Enterprise software development is a very knowledgeintensive process. Modern component-based application development organizations often require collaboration of several stakeholders distributed between different sites. To support developers in performing their tasks, suitable knowledge management tools are required that are able to leverage semantics. Recent developments in the context of the Semantic Web and ontologies including technologies such as Topic Maps or RDF/OWL show potential to address those issues. In this paper, we present an architecture for a distributed knowledge management information system that uses Topic Maps in the background and Semantic Wikis as front end for developers to document and access relevant software development knowledge. the backbone is a Topic Map application infrastructure (called "Topic Grid" in the following) allowing transparent, node-spanning access to different Topic Maps distributed in a network.

this paper describes the automation and optimization of a software development process of NTT Data. the target systems of this development process are Web based information systems running on a J2EE platform. the automation and optimization of that process was achieved by the application of model driven techniques, mainly the integration of development tools via a meta object facility (MOF) repository backbone. the internal evaluation of NTT Data pointed out a development effort and time reduction of more than 50%. the main lessons learned form this case include the necessity of model-to-model transformations, the need to preserve advantage of existing development process and tools landscape, the requirements to care about configuration and change management from the beginning and the requirements to support also non modeling tools. Also, we identified a new business role, which is that of a tool and process integrator

Current grid-aware applications are developed on existing software infrastructures, such as Globus, by developers who are experts on grid software implementation. Although many useful applications have been produced this way, this approach may hardly support the additional complexity to quality of service (QoS) control in real application. We describe the ASSIST programming environment, the prototype of parallel programming environment currently under development at our group, as a suitable basis to capture all the desired features for QoS control for the grid. Grid applications, built as compositions of ASSIST components, are supported by an innovative grid abstract machine, which includes essential abstractions of standard middleware services and a hierarchical application manager, which may be considered as an early prototype of autonomic manager.

this is an ongoing research in international outsourcing software production. this research examines how Software production through the ICTsupported unified process of international outsourcing could be executed and managed effectively. To address this research question, the results of an in-depth literature review in the areas of outsourcing, international outsourcing, information technology, and international software production is presented. this study proposes the information communication technologies' (ICT) - supported unified process model of international outsourcing of software production (SUPMIOSP). ICT-SUPMIOSP provides a detailed guideline on how to manage the entire process of international outsourcing by integrating a number of key issues such as relationship and risks management. Both theoretical and practical aspects of ICTSUPMIOSP are presented. At the theoretical level, the model can be used as a basis for further research, while at the practical level, it helps managers and other stakeholders to understand the multiple activities involved in offshore outsourcing, improve, systematize, and execute the ICT-SUPIOSP more effectively and efficiently.

Due to company mergers and business to business interoperability, there is a need for model transformations in the area of business process modeling to facilitate scenarios like model integration and model synchronization. General model transformation approaches do not consider the special properties of business process models and horizontal transformation scenarios. therefore, we propose a model transformation approach based on domainspecific patterns which are applied for analyzing business process models in a precise way. this approach facilitates the definition of business process model transformations, which can be easily adapted to different business process modeling languages and specific transformation problems. At the same time it supports the intuitive understanding of the domainexperts in business process modeling.

the institution of 'electronic markets as services' needs careful design. In this context, Market Engineering provides a structured design process that guides the market designer in this demanding task. In analogy to the engineering design process, the design stage of the Market Engineering process is decomposed into four major phases being the conceptual design, embodiment design, detail design and implementation. While the conceptual design phase is concerned with the formulization of the problem and the search for abstract solutions, the embodiment design refines the abstract concepts to blueprints that serve as a representation format for further design steps. So far, there was no applicable service blueprinting approach for market engineering. the paper illustrates that protocol diagrams from Agent UML (an UML extension) can serve as the basis for powerful modeling technique for blueprints of electronic market services.

In order to resolve the composite material multi-objective topology optimization in aircraft design, a multi-objective aircraft optimization system based on grid technology, the multi-objective optimization grid (MOOG) is put forward. Using grid middleware, MOOG pooled the distributed computational resource into a high-performance computing platform and built a common genetic algorithm computational model towards multi-objective topology optimization. this system provided uniform resource service and visible user using interface. this thesis discussed in detail the system design and the improved multi-objective genetic algorithm. Finally, the solid experimental results of optimizing one type of high aspect ratio wing show that the MOOG has reduced the computation time and has good parallel acceleration

An architectural description to capture dynamic aspects of software architecture provides the fundamental information to the external adaptation mechanism for self-adaptive systems. this paper presents a dAcme framework for distributed self-adaptive systems and introduces an architecture description language to address the dynamism of software architecture. In dAcme, the traditional model layer is separated into model and instance layers. Multi-domain constraints and self-adaptive tactics are extended based on basic Acme syntax. these extensions turn the analyzing and planning phase of the adaptation life circle into searching a solution for distributed constraint satisfactory problems. A media distribution case study is presented to demonstrate the expressiveness of the proposed approach

Tracking and tracing individual items is a new and emerging trend in many industries. Driven by maturing technologies such as radio-frequency identification (RFID) and upcoming standards such as the electronic product code (EPC), a rapidly increasing number of enterprises are collecting vast amounts of tracking data. To enable traceability over the entire life-cycle of items data has to be shared across independent and possibly competing enterprises. the need to simultaneously compete and cooperate requires a traceability system design that allows companies to share their traceability data while maintaining complete sovereignty over what is shared and with whom. Based on an extensive study of traceability applications, we introduce the formal concept of traceability networks and highlight the technical challenges involved in sharing data in such a network. To address these challenges, we present an innovative combination of query processing techniques from P2P networks and distributed as well as parallel databases with confidentiality enforcement techniques
