Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is a widely accepted paradigm for development of distributed applications using interoperable and flexible software components. Still the preferred technology for SOA implementation is provided by the web services. their interface as well as complex interactions are described with XML-based standards, such as Web Service Description Language (WSDL) and Business Process Execution Language for Web Services (WS-BPEL). the WSDL and WS-BPEL documents allow automation of test data generation through instantiation of the referenced XML Schemas. the approach proposed in this paper is a step towards such goal. It provides derivation of XML instances from a given XML Schema. the approach is automated in a software tool supporting data-driven test definition. the tool automatically extracts an XML Schema form a WSDL or WS-BPEL documents and generates XML messages needed for web service interactions. Since the proposed approach supports generation of both correct and incorrect XML instances, the tool is applicable to functional as well as robustness testing of web services.

A typical scenario in a stream data-flow processing engine is that users submit continues queries in order to receive the computational result once a new stream of data arrives. the focus of the paper is to design a dynamic CPU cap controller for stream data-flow applications with real-time constraints, in which the result of computations must be available within a short time period, specified by the user, once a recent update in the input data occurs. It is common that the stream data-flow processing engine is deployed over a cluster of dedicated or virtualized server nodes, e.g., Cloud or Edge platform, to achieve a faster data processing. However, the attributes of incoming stream data-flow might fluctuate in an irregular way. To effectively cope with such unpredictable conditions, the underlying resource manager needs to be equipped with a dynamic resource provisioning mechanism to ensure the real-time requirements of different applications. the proposed solution uses control theory principals to achieve a good utilization of computing resources and a reduced average response time. the proposed algorithm dynamically adjusts the required quality of service (QoS) in an environment when multiple stream & data-flow processing applications concurrently run with unknown and volatile workloads. Our study confirms that such a unpredictable demand can negatively degrade the system performance, mainly due to adverse interference in the utilization of shared resources. Unlike prior research studies which assumes a static or zero correlation among the performance variability among consolidated applications, we presume the prevalence of shared-resource interference among collocated applications as a key performance-limiting parameter and confront it in scenarios where several applications have different QoS requirements with unpredictable workload demands. the performance of parallel programs can be largely affected by the latency of remote memory references. the notion of affinity has been used extensively for scheduling programmer defined threads to reduce remote communication costs. the most popular approach has been to schedule the thread as close to the data as possible. Most of the existing techniques expect the programmer to annotate affinity related information used by the scheduler. In this paper, we propose a framework that qualifies and quantifies various possible affinities playing a role in memory access latency in a system comprising of threads, processor nodes and data objects. We propose a technique based on cost functions to arrive at affinity information that can be used for reducing latencies. the affinity information thus obtained can be used in a number of ways such as: (1) transform the user program automatically (i.e., oblivious to the programmer); (2) highlight the user code in the integrated development toolkit used by the programmer; and (3) provide annotations that can be understood by the scheduler in making dynamic decisions of allocating objects and assigning threads to nodes. We support our framework and algorithm with the case studies/experiments done so far.

Large-scale models are mathematical models with a lot of natural uncertainties in their input data sets and parameters. Sensitivity analysis (SA) is a powerful tool for studying the impact of these uncertainties on the output results and helps to improve the reliability of these models. In this article we present some results of a global sensitivity study of the Unified Danish Eulerian Model (UNI-DEM). A large number of heavy numerical experiments must be carried out in order to collect the necessary data for such comprehensive sensitivity study. One of the largest supercomputers in Europe and the most powerful in Bulgaria, the petascale EuroHPC supercomputer Discoverer is used to perform efficiently this huge amount of computations. One of the most important features of UNI-DEM is its advanced chemical scheme, called Condensed CBM IV, which considers a large number of chemical species and all significant reactions between them. the ozone is one of the most harmful pollutants, that is why it is important for many practical applications to study it precisely. Stochastic methods based on Adaptive approach and Sobol sequences are used for computing the corresponding sensitivity measures. We show by experiments that the stochastic algorithms for calculating the multidimensional integrals under consideration are one of the best stochastic techniques for computing the small in value sensitivity indices. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

this work describes a probabilistic neural network (PNN) committee machine for Peer-to-Peer data mining. the pattern neurons of the PNN committee are composed of locally trained class-specialized regularization network Peer classifiers. the training takes into account the asynchronous distributed and privacy-preserving requirements that can be met in P2P systems. the Peer classifiers are first trained in parallel based on their local data. While no local data exchange is possible among them, the peers can exchange their classifiers in the form of binaries, or agents. then an asynchronous distributed computing P2P cycle is executed to construct a mutual validation matrix. the train set of one Peer becomes the validation set of the other and only average rates are returned back. From this matrix we demonstrate that it is possible to perform weight based ensemble selection of best peer members for every class and in this way to find class-specialized Peer modules for the committee machine.

Synchronous algorithms constitute an important class of algorithms for parallel and distributed processing. We present several cache-aware load-balancing mechanisms for synchronous computations on shared-memory multiprocessors. We show both theoretically and empirically that the mechanisms incur a very low overhead. the mechanism is tested with a number of applications that rely on synchronous computations. the results confirm that one of the mechanisms proposed is highly efficient and is scalable to more processors.

Abstract only given, as follows. Many organization have major investments in information systems, ranging from legacy programs written in COBOL to newer relational database management systems. these distributed heterogeneous information systems (DHISs) do not generally interoperate or share information. However, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software products are becoming available that can make DHISs appear as though they were a single integrated system. MITRE recently completed an internal project that examined two COTS DHIS integration products in a test environment consisting of six information systems, and two clients running on eight platforms in three cities. Based on this prototyping effort, the authors believe that there are many applications in which DHIS integration technologies would be appropriate. the paper includes an overview of prototypes, a description of the work done, and a summary of the lessons learned.< >

A key problem when coordinating the behaviour of devices in situated networks (e.g., pervasive computing, smart cities, Internet of things, wireless sensor networks) is adaptation to changes impacting network topology, density, and heterogeneity. Computational goals for such systems are often expressed in terms of geometric properties of the continuous environment in which the devices are situated, and the results of resilient computations should depend primarily on that continuous environment, rather than the particulars of how devices happen to be distributed through it. In this paper, we identify a new property of distributed algorithms, eventual consistency, which guarantees that computation self-stabilizes to a final state that approximates a predictable limit as the density and speed of devices increases. We then identify a large class of programs that are eventually consistent, building on prior results on the field calculus computational model to identify a class of self-stabilizing programs. Finally, we confirm through simulation of pervasive network scenarios that eventually consistent programs from this class can provide resilient behavior where programs that are only self-stabilizing fail badly.

this paper aims to propose a solution to address issues related to small file storage, data retrieval speed, and system resource consumption in existing technologies. the main approach involves federating Elasticsearch and MinIO clusters to form an efficient federated cluster. Based on this foundation, file upload operations and validity checks are implemented to ensure file effectiveness and security. Files that pass the checks are stored in the MinIO federated cluster to achieve efficient data storage and management. Simultaneously, the file addresses from the MinIO cluster are mapped, and the file information is synchronized with the Elasticsearch cluster to enable fast data retrieval and redundant storage. Finally, user access to files through applications is supported, ensuring that users can efficiently and conveniently obtain the required files. through these measures, this approach not only improves the efficiency of small file storage and retrieval but also optimizes system resource usage, providing a reliable distributed storage solution. Experimental results demonstrate that this approach enables small file storage through Elasticsearch and MinIO.
