Existing techniques for animation of object fracture have a basic assumption that the object materials are homogeneous while most materials in real world are heterogeneous. To solve this problem, we introduce a novel method called MCA to simulate the fracture of heterogeneous materials. the method of movable cellular automata (MCA) is based on the discrete concept and provides advantages both of classical cellular automaton and discrete element methods. First, the object is represented as discrete sphere particles, named movable cellular automata, and then the MCA method is used to simulate the material and physical properties as well as to determine when and where the fracture occurs. To meet the real-time requirement, the MCA simulation is performed on GPU with CUDA in order to accelerate the complex calculation of automata's physical properties. After simulation, the results are directly sent to the vertex buffer object (VBO) for rendering to avoid the costly communication between CPU and GPU. the experimental results show the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method.

this paper presents a new multi-resolution mesh fitting algorithm, extending the adaptive patch-based fitting scheme where each underlying quadrilateral is recursively subdivided into four sub-patches. In this paper, the G 1 continuity constraints, which mainly consist of perpendicular constraints and twist compatibility constraints, are deduced for B-spline patches. In order to construct a unique B-spline patch for each quadrilateral, the mesh vertices are applied in a least-square approximation, and the energy functions associated with a patch are minimized. In contrast to the original algorithm, this paper fits the mesh into B-spline patches instead of Bezier patches with G 1 continuity. the B-spline patches make the algorithm have more free control points to be used for optimizing the shape of the quadrilateral patches to achieve higher flexible patch control and less recursive times.

this paper seeks to formalize the language of empathy surrounding Virtual Reality (VR). the immediacy of VR documentaries has been claimed to be so vivid that users are more capable of empathizing than through previous media. this is a laudable but ambiguous claim. Empathy's multiple definitions complicate how designers use the term. Further, the relationship between users, designers, and subjects in reality needs clarification if claims of empathy are to be made. this paper proposes that VR does not facilitate a direct relationship between a user and an experience's subject in reality to achieve empathy. Instead, VR designers establish role-plays to achieve an empathic actuality-an emotionally charged interpretation of life-which may result in compassion or sympathy. Users end up empathizing directly with a VR designer and their presented representations, not their subjects in lived reality. A review of existing experiences is discussed to clarify claims of empathy and put forward a foundational taxonomy.

Recently, a lot of hybrid methods, which combine case-based reasoning (CBR) with a genetic algorithm GA, have been suggested in product designing. However, the suggested methods perform poorly in case of creative designing. In this paper, a novel simultaneous optimization method is proposed, which combine CBR and GA with an algorithm process for simulation of directed similarity association according to human being’s thought models. Experimental results show that the new hybrid model outperforms other conventional approaches to creative design.
