A business process maturity model provides standards and measures to organizations in assessing, defining and improving business processes, thereby guiding them to achieving business goals and values. We developed a business process maturity model called Value-based Process Maturity Model (vPMM) to tackle those goals. the vPMM is a maturity model that can indicate the capability of controlling the business values of an organization and provide guidance on how to incorporate its business value achievement in its business process. this paper describes the comparison results of the two business process maturity models; the vPMM that we developed and the Business Process Maturity Model (BPMM), which is in the process of becoming an OMG standard. For this, we defined four comparison aspects - inputs, structural components,normative information, and informative information - and performed comparison of the two maturity models.

Enterprise architectures (EA) embody the business objectives, processes and information technology infrastructure reflecting the desired incorporation and standardization requirements of a company's operating model. It is vital that during the initial design stages the software system's architecture aligns with the EA. While frameworks exist to check the alignment of enterprise and system architectures, there is an assumption of well-defined requirements derived from the EA's business objectives. this transition is non-trivial as the EA can be a significant document representing the viewpoints of the stakeholders. this paper proposes and illustrates, using the Grounded theory Methodology, a systematic, qualitative procedure, to extract the functional and non-functional enterprise requirements from the EA and/or system description. the contribution of this work is to further systematize the alignment and traceability of EA and system architectures and provide the initial requirements and system models necessary for supporting the of enterprise systems.

Ant colony algorithm, based on behavior of real ants, is a natural approach to establish from their nest to food source. An ant moves randomly and detects a previously laid pheromone on a path in order to find the shortest way between their nest and the food source. Ant system algorithm is an important methodology to apply on non-linear optimal problems recently. Each ant chooses the next position to visit in accordance with the visibility of the position and the pheromone intensity. In this paper, an ant colony algorithm for image segmentation is proposed. We discuss the ideas behind ant algorithms and describe how they have been implemented with regards to the image segmentation problem. the proposed approach has been tested on different images. the experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and practicability of the proposed algorithm.

Many Enterprise Architecture Frameworks (EAFs) are in use today to guide or serve as a model for the enterprise architecture development. Researchers offer general comparative information about EAF. However, there has been little work on the quality of Enterprise Architecture (EA). this study provides the characteristics of the five EAFs using comparative analysis based on Enterprise Architecture Quality Attributes (EAQAs). the attribute of EA quality was extracted from the EAFs and the definition of EAQA was defined from EA user viewpoint. the criteria for each quality attribute were developed to compare EAFs using four dimensional concepts. this paper compared several frameworks using the criteria to provide guidance in the selection of an EAF that meets the quality requirement of EA.

Fuzzy clustering based vector quantization algorithm has been widely used in the field of data compression since the use of fuzzy clustering analysis in the early stages of a vector quantization process can make this process less sensitive to initialization. However, the process of fuzzy clustering is computationally very intensive because of its complex framework for the quantitative formulation of the uncertainty involved in the training vector space. To overcome the computational burden of the process, we introduce a parallel implementation of Fuzzy Vector Quantization (FVQ) using a representative data parallel architecture which consists of 4,096 processing elements (PEs). Our parallel approach provides a computationally efficient solution with the 4,096 PEs by employing an effective vector assignment strategy for the transition from soft to crisp decisions during the clustering process. Experimental results show that our parallel approach provides 1000times greater performance and 100times higher energy efficiency than other implementations using commercial processors such as ARM families.

Proactive fault tolerance (FT) in high-performance computing is a concept that prevents compute node failures from impacting running parallel applications by preemptively migrating application parts away from nodes that are about to fail. this paper provides a foundation for proactive FT by defining its architecture and classifying implementation options. this paper further relates prior work to the presented architecture and classification, and discusses the challenges ahead for needed supporting technologies.

Generally, quality software production seeks timely delivery with higher productivity at lower cost. Redundancy in a test suite raises the execution cost and wastes scarce project resources. In model-based testing, the testing process starts with earlier software developmental phases and enables fault detection in earlier phases. the redundancy in the test suites generated from models can be detected earlier as well and removed prior to its execution. the paper presents a novel max-min multiobjective technique incorporated into a test suite optimization framework to find a better trade-off between the intrinsically conflicting goals. For illustration two objectives i.e. coverage and size of a test suite were used however it can be extended to more objectives. the study is associated with model based testing and reports the results of the empirical analysis on four UML based synthetic as well as industrial Activity Diagram models.

the aim of the BW-eLabs architecture (networked virtual and remote labs in Baden-Wuumlrttemberg) is the expansion of the access to heterogeneous experimental resources (remote and virtual) for the sustainable indexing and use of raw data and experiments for research and education purposes. the creation of efficient possibilities of external access to local experimental surroundings as well as a guarantee of transparency and reproducibility of experiments form a central request. A substantial characteristic of BW-eLabs is that the corresponding data and documents are examined along their entire life cycle and embedded into the entire process chain of experimental environments. Scientific communities and the promotion of cooperation and collaboration in high-technology take centre stage in this concept. Nanotechnology serves as a pilot discipline because especially in this cost intensive area access to experimental equipment is an important prerequisite for ensuring access to professional tools for all scientific communities involved. Existing infrastructure, e.g. digital libraries, decentralized tools, and repositories, are embedded into the 3D-Plattform BW-eLabs. the BW-eLabs stands under OpenAccess-Policy and sees itself as an open network for scientific data and experimental set-ups.

To reuse open source code it is necessary to understand how the software is implemented and how the software architecture is designed. However, it is not an easy task because open source typically does not have the design document which maps features to source code components. In this paper, we propose a method to find the components relevant to a feature in open source code. Our solution is a static approach to recover the relationship between the software manual and the source code and it is based on information retrieval technique. In our approach, we build and analyze a weighted call graph using the similarity values obtained from the vector space information retrieval. Experimental application shows that our method is more robust and is less influenced by cut level than the method of Zhao et al.

Taguchi-based software metrics (numerical software measurements) define software quality in terms of "loss imparted to society" after a software product is delivered to the end user. Previous work has focused on nominal-the-best and larger-the-best loss functions for estimating the loss to society. this paper focuses on the smaller-the-best loss function for estimating the loss to society. the smaller-the-best loss function is for a property whose value should be as small as possible. It is shown that the smaller-the-best loss function can be obtained from the nominal-the-best loss function by substituting zero for t, the target value in the nominal-the-best loss function. this derivation is illustrated and a case study utilizing the derivation is presented. Taguchi-based metrics are in line with six-sigma statistical quality control techniques that have been used with software products for several years. Experiences with Taguchi-based metrics have shown good correlation with existing popularly known software quality metrics.
