software vulnerabilities are flaws in a product that compromise system security. In large software systems, developers struggle to find particular vulnerable statements from vulnerable functions when new vulnerabilities arise. Existing research underutilizes the potential of vulnerability reports which provides vital context for identifying vulnerable functions and their corresponding statements in source code. the paper introduces VFSDetector, an information retrieval-based approach for Vulnerable Functions and Statements Detection in source code using vulnerability reports. It adapts the Vector Space Model to compare vulnerability report text with source code. Initial evaluation on 10 reports from seven open-source projects show VFSDetector accurately identifies the genuine vulnerable function as the 1st function in 40% of cases and particular vulnerable statements in 20% of cases. It ranks the actual vulnerable function within the top five in 90% of cases and vulnerable statements in the top fifteen in 70% of cases. these findings can assist developers in patching vulnerable statements more quickly.

WebAssembly (Wasm) is a binary instruction format designed for secure and efficient execution within sandboxed environments - predominantly web apps and browsers - to facilitate performance, security, and flexibility of web programming languages. In recent years, Wasm has gained significant attention from the academic research community and industrial development projects to engineer high-performance web applications. Despite the offered benefits, developers encounter a multitude of issues rooted in Wasm (e.g., faults, errors, failures) and are often unaware of their root causes that impact the development of web applications. To this end, we conducted an empirical study that mines and documents practitioners' knowledge expressed as 385 issues from 12 open-source Wasm projects deployed on Github and 354 question-answer posts via Stack Overflow. Overall, we identified 120 types of issues, which were categorized into 19 subcategories and 9 categories to create a taxonomical classification of issues encountered in Wasm-based applications. Furthermore, root cause analysis of the issues helped us identify 278 types of causes, which have been categorized into 29 subcategories and 10 categories as a taxonomy of causes. Our study led to first-of-its-kind taxonomies of the issues faced by developers and their underlying causes in Wasm-based applications. the issue-cause taxonomies - identified from Github and SO, offering empirically derived guidelines - can guide researchers and practitioners to design, develop, and refactor Wasm-based applications.

software deployment is the last stage of the software development life cycle (SDLC). It includes the execution of software in a customer environment. Nowadays, security has been integrated with the SDLC stages to produce secure software, improve software quality, and increase customer satisfaction. However, the software has become complex in recent execution environments, putting more pressure on securely deploying the software in these environments. this work extends our previous study published in [11], in which we have identified a list of best practices to address the secure software deployment challenges. In our previous study, we categorized secure software deployment challenges into five levels of importance;critical, high, medium, low, and very low level. In this study, we provided best practices to overcome critical, high, and medium level challenges. Initially, a traditional literature review was conducted to identify best practices to overcome the challenges of secure software deployment. After that, data was collected via a questionnaire from 10 software deployment professionals to identify best practices that can be used to address the identified challenges. the outcome of this research assists software organizations in overcoming the challenges of secure software deployment. In addition, this study guides software organizations toward the secure deployment of software products.

the project endeavored to design and develop a Web-based Performance evaluation System with integration of rule-based algorithm that will analyze the performance of each reviewee based on the scores from their examination. the algorithm automatically provides suggested reading materials based on the result of the assessment. With this, the system will help the reviewees assess their own performance. the system was developed using Agile Methodology Model of software Development. the software produced was tested using Alpha and Beta software tastings. the FURPS model was used to assess the software quality as perceived by the selected group of respondents. the system was found to be functional, meeting the designed functional requirements specifications.

Virtual laboratory is considered one of the safe online platforms for learners to practice. Using the virtual laboratory, authentic experimentations are performed to evaluate the own ideas and acquire the results. thus, virtual learning assists in boosting the performance of the learners by providing confidence through blended learning. Hence, this research introduces a virtual lab simulator for software engineering students to develop the quality software through the software development life cycle (SDLC) phases and the student assessment evaluation technique. While analyzing the existing virtual labs, the facility of generating real-time user performance evaluation analysis is not available. the assessment evaluation is also downloaded in PDF for processing to the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and National assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) using the proposed Virtual lab simulation. It also provides a detailed, real-time performance evaluation report of the user in downloadable form. It can be used as an educational and assessment tool in teaching–learning scenarios. Higher education students can easily understand the basic concepts of software engineering by performing through this lab simulator. the inclusion of educational tools with the assessment of student's learning and generation of performance analysis/evaluation report of a student in graphical as well as in score format helps to visualize and monitor student progress towards achieving learning outcomes with the topic understanding as well. the method's performance is analyzed based on the performance time and acquired 5 min 50 s for performing one task, which is slightly higher than the expected time of 2 min 22 s. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

For chemical processes to run normally, safety evaluation is required. the conventional quantitative risk assessment approach has the potential to lower accident rates, but it is difficult to estimate the risk of accidents brought on by dynamic chemical circumstances and mostly depends on the knowledge of specialists. In order to tackle this issue, this work proposes the intelligent quantitative risk assessment approach based on dynamic simulation (DQRA-BiLSTM). In order to generate a dynamic data set under atypical circumstances, the process under investigation is first simulated using process simulation software. Bi-directional long short-term memory (Bi-LSTM) is then used to extensively study the possible associations between variables in order to identify the intricate mechanical links between predictor factors that directly affect the severity of accident hazards. A dependable control method is suggested to guarantee the process's safe operation. the approach is used to the carbon di-hydrogenation system in the ethylene separation process, and the experimental findings demonstrate that the model performs well for the dynamic risk assessment of the process, which has some usefulness in real-world scenarios. © 2024 the Authors.

In order to improve the accuracy of failure risk assessment of oil and gas pipelines, a dynamic analysis method based on bow tie-Bayesian network model was proposed. the bow tie model is used to classify the failure causes of oil and gas pipeline and the consequences of pipeline failure. the noise gate model and expert judgment are used to optimize the Bayesian network. the time dimension is introduced to construct the dynamic Bayes, and the susceptibility and severity of pipeline failure accidents are calculated by examples. the results show that the failure probability of the evaluation pipeline is 7.32×10-3 times /(km·a). In the posterior probability, the key factors of pipeline failure are soil migration, unclear pipeline labeling, corrosive substances in the medium and sand particles in the medium. the value of pipeline failure probability within 1~2 time steps is larger, and the risk is larger. In the accident consequence, the risk of explosion is greater than the risk of diffusion than the risk of no consequence, and the probability of accident consequence decreases with the increase of time step. © 2023 SPIE.

this paper presents a grid-integrated technical, economic and environmental evaluation of a Bifacial solar system installed along the Dhaka-Mawa Express Highway in Bangladesh. the research intends to study the viability of the Bifacial solar PV system, including issues such as system design, site selection, installation, operation, and maintenance expenses employing the PVsyst simulation software. the study also evaluates the potential energy generation and financial returns of the system. A simulation model is used for the techno-economic assessment of the Bifacial solar PV system. the simulation results indicate that a Bifacial solar PV system installed along the Dhaka Mawa Express Highway has the potential to generate a total of 59.87 GWh/year of electricity. Furthermore, the average monthly output of 4.24 GWh shows how consistently the suggested system produces electricity throughout the year. It is estimated that installing a Bifacial solar PV system will cost a total of USD 25712524 and the Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) is USD 0.072. Furthermore, a significant advantage of the Bifacial solar PV system is the total CO2 savings of 870510 tonnes over a 25 year period. this is a significant amount of energy that can contribute to reducing the reliance on fossil fuels in the region. © 2023 IEEE.

the WHO's standards for analysis and presentation of anthropometric data is widely recognized as the best system. this study was aimed to assess the agreement of calculation of height-for-age and BMI-for-age Z-scores according to WHO growth charts using of two randomly selected mobile apps in two cohorts of European and Asian subjects. In 1,347 adolescents aged 13 to 17 years, boys and girls, living in St. Petersburg, Northwest of the Russia (European cohort, 663 subjects) and Nukus, Uzbekistan (Asian cohort 684 subjects) measured body weight and stature. Each child's height-for-age Z-score and BMI-for-age Z-scores were calculated based on WHO Child Growth Standards PC version WHO AntroPlus software and mobile applications. It was performed a Blend-Altman analysis to assess the consistency of Z-scores calculated using WHO AntroPlus software and two mobile apps. the results of the evaluation of the consistency of height-for-age and BMI-for-age Z-scores obtained using WHO AntroPlus software and mobile applications showed that Android-based mobile applications systematically overestimate Z-scores. However, this error is much smaller than any clinically significant deviations of the physical development evaluation parameters both in the European and Asian cohort volunteers. thus, it can be claimed that it is possible to use Android-based mobile applications for growth monitoring and BMI and WHO AntroPlus software for children from 5 to 19. this is especially relevant to the need for "field" monitoring of children's growth and development performed by general practitioners visiting patients at home.
