Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are characterized by deficits in social skills and communications. this paper describes a Collaborative Virtual Environment (CVE) on the Android platform designed to investigate the collaborative behaviors and communication skills of children with ASD. the mobile CVE has the advantages of (1) widespread availability, and (2) allowing flexible communication between people. this presented mobile CVE allows two users in different locations to interact and communicate with each other while playing puzzle games on mobile devices. Multiple puzzle games with different interaction patterns were designed in the environment, including turn-taking, information sharing, and enforced collaboration. Audio and video chat were implemented in the environment in order for the geographically distributed players to talk with and see each other. the usability of the environment has been validated through a user study involving five pairs of subjects. Each pair included one child with ASD and one typically developing (TD) child. the results showed that the presented CVE environment may have the potential to improve players' collaborative behaviors and communication skills.

Mars rover mission carried many types of cameras, which need to complete complex science exploration and research task, it's hard to meet the demands of image paralleled storage and access operations using the traditional Chang-E's multiplex and storage scheme. Due to the speed and memory size limitation of on-board highly reliable radiation-hardened computer, the ground computer file system cannot be realized. this paper designed a FPGA based hardware paralleled image file system to meet the requirement of image data storage management in the Mars rover explore task. In addition the multi-type and multi-camera data file storage system of MARS rover is implemented in the actual rover's computer which provided multi-partition paralleled reading and writing of multi-image files and on demand addressing and copying functions while ensuring high reliability.

the use of robotic rehabilitation devices has emerged as a promising approach to enhance motor recovery during rehabilitation. One of the significant challenges while using these devices is the ability to decide when to provide assistance to the patient. In this regard, we propose a Deep Learning-based solution that can learn from a therapist's criteria when a patient requires assistance during robot-aided rehabilitation therapy. We have trained and evaluated the proposed model with data from different patients during a point-to-point game modality. To make the model more universal, we have applied a series of transformations to the trajectory data before using them as inputs. the proposed model has been evaluated using different metrics and has shown an accuracy of 93.21% and an F1-Score of 85.05% withthe validation dataset. Furthermore, the model has achieved an accuracy of 69.32% and an F1-Score of 63.31% with users who were not involved in the model learning process.

the element-free Galerkin(EFG) method is integrated into topology optimization for designing compliant thermal-structural microactuators, with geometrical nonlinearities considered. Taking into account it’s more capable of capturing the natural behavior of nonlinear compliant mechanisms than the standard finite element method (FEM), the meshfree method is employed to discretize the governing equations and the bulk density field. Furthermore, the design sensitivity analysis is performed by incorporating the adjoint approach into the meshfree method. the availability of the proposed method is demonstrated by designing compliant actuators in which both linear and nonlinear modelings are considered.

Normal design is, essentially, when an engineer knows that the designthey are working on will work. Routine 'traditional' engineering works through normal design. Software engineering has more often been assessed as being closer to radical design, i.e., repeated innovation. One of the aims of the Problem Oriented Software Engineering framework (POSE) is to provide a foundation for software engineering to be considered art application of normal design. To achieve this software engineering must mesh with traditional, normal forms of engineering, such as aeronautical engineering. the POSE approach for normalising software development, from early requirements through to code (and beyond), is to provide a structure within which the results of different development activities can be recorded, combined and reconciled. the approach elaborates, transforms and analyses the project requirements, reasons about the effect of (partially detailed) candidate architectures, and audits design rationale through iterative development, to produce a justified (where warranted) fit-for-purpose solution. In this paper we show how POSE, supports the development task of a safety-critical system. A normal 'pattern of development' for software safety under POSE is proposed and validated through its application to an industrial case study.

We have developed a scheme for music retrieval that adapts to the user's impressions of the musical pieces. First, we conducted impression-estimation experiments in which 100 subjects gave their impression of 80 musical pieces, and then, using a clustering method, we classified the 100 subjects into 20 groups based on the results. Next, we created a user model for each group consisting of formulas for numerically expressing the impressions and a set of vectors calculated using the formulas. We then developed a procedure for identifying the most suitable model for an unidentified user. Testing of the models and procedure in an existing impression-based music-retrieval system demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
