parallel query processing over data streams in cloud computing environments has attracted considerable attention recently in various fields, due to the huge potential value of analyzing massive data or big data in a large number of streaming applications. Nevertheless, existing studies on queries primarily focus on the algorithms for the specific query types with the lack of the general framework for processing various queries. Moreover, existing parallel frameworks in cloud such as MapReduce and its variations are not suitable for many complex queries over complex data streams. In this paper, we extensively discuss the problem of designing the general framework for parallel queries over data streams in cloud. Particularly, we propose and implement a framework called GPS, which can be well adapted to various queries over complex data streams like the uncertain data streams. Furthermore, we further propose a hierarchical and general parallel model for queries over data streams based on the proposed framework, which is more flexible than the MapReduce model. the skyline queries over uncertain data streams based on our proposed framework with real deployment are conducted as an example to verify the performances of our proposals.

Traditionally, a parallel application is partitioned, mapped and then routed on a network of compute nodes where the topology of the interconnection network is known beforehand and is homogeneous. However, such homogeneity in interconnects is rarely required or needed for several important classes of applications. Nevertheless such interconnects are designed this way, i.e., with redundant links, to accommodate the communication patterns of a wide range of applications. However, with recent advances in technology for optical circuit switches, it is now possible to construct network with much fewer links, and to make the link endpoints configurable to suit the communication pattern of a given application. While this is economical (saving both links and the power to run them), it raises the difficult problem of how to configure the network and how to reconfigure it quickly when the application's communication pattern changes. Since the space of all configurable topologies is large and determining the quality of a topology is a time-consuming process, it is not feasible to explore the entire space. One way of dealing with this limitation is to start the search from a "good" initial topology and then conduct a restricted search around it. the success of such a strategy crucially depends on the choice of the initial or seed topology. In the past, such an initial topology was computed by mimicking the communication requirements of the application. In this paper, we propose a different approach by showing that interconnect topologies such as chordal rings(circulant graphs) chosen based on metrics such as bisection width and average shortest path length can provide a better starting point. the topology obtained by searching around such an initial topology provides almost as good a performance as an application-specific initial topology, and the search time is significantly reduced. © 2013 IEEE.

When reasoning about distributed systems, it is essential to have information about the different kinds of nodes which compose the system, how many instances of each kind exist, and how nodes communicate with other nodes. In this paper we present a static-analysis-based approach which is able to provide information about the questions above. In order to cope with an unbounded number of nodes and an unbounded number of calls among them, the analysis performs an abstraction of the system producing a graph whose nodes may represent (infinitely) many concrete nodes and arcs represent any number of (infinitely) many calls among nodes. the crux of our approach is that the abstraction is enriched with upper bounds inferred by a resource analysis which limit the number of concrete instances which the nodes and arcs represent. the combined information provided by our approach has interesting applications such as debugging, optimizing and dimensioning distributed systems. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

the computing-cloud manages huge numbers of virtualized resources to provide uniquely beneficial computing paradigms for scientific research. A modern cloud can behave in a virtual context - much like a local homogeneous computer cluster - to deliver High Performance computing (HPC) platforms that provide public users with access, cut purchase costs, and eliminate the maintenance burden of sophisticated hardware. For decades most distributed scientific computing software has been designed to run on clusters. Research on how to transplant cluster-based programs and performance-tuning mechanisms onto the cloud platform has gathered momentum in recent years. this paper introduces a fault tolerant approach that assures the reliability virtual clusters on clouds where high-performance and data-intensive computing paradigms are deployed. We have solved the failure recovery issue for TCP connections containing MPI error handlers by exploiting and modeling the constraints of low-level distributed resources. the combined MPI and TCP environment can support software development for multiple parallel programming models, including asynchronous distributed computing based on MPI for scientific HPC and synchronous distributed computing for big data, such as MapReduce and Pregal. this paper sets out detailed MPI/TCP fault-tolerant mechanisms, including primitives and functions. these elements enable the systematic and hierarchical development of a globally optimized HPC on the cloud platform.

In this paper we concentrate on embedded parallel architectures with heterogeneous memory management systems combining shared and local memories, and more precisely we focus on efficient data communications between the various architecture parts. We formulate explicit data transfers in a polyhedral context and give several strategies for managing efficient communications for redundantly stored/read data. this allows automatic DMA-style code generation for a variety of data mappings onto parallel processing elements. Our approach is validated on a wide series of data redistribution examples linked with a domain-specific parallelisation framework developed in thales, SpearDE. We give the solution for efficient data transfers mathematically as well as under the form of generated C code.

We develop a parallel algorithm, by using CUDA, for calculating the concentration of multifunctional magnetic nanoparticles in capillaries under the influences of magnetic force, blood flow and diffusion process. the task of computing particle, concentration on the considered plane is distributed to computational threads. the continuity equation describing the time rate of change of the multifunctional particle concentration in each small element on the considered plane is solved via the explicit finite different method. the simulation results show the distributions of particle concentration on the focused plane in the blood vessel which are useful visualization for the biomedical researchers. the performance of parallel computing is also examined.

Wireless sensor networks (WSN) is a key technology extensively applied in many fields, such as transportation, health-care and environment monitoring. Despite rapid development, the exponentially increasing data emanating from WSN is not efficiently stored and used. Besides, the data from multiple different types and locations of WSN needs to be well analyzed, fused and supplied to various types of clients, such as PC, workstation and smart phone. the emerging cloud computing technology provides scalable data process and storage power and some types of connectable services, which can helpfully utilize sensor data from WSN. In this paper, we propose an integration framework of cloud computing with WSN, in which sensor data is transmitted from WSN to cloud, and processed and stored in cloud, then mined and analyzed so as to be supplied to various clients. By applying virtualization and cloud storage technology, and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS) of cloud service model, the framework can fully process and store mass sensor data from multiple types of WSN. Besides, it efficiently mines and analyzes sensor data, based on which the data applications are well supplied to various types of clients in form of services. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media.

Deadline assignment is to assign each subtask composing a distributed task with a local deadline such that the global deadline can be met. Today's real-time systems often need to handle hundreds or even thousands of concurrent customer (or service) requests. therefore, deadline assignment is becoming an increasingly challenging issue with a large number of parallel and distributed subtasks. However, most conventional strategies are designed to deal with a single independent task rather than a batch of many parallel tasks in a shared resource environment such as cloud computing. To address such an issue, in this paper, instead of assigning local deadline for each subtask, we propose a novel strategy which can efficiently assign local throughput constraints for a batch of parallel tasks at any time point along the system timeline. the basis of this strategy is a novel throughput consistency model which can measure the probability of on-time completion at any given time point. the experimental results demonstrate that our strategy can achieve significant time reduction in deadline assignment and achieve the most "consistency" between global and local deadlines compared with other representative strategies.

Modern advances in computer technology will definitely have a great impact on the methodologies used in the expansion and operational planning of power systems. parallel and distributed systems are the new tendencies in technologies that present a great potential for application in these areas. Graphics processing units (GPUs) have recently become popular in several fields of science due to their capability of performing massively large computational tasks. the use of a GPU for efficiently obtaining the periodic steady state solution in the time domain of large-scale electric power systems with nonlinear components is presented in this paper. Two programming models of the numerical differentiation process are proposed and implemented on a single GPU. the computation time of the simulation performed by co-processing GPU-CPU has been compared with the simulation time required when using a conventional CPU. Several test cases have been analyzed to demonstrate the acceleration of the GPU-CPU simulation and the speed-up achieved.

this paper presents X10-PM, a framework that provides APGAS-based programs with place migration support for flexible and efficient resource management, such as server consolidation and coarse-grained load balancing. X10-PM makes the first attempt to add migration support at the granularity of a place to the X10 programs, which is transparent to the application developers with the help of the X10-PM compiler and runtime. the evaluation results show that the migration overhead is modest. this is mainly because X10-PM chooses global consistent points to ensure consistency of migration, by leveraging the key features of the APGAS model and the X10 language.
