such clusters consume substantial energy - studies have shown that about 10% of the world-wide supply of electrical power is consumed by the computing infrastructure. In this paper, we describe the use of a graphics processing unit (GPU) to analyze smart meter data, and compare its performance with a conventional multi-core CPU. We discuss the technical challenges in programming a GPU effectively to process smart meter data, and demonstrate experimentally that this choice of implementation enables substantial improvements in terms of both running time and energy-efficiency as compared to the multi-core CPU.

In this paper, we propose a novel fault-tolerant parallel matrix multiplication algorithm called 3D Coded SUMMA that achieves higher failure-tolerance than replication-based schemes for the same amount of redundancy. this work bridges the gap between recent developments in coded computing and fault-tolerance in high-performance computing (HPC). the core idea of coded computing is the same as algorithm-based fault-tolerance (ABFT), which is weaving redundancy in the computation using error-correcting codes. In particular, we show that MatDot codes, an innovative code construction for parallel matrix multiplications, can be integrated into three-dimensional SUMMA (Scalable Universal Matrix Multiplication Algorithm [30]) in a communication-avoiding manner. To tolerate any two node failures, the proposed 3D Coded SUMMA requires similar to 50% less redundancy than replication, while the overhead in execution time is only about 5-10%.

Moslems are required to remain consistent in wearing syar'i clothing. Sometimes, however, it is very difficult to distinguish between syar'i clothes and the non-syar'i ones, especially in the current millennial era and until the end of time there are many temptations that are not good. Digital image processing in the present day has become one of the areas that can be processed to help various problems associated with images. However, it requires very long processing time and ineffective processing. the CPU alone is not enough. therefore, it takes processing time allocation that can cut the time to speed up the process. this study utilizes the way to speed up performance analysis of digital images through GPU. the performance analysis of GPU includes CUDA and Yolo because it allows specialists in parallel programming to use GPU resources and can perform the object detection process quickly and accurately by applying an artificial neural network to the image of someone who is wearing syar'i hijab as smart clothes for Moslem women. Several hardware, software, and file dependency specifications are employed to support the implementation process. the test results achieve the accuracy of 100%, proving that by using the implementation of Yolo under GPU. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In this paper, we investigate the performance of parallel Discrete Event Simulation ( PDES) on a cluster of many-core Intel KNL processors. Specifically, we analyze the impact of different Global Virtual Time (GVT) algorithms in this environment and contribute three significant results. First, we show that it is essential to isolate the thread performing MPI communications from the task of processing simulation events, otherwise the simulation is significantly imbalanced and performs poorly. this applies to both synchronous and asynchronous GVT algorithms. Second, we demonstrate that synchronous GVT algorithm based on barrier synchronization is a better choice for communication-dominated models, while asynchronous GVT based on Mattern's algorithm performs better for computation-dominated scenarios. third, we propose Controlled Asynchronous GVT (CA-GVT) algorithm that selectively adds synchronization to Mattern-style GVT based on simulation conditions. We demonstrate that CA-GVT outperforms both barrier and Mattern's GVT and achieves about 8% performance improvement on mixed computation-communication models. this is a reasonable improvement for a simple modification to a GVT algorithm.
