Nowadays in order to stay competitive, business needs to collaborate with each other to offer value added services. Collaborative business process development require loose coupling between individual business processes so that they can interoperate freely across the Internet and that the collaboration can be established in a highly dynamic fashion and on-demand basis. Service oriented computing (SOC) is able to meet such request by establishing business collaboration (BC) to utilize business processes (BPs) crossing organizational boundaries. BP is organizational based, which is about one organization composing services; while BC is choreographically based, which is about cooperation between organizations by linking their BPs. A successful BC development needs to follow the chorographical requirement to ensure the consistency among individual BPs across organizations. It also needs to meet the organizational requirements to ensure each organization's BP performs according to its business rules and conforms to what is specified from collaboration point of view. the current Web services (WS) technologies have provided specifications and tools for BC development. However methodologies, and real case study and experience report in BC development is lacking in the literature. In this paper a business collaboration framework (BCF) is proposed which breaks the BC requirements into 3 layers, each of which models different aspect in the BC development. Practical experience and issues on how to use the BCF is presented and discussed in a case study e veloping BC in capital marketplace (CM), a project sponsored by the Capital Markets Cooperative Research Centre (CMCRC)

Enterprise organizations use Data Warehouses (DWHs) analyze their performance. Performance is judged regarding the achievement of goals. DWH data models are well established. there exist numerous domain-specific modeling approaches. Enterprises also often model their goals in terms of formal or semiformal goal models. the problem is that these two aspects - the Data Warehouse and the Enterprise Goals - are described separately and not related to each other. We identify a need for combining these two aspects. If their relationship is made explicit, it can be used to enhance the way users access and interpret data in the DWH. To address this limitation, in this paper we introduce a weaving model between enterprise goals and DWH data. thus we present a domain-specific application of model weaving to an aspect of enterprise computing. We describe metamodels for both aspects as well as the weaving links between them, which allows to show the aspects separately but also in combination. We furthermore illustrate how to use the weaving links to create business metadata. Business metadata can be used in the DWH to describe the business context and implications of the data to the users, but is usually not available in today's DWHs. We apply our approach to a sample situation, which is used as a running example in the paper.

Currently technologies of Web services have greatly developed and provided a new application platform for CSCW. For a business process across enterprises, cooperation of multiple Web services is usually required to achieve the final goal. However, most current Web services choreography proposals, such as BPEL4WS or WSCI, only provide a fixed execution flow, lacking of flexibility and adaptability. In this paper, we propose a flexible workflow model TDWF, which can specify the execution process of Web services according to task dependency information, so that the Web services can be composed dynamically. We also put forward an algorithm to verify the correctness of the composition process. Besides, the proposed compensation mechanism of workflow could properly satisfy the requirements of end users

Peer-to-peer (P2P) networks suffer from the problem of "free- loaders", i.e., users who consume resources without contributing anything in return. In this paper, we tackle this problem taking a game theoretic perspective by modeling the system as a non-cooperative game. We introduce EquiCast, a wide-area P2P multicast protocol for large groups of selfish nodes. EquiCast is the first P2P multicast protocol that is formally proven to enforce cooperation in selfish environments. Additionally, we prove that EquiCaat incurs a low constant load on each user. To support high-performance and low-power for multimedia applications and for hand-held devices, embedded VLIW DSP processors are of research focus. Withthe tight resource constraints, distributed register files, variable-length encodings for instructions, and special data paths are frequently adopted. this creates challenges to deploy software toolkits for new embedded DSP processors. this article presents our methods and experiences to develop software and toolkit flows for PAC (parallel architecture core) VLIW DSP processors. Our toolkits include compilers, assemblers, debugger and DSP micro-kernels. We first retarget open research compiler (ORC) and toolkit chains for PAC VLIW DSP processor and address the issues to support distributed register files and ping-pong data paths for embedded VLIW DSP processors. Second, the linker and assembler are able to support variable length encoding schemes for DSP instructions. In addition, the debugger and DSP micro-kernel were designed to handle dual-core environments. the footprint of micro-kernel is also around 10K to address the code-size issues for embedded devices. We also present the experimental result in the compiler framework by incorporating software pipeline (SWP) policies for distributed register files in PAC architecture. Results indicated that our compiler framework gains performance improvement around 2.5 times against the code generated without our proposed optimizations

this paper describes WOW, a distributed system that combines virtual machine, overlay networking and peer-to-peer techniques to create scalable wide-area networks of virtual workstations for high-throughput computing. the system is architected to: facilitate the addition of nodes to a pool of resources through the use of system virtual machines (VMs) and self-organizing virtual network links; to maintain IP connectivity even if VMs migrate across network domains; and to present to end-users and applications an environment that is functionally identical to a local-area network or cluster of workstations. We describe a novel, extensible user-level decentralized technique to discover, establish and maintain overlay links to tunnel IP packets over different transports (including UDP and TCP) and across firewalls. We also report on several experiments conducted on a testbed WOW deployment with 118 P2P router nodes over PlanetLab and 33 VMware-based VM nodes distributed across six firewalled domains. Experiments show that the latency in joining a WOW network is of the order of seconds: in a set of 300 trials, 90% of the nodes self-configured P2P routes within 10 seconds, and more than 99% established direct connections to other nodes within 200 seconds. Experiments also show that the testbed delivers good performance for two unmodified, representative benchmarks drawn from the life-sciences domain. the testbed WOW achieves an overall throughput of 53 jobs/minute for PBS-scheduled executions of the MEME application (with average single-job sequential running time of 24.1s) and a parallel speedup of 13.5 for the PVM-based fastDNAml application. Experiments also demonstrate that the system is capable of seamlessly maintaining connectivity at the virtual IP layer for typical client/server applications (NFS, SSH, PBS) when VMs migrate across a WAN

Service-oriented architecture can improve e-business applications to be integrated and flexible. this paper proposes a multi-model driven collaborative development platform for service-oriented e-business systems. the platform provides three views, i.e., business view, process view, and service view to support service-oriented software engineering, top-down business planning and bottom-up service-oriented application development. Business and technical consultants can collaborate from distributed sites of, e.g., clients and IT vendors to provide their clients' with rapid development and demonstration. the proposed platform is driven by three models, i.e., service meta model, process model and business model. All of the three models support semantic description and rational operations, and facilitate intelligent service discovery, process execution and business-business integration. Concepts and implementation issues about the proposed platform has been presented in this paper. the platform has been developed and deployed in an innovation centre to be evaluated by visiting customers

Free-riding restricts the development of P2P systems. Existing incentive mechanisms take no consideration for the individual and social payoff. To address these problems, this paper presents a novel P2P incentive mechanism. Simulations show that the proposed mechanism can increase the social payoff of the whole P2P systems rapidly, and accelerate the cooperation between nodes.
