this paper aims to propose a solution to address issues related to small file storage, data retrieval speed, and system resource consumption in existing technologies. the main approach involves federating Elasticsearch and MinIO clusters to form an efficient federated cluster. Based on this foundation, file upload operations and validity checks are implemented to ensure file effectiveness and security. Files that pass the checks are stored in the MinIO federated cluster to achieve efficient data storage and management. Simultaneously, the file addresses from the MinIO cluster are mapped, and the file information is synchronized with the Elasticsearch cluster to enable fast data retrieval and redundant storage. Finally, user access to files through applications is supported, ensuring that users can efficiently and conveniently obtain the required files. through these measures, this approach not only improves the efficiency of small file storage and retrieval but also optimizes system resource usage, providing a reliable distributed storage solution. Experimental results demonstrate that this approach enables small file storage through Elasticsearch and MinIO.

Transactional memory (TM) is receiving attention as a way of expressing parallelism for programming multi-core systems. As a parallel programming model it is able to avoid the complexity of conventional locking. TM can enable multi-core hardware that dispenses with conventional bus-based cache coherence, resulting in simpler and more extensible systems. this is increasingly important as we move into the many-core era. Within TM, however, the processes of conflict detection and committing still require synchronization and the broadcast of data. By increasing the granularity of when synchronization is required, the demands on communication are reduced. Software implementations of TM have taken advantage of the fact that the object structure of data can be employed to further raise the level at which interference is observed. the contribution of this paper is the first hardware TM approach where the object structure is recognized and harnessed. this leads to novel commit and conflict detection mechanisms, and also to an elegant solution to the virtualization of version management, without the need for additional software TM support. A first implementation of the proposed hardware TM system is simulated. the initial evaluation is conducted with three benchmarks derived from the STAMP suite and a transactional version of Lee's routing algorithm.

Midimew-Connected Gaussian Network (MGN) is a hierarchical interconnection network which is able to interconnect millions of nodes in the network to achieve high performance and cost-effective design for massively parallel computing system (MPC). MGN consists of multiple basic modules with Wrap-around links (MIDIMEW) to form the higher level network, where the basic module of MGN is dense Gaussian network with additional links in its edge nodes. this paper focuses on the architecture design of MGN, and computes the performance parameters such as degree, arc connectivity, bisection width and wiring complexity. the results show that the MGN design has better performance than other network topologies such as hierarchical Gaussian network (HGN).

the convergence of HPC and Big Data along with the influence of Cloud are playing an important role in the democratization of HPC. the increasing needs of Data Analytics in computational power has added new fields of interest for the HPC facilities but also new problematics such as interoperability with Cloud and ease of use. Besides the typical HPC applications, these infrastructures are now asked to handle more complex workflows combining Machine Learning, Big Data and HPC. this brings challenges on the resource management, scheduling and environment deployment layers. Hence, enhancements are needed to allow multiple frameworks to be deployed under common system management while providing the right abstraction to facilitate adoption. this paper presents the architecture adopted for the parallel and distributed execution management software stack of Cybele EU funded project which is put in place on production HPC centers to execute hybrid data analytics workflows in the context of precision agriculture and livestock farming applications. the design is based on: Kubernetes as a higher level orchestrator of Big Data components, hybrid workflows and a common interface to submit HPC or Big Data jobs;Slurm or Torque for HPC resource management;and Singularity containerization platform for the dynamic deployment of the different Data Analytics frameworks on HPC. the paper showcases precision agriculture workflows being executed upon the architecture and provides some initial performance evaluation results and insights for the whole prototype design. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

the systematic engineering of Cyber-Physical Systems is a challenging endeavour. In order to manage the complexity of such multi-disciplinary development collaborative modelling and co-simulation has been proposed. In this setting models are made of different constituent models with different mathematical formalisms using different tools. this paper demonstrates how this can be achieved for a commercial system developed by MAN Diesel & Turbo using such a co-simulation approach. the tool chain is centered around a de-facto standard called Functional Mock-up Interface, and it is open for any tools that can support version 2.0 of this standard for co-simulation. the application support emission reduction control systems for large two-stroke engines which is strategically important. It is demonstrated how this approach can reduce the need for expensive tests on the real system in order to reduce the overall costs of validation. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Machine learning (ML) algorithms have been widely deployed in mobile edge computing (MEC). Howerver, algorithms in MEC always demands high computational power to process complex models and large datasets in real-time. A critical component of this computational workload is matrix multiplication, a fundamental operation in many ML algorithms, particularly in deep learning. To meet the stringent latency and performance requirements of MEC applications, leveraging Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) acceleration for matrix multiplication is essential. GPUs, with their massive parallel processing capabilities, can significantly enhance the efficiency and speed of matrix computations, enabling rapid inference and training at the edge. this acceleration not only reduces the latency but also offloads the central cloud, providing a more distributed and scalable solution for real-time ML applications at the edge. To this end, this paper first introduces the background of using matrix multiplication to accelerate model training speed in ML for MEC, clarifies the significance of accelerating matrix multiplication to ML and MEC, then reviews and experiments on existing schemes for accelerating matrix multiplication and compares and summarizes various schemes from the perspective of different sparsity of matrices on the GPU. Finally, we points out the possible future research directions and technical challenges, and provides the certain reference value for the research in related fields.

the idea to use the World-Wide Web as a platform for the design and implementation of telecooperation applications is not new but there are only a few prototypes in use outside the research environment. In recent years the World Wide Web (WWW) has achieved a widespread use in commerce and industry as well as for educational purposes. though, originally, the WWW was intended primarily for the distribution of information, it can be used successfully for enabling, and supporting cooperative work this paper describes a cooperation environment that uses the World Wide Web as a platform for communication and offers a number of functions for supporting collaboration in an workgroup environment. the basic idea is to provide the cooperation partners with a shared workspace on the Internet. Users perform their cooperation activities via this workspace by means of the standard WWW browsers. Furthermore, the system offers additional functions such as information about events and processes occurring in a workspace. the system provides cross-platform collaboration services to groups using existing Web technologies.

We discuss the specialty and the limitations found in the mobile computing environment to motivate the reader on the necessity of having methods for developing mobile computing applications in the object oriented paradigm. It is shown that existing specification models, like Objectchart, do not model effects due to location awareness and other typical phenomena, like hands-off and hands-on. We previously introduced Mobichart, a notation to specify mobile computing applications (Acharya, S. et al., Proc. 36th Hawaii Int. Conf. on System Sciences, 2003). We show that Mobichart can address the drawbacks of Objectchart and can be used to model mobile computing applications.

the use of the Federated Learning paradigm could be disruptive in robotics, where data are naturally distributed among teams of agents and centralizing them would increase latency and break privacy. Unfortunately there are a lack of robot oriented framework for federated learning that use state of the art machine learning libraries. ROS2 (Robot Operating Systems) is a standard de-facto in robotics for building up teams of robots in a multi-node fully distributed manner. In this paper we presents the integration of ROS2 with PyTorch allowing an easy training of a global machine learning model starting from a set of local datasets. We present the architecture, the used methodology and finally we discuss the experimentation results over a well-known public dataset.

Global competition and the customers demand for customized products with shorter due dates, marked the introduction of the Extended Enterprise. In this Extended Manufacturing Environment (EME), lean, virtual, networked and distributed enterprises collaborate to respond to the market demands. In this paper we study the influence of the batch size on Flexible Flow Shop makespan minimization problem FF C ||C max for two multi-sites approaches, the FSBF (Flow Shop Based Factories) and the PMBF (parallel-Machines Based Factories). the computational study demonstrates how the performance of the PMBF model decreases with the increase of batch size and determines the batch sizes in which the performance is similar.
