this paper describes a new approach for a broadband frequency modulation (FM) active antenna. the new approach makes use of the low-noise GaAs FET transistor. the frequency response and third-order intermodulation (IM) characteristics are presented. An approach to represent the measured antenna impedance is presented to facilitate circuit design and match the simulation with measurements. the use of the presented active antenna is described with examples. Finally, the new design applications are reported. © 2024 IEEE.

the widespread use of ubiquitous computing has led to people spending more time in front of screens, causing poor posture. the COVID-19 pandemic and the shift towards remote work have only worsened the situation, as many people are now working from home with inadequate ergonomics. Maintaining a healthy posture is crucial for both physical and mental health, and poor posture can result in spinal problems. Wearable systems have been developed to monitor posture and provide instant feedback. their goal is to improve posture over time by using these devices. this article will review commercially available, and research-based wearable devices used to analyse posture. the potential of these devices in the healthcare industry, particularly in preventing, monitoring, and treating spinal and musculoskeletal conditions, will also be discussed. the findings indicate that current devices can accurately assess posture in clinical settings, but further research is needed to validate the long-term effectiveness of these technologies and to improve their practicality for commercial use. © ICST Institute for computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2024.

Learning engagement is an important factor in academic success and instructional quality. In authentic settings, analyzing learner engagement status can be challenging due to the complexity of its multidimensional construct. It requires constant monitoring of multimodal engagement indicators (cognitive-level indicators, e.g., effort, emotional-level indicators, e.g., positive/negative emotions) and individualized pacing of learners, identifying when and who needs assistance, as well as making pedagogical strategy that matches the needs of the learners (or group of learners). this study combines user requirements with computational techniques to construct a multimodal learning engagement analysis framework in the blended setting. In addition, a teacher-faced dashboard prototype is developed to statistically summarize and visualize multimodal indicators in away that enables teachers to deploy personalized instruction schemes. the teachers' perspectives discussed in this study portray the great potential of introducing Artificial Intelligent (AI)-augmented models and visual analytics techniques aimed at deploying personalized instructions in the blended learning environment.

the integration of advancing healthcare technologies within complex legacy systems contributes to conditions for suboptimal design. Specifically focusing on the pre-surgical phase, this paper provides insights into the pivotal role user-centred design can play in enhancing the healthcare sector. In recent years, the proliferation of complex applications has led to the emergence of microservices architecture as the preferred approach for developing largescale applications. Consequently, numerous design patterns for microservice communication have evolved, with service orchestration gaining widespread acceptance as a standard solution in recent *** study delves into design patterns for microservice data consistency and develops the service orchestration library, Anser-Saga. this library enables the creation of backups and restart points of distributed transaction states, ensuring eventual data consistency between microservice endpoints. Furthermore, it guarantees that our orchestrator can store, compensate for, and restart the orchestration process in case of an unexpected failure, ensuring transaction integrity. We conducted experiments involving actual microservice invocations to evaluate the availability and performance of microservices. the findings revealed that the Anser-Saga library demonstrated superior performance compared to the DTM solution. © 2023 IEEE.

Dog wearables have demonstrated promising potential in enriching human-pet interactions and facilitating healthier caregiving. However, one area that did not receive adequate attention is the tracking and support of dogs' social well-being through wearables. In this paper, we introduce PuppyFriends, an innovative platform designed to provide owners with insightful information on their dogs' social activities with other dogs. We report preliminary findings from interviews, featuring data collection and visualization, highlighting the potential effects of PuppyFriends on enhancing the social well-being of dogs. By shifting the focus from solely monitoring physical health to including social well-being, our work opens up new possibilities for improving the overall quality of life for dogs and nurturing more fulfilling human-pet relationships.

Although Industrial Automation has gained sufficient expanse in machining works, the medium and small-scale industries still rely on manual and semi-automated processes. In multi-functional machines like Sewing Machines, Lathes, Press use of Foot-pedal switches is very common. Repeated cycles of work cause muscular fatigue. this paper aims at analyzing the operation and gain insights on fatigue patterns in such work conditions. the entire pedal operation is broken into two cycles being lifting and pressing-returning. sEMG technique is used to identify the muscle activity in three muscles namely Gastrocnemius (GA), Soleus(S), Tibialis Anterior (TA). Strain-gauge based load cells are employed on the foot-pedal to understand the Force-sEMG relation. Time-domain and Frequency domain parameters are evaluated for fatigue conditions. We observed that the RMS and MAV values were increasing and MNF and MDF values had negative gradient, which confirms fatiguing in all the three muscles. the MNP of TA was 12.6% of GA and S muscles during fast motions and 52.2% and 11.5% during pressing motion. © 2023 IEEE.

In the rapidly evolving landscape of computer-related technologies, the synergy between artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of things (IoT) has garnered increasing interest from both industry and academia. this burgeoning interest has catalyzed the development of applications at the network edge, which have now achieved considerable scale. As a vital and emergent field of research, machine learning at the network edge intertwines two pivotal themes: wireless communication and machine learning. this research area, termed edge machine learning, endeavors to harness vast quantities of mobile data from edge devices to train machine learning models. A primary challenge addressed in this research is the efficient allocation of limited communication resources amidst the data abundance at the network edge. this includes the strategic management of radio resources, with a particular focus on evaluating and utilizing data importance for optimal radio resource management and allocation. For instance, in wireless communications, the signal-to-noise ratio is often considered a critical metric for assessing data importance. this paper reviews and juxtaposes various methodologies and theories from related works, proposing a novel scheduling algorithm predicated on signal-to-noise ratio considerations. A simulation experiment, leveraging batch training characteristics of convolutional neural networks, is conducted to validate the proposed approach. the findings confirm that the strategic emphasis on data importance significantly enhances the efficiency of training data acquisition for edge machine learning systems.
