this study pursues two goals. First, to investigate the relationship between vibrotactile feedback and sense of presence in VR. Second, to better understand the ways in which corrective and reenforcing feedback can influence STEM learning outcomes in a VR environment called [Looking Inside Cells]. the VR experience consists of a tutorial and two learning activities. the first level, "Build a cell", relies on corrective feedback. the second level, "Mitosis" employs reenforcing feedback. A vibration in the Build level signals a mistake. A vibration in Mitosis rewards the learner for correct actions. We ran a within-subject design experiment (N = 68) in which participants got randomly assigned to a vibrotactile and non-vibrotactile condition. We tested two hypotheses: Participants with a higher sense of presence achieve higher post assessment scores. Participants in the vibrotactile-condition report higher sense of presence ratings compared to the non-haptic condition. Results indicate that vibrotactile feedback increases the sense of presence and impacts metacognition, which might influence learning outcomes. Participants who received corrective feedback as a vibrotactile stimuli are more likely to underestimate their actual test performance but report higher satisfaction compared to the non-vibrotactile condition. the results highlight the importance of haptic feedback in VR environments. this study might help guide engineers and designers in creating beneficial VR experiences by considering the affordances of the medium and the cognitive mechanisms underlying human computer interaction.

this paper explores the challenges and opportunities in creating and using social multi-platform virtual reality to increase engagement and inclusion in a transformative learning workshop for post-secondary faculty. We studied the creation and use of three virtual learning environments and nine virtual learning artefacts in a gender diversity workshop for trades faculty to understand how the inclusion, creator, and subject matter expert communities are involved in creating and using virtual reality learning content. We document our community-design process for creating a virtual reality learning activity and evaluate its use with observational note-taking and informal interviews to capture nine themes around using virtual reality for transformative learning within social learning spaces. Our results suggest that the virtual reality learning activity was engaging and inclusive, showing potential as a transformative learning tool. Based on our findings, we propose a preliminary model for creating and using inclusive virtual reality within social learning spaces to guide future studies.

Complex SOC Implementation CAD tools have built-in Multi-Objective Optimization (MOO) algorithms to achieve optimal balance between Power, Performance and Area. However, there is always a scope of last-mile sub-optimality present in end design state for a variety of designs and tool dependency. With advancement of data science, analytics and AI, new research directions are emerging to recommend standard cell and interconnect parameters. this paper presents an automated sub-optimality characterization capability for signal interconnect using a multi-variate cost function. Auto-identified sub-optimal nets also get alternate best-fit track assignment guidance and incremental re-routing executed in a scalable streamlined flow. 15+ design trials in 3 tech nodes indicate 4-10% Timing and 0.53 % power improvement potential with 60%+ success in trials. © 2025 IEEE.

Considering the trend seen in recent years regarding drones and their applications in the near future, it becomes clear that more and more systems will be created to support the use of UAVs. this paper presents the integrated Model-Based design approach employed for the development of DIVE (Drone Integration and Validation Ecosystem): a System of Systems (SoS) designed as a functionalities-based architecture. this design technique has been chosen to reduce the time to market new systems since it allows to lower the number of iterations during development, hence facilitating the development and integration of new UAV systems. Currently, DIVE comprises four main areas: Mission Planning, Validation, Operations, and Safety. SkyMission, ARMONIS (Aircraft and Remote MONitored Integrated System), and ELITE (Emergency Landing Identification and Termination System) are the systems that cover these modules. DIVE and the systems it comprises are tested in a digitalized world, exploiting the concept of digital twins, and Wire, the framework that connects them. SkyMission is a simulation environment, created to study and test mission scenarios with UAVs. ARMONIS is a versatile platform meant to permit direct teaming between aircraft personnel, unmanned vehicles, and ground operators. ELITE is a system for UAVs that, unlike a common FTS, employs state-of-the-art Machine Learning and computer Vision technologies to determine the best termination area on the terrain. the underlying backbone that connects all those modules is Wire, a distributed communication framework that can exchange data between them in a decoupled and efficient way. the first tests for these applications with the digital twin have shown promising results. Leveraging different systems, DIVE will be a reliable and scalable system of systems developed using a Model-Based approach, for the integration of UAV-based applications, establishing a novel functionalities-based ecosystem.

this study examines the impact of the game space in Stories of a GeoFarmer, a digital game prototype designed to enhance cultural geography in higher education. Employing the Cybermedia Model, we analyzed student perspectives on how various game design elements influence learner engagement across four layers: representational, mechanical, material, and player. Our qualitative analysis revealed that representational elements can enhance spatial learning and cultural recognition. At the same time, game mechanics can hinder student perceptions of learning due to complexity and lack of intuitiveness. Material issues such as technical robustness affected the gameplay experience, highlighting the need for improved game functionality. However, player interaction with the game's objectives led to positive learning outcomes, illustrating the game's potential as an effective educational tool. the findings suggest that carefully integrating educational content into game design can significantly enhance learning outcomes, particularly in cultural geography education. this study contributes to understanding serious games as versatile educational tools by underscoring the importance of spatial design as a means to maximize student perceptions towards pedagogical effectiveness.

Addressing food waste is a critical concern for the sustainability of our environment. Various approaches have been utilized, such as campaigns to educate the general population to be more mindful and responsible. However, when targeting children, especially on school premises, there is a notable lack of engagement and effectiveness compared to their impact on other demographic groups. Serious games promote the development of social, cultural, and cognitive skills. through game-play, children acquire content knowledge, enrich their experience, and become engaged with the learning information. Recognizing the opportunity of these tools, we created "Masters Against Food Waste" designed and developed to impart children with strategies to combat food waste. the results of a study with 22 students yielded positive results, highlighting the game's potential to raise awareness and prevent food waste effectively.

In this study, a comprehensive numerical-mathematical correlation analysis between experimental results obtained on carbon fibre Sheet Moulding Compound specimens and numerical models is presented. the correlation process was carried out in two different phases: First, the specimens without defects were simulated by shell modelling, followed by checking the correlation of the experimental results with the numerical model. Subsequently, the shell models were converted into continuum shell structures, which led to a more accurate modelling required for the next defects simulation. In fact, after completing the correlation between the shell and continuum shell models, defects were incorporated, and the analysis was performed to evaluate the degradation of the properties compared to real specimens. the results obtained provide an in-depth understanding of the relationship between structural properties predicted by numerical models and the actual conditions of specimens, allowing for refined process optimisation and improved prediction of carbon fibre Sheet Moulding Compound component performance.
