Although pulmonary rehabilitation has been well-recognized and recommended by the medical sector as an effective treatment to control and even prevent Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), a generally low level of compliance across patients taking pulmonary rehabilitation often prevents the program from delivering satisfactory outcome in practice. Motivational interviewing (MI) is frequently used as a directive, client-centered counselling style to promote adherence to treatment in patients with COPD. this study explored the effectiveness of MI in eliciting the real needs and requirements of patients with COPD, as required to create design inventions with satisfactory usability. In the first stage, twenty patients with COPD were interviewed. the interviewees were randomly divided into a control group and an intervention group of 10 each. the control group (n= 10) underwent an unguided interview, while the intervention group (n = 10) was interviewed using the MI technique. the results were analyzed using comparative analysis. the number of effective answers acquired from the intervention group was significantly larger than those from the control group. In the second stage, a conceptual pulmonary rehabilitation unit was designed based on the user insight established from the interviews results. this unit was then tested with the interviewees and three physicians, and received positive feedback. this pilot study showed that MI aided the designers in establishing rich and credible insights into patients with COPD, by disclosing user information that traditional interview techniques tended to omit. It also provided a reference for on how to apply MI results properly in new product inventions.

there is an increasing interest in hardware accelerators, both in academia and industry. the industry invests in application-level accelerators, like graphics Processing Units (GPUs) or Field programmable Gate Array (FPGA) accelerators connected to the PCIe bus. Hardware accelerators outperform general purpose Central Processing Units (CPUs) in terms of power consumption and performance. Hardware accelerators seek to optimize arithmetic operations, since it is the heart of the computation circuitry in different algorithms and applications. In this context, posit is proposed to replace IEEE Standard 754-2008 floating point and offers more efficient arithmetic units in terms of accuracy and Power-Performance-Area (PPA) matrix. In this paper, we introduce a low power Verilog HDL design and implementation of Posit Arithmetic Unit (PAU) for efficient hardware accelerators. Our regular proposed PAU is synthesized on Xilinx ZYNQ-7000. the results show34% area improvement and 14% power saving, while our compact PAU achieves 25% area reduction and 45% power saving. © 2022 IEEE.

Web accessibility awareness among development teams has increased with initiatives like theWeb Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and more user-centered development methods. While this awareness has grown, there is a need to explore accessibility from diverse stakeholder perspectives when applying these standards. this study presents findings from a survey of 47 stakeholders who used an internal customized digital tool with design components like patterns, principles, and graphic profiles. this study aimed to gain a deeper understanding of the stakeholders' experiences when developing accessible public web services with the support of a customized ICT tool. Results show that a knowledge-based digital platform, which is used for assessing and communicating accessibility requirements, can streamline the development process and establish a common baseline for all stakeholders involved in developing accessible public web services. this research highlights the importance of having a holistic perspective from various stakeholders on accessibility and the impact of tailored tools in fostering inclusivity and compliance with web accessibility standards.

the study aims to design and implement a series of low-frequency single-phase inverters that produce pure sinus waves using the EGS002 module. the system uses a 12V DC voltage supply and implements an H-Bridge topology with parallel MOSFETs to reduce heat. To maintain the components and the life of the grid, low voltage restriction is carried out using the LVD grid set at the voltage limit of 10.26 volts. Testing is performed using resistive and inductive loads that represent household appliances. the test results showed that the inverter produced an average power factor of 0.64 with a calculation of 0.67 and an error of 6% out of 10 experiments with a resistive load. For inductive loads, the inverter generates an average power factor of 0.89 and 0.91, with an error of 3% in 6 trials. this series of inverters produces pure sinus waves with little distortion and a low frequency of 50 Hz, similar to the frequencies generated by PLN power sources. this inverter can handle loads of up to 500 watts with the appropriate battery capacity. © 2023 IEEE.

During the construction and operation of nuclear power plants, equipment components are affected by various environmental and operational factors, which include high pressure, elevated temperature, radiation, hydrogen absorption, corrosion, vibration, and wear. Such conditions can significantly affect the material properties of these components, leading to issues like aging, embrittlement, fatigue, and the formation and propagation of defects. this study focuses on the previously designed underwater inspection equipment for nuclear power pipelines, which can conduct in-service underwater inspections of these pipelines. In order to ensure the reliability and effectiveness of this equipment, based on computer-aided Engineering (CAE) simulation analysis, this paper uses ANSYS Workbench software to simulate the structure and flow field of the equipment in detail. the results of the simulation analyses indicate that the structure of the underwater inspection equipment for nuclear power pipelines in this study is stable under the specified operating conditions. Additionally, the strength, rigidity, and maximum water flow capacity of the equipment are found to meet the design requirements. this simulation confirms that the underwater inspection equipment is well-suited for its design purpose, providing strong theoretical support for its further experimental verification. © 2024 the Authors.

As traffic congestion escalates, the need for precise and prompt vehicle regulation becomes increasingly critical. Ensuring vehicles comply with fitness certificate requirements is pivotal for road safety and legal conformity. However, traditional manual methods of verifying fitness certificates are prone to errors and time-consuming. this paper introduces an innovative solution: an Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system seamlessly integrated with a backend database for efficient and reliable verification of vehicle fitness certificates. Our proposed ANPR system utilizes computer vision to capture and analyze number plates, matching them with fitness certificate status stored in the database. this technology not only expedites the verification process but also significantly enhances accuracy compared to manual approaches. By merging ANPR technology with fitness certificate databases, this project has the potential to modernize vehicle regulation practices. this paper offers a detailed exploration of the system's design and functionality, showcasing its ability to revolutionize regulatory procedures and promote road safety. the project places a strong emphasis on data security, ensuring the safe storage and retrieval of sensitive vehicle information. through this project, we aim to contribute to discussions surrounding intelligent transportation systems and their role in optimizing regulatory processes. By reducing errors, minimizing manual intervention, and enhancing overall efficiency, the ANPR-based approach offers a path towards safer roads and more streamlined regulation. this abstract provides an overview of the methodology, system architecture, implementation details, results, and conclusions, offering a comprehensive perspective on the proposed solution's effectiveness in automating fitness certificate verification. © 2024 IEEE.

Speculative design, as a new approach in design filed, is believed to open new ways of thinking and perception of the future. through the creation of designed objects, this approach attempts to challenge assumptions and preconceptions about the role that products, services and systems play in everyday life. Products or services or systems can be regarded as fictions that can create stories and scenarios in a participatory and humanized way for the view of future. In this sense, speculative design is a method to discover and discuss technology's influence on everyday life. Based on the literature review of speculative design, the relationship between technology and design, as well as the longtime discussed question: difference between art and design, the author analyzes the technological interactivity and connectivity in 3 typical speculative design cases. In the end, the author points out the nature of speculative designers are new designers who are very close to artists. Two paths of speculative design are classified. As a conclusion, speculative design work are both design as well as art.

the design of an omnidirectional octorotor (OmniOcta) is the scope of this article. the pose of the UAV's thrusters is computed via an optimization algorithm that guarantees the omnidirectionality of the platform. the thrusters' positions are restricted in a semispherical volume with different polar coordinates while their pose is determined in order to avoid the interaction between their propellers' air-funnels. the octorotor is manufactured using 3D printed parts and its employed electronics were selected so as to have the smallest weight. the number of thrusters was then selected as the minimal number that could lift the platform's weight in all rotation directions with the chosen electronic and aerodynamic components. Simulations were conducted to show the capacity of the UAV to lift its weight, while experiments were conducted to identify the allocation matrix of the constructed UAV. © 2024 IEEE.
