When studying the IXP Network processor architecture from Intel, we found quite some interesting aspects that make the IXP attractive for stream-based applications. the architecture is highly optimized for streaming data, albeit in the form of internet packets. Furthermore, the architecture has Gigabit Ethernet connectors for handling incoming and outgoing traffic and can process this data at real-time using dedicated microengines. In this paper, we try to answer three questions;1) Can we use the IXP architecture for stream-based applications? 2) can we map applications written as a KPN onto an IXP? 3) can we integrate the generation of KPNs using the Compaan compiler with a tool flow that maps the KPN to an IXP, thereby make the programming of IXP much simpler? As will be shown, all three steps can be performed and we show that we can map automatically two non-internet stream-based applications (QR and DWT) onto the IXP.

Independent simulations often have unique database structures. Incompatibilities between these structures render it difficult to share input and output data with other simulations, making it difficult for a designer to predict multiple aspects of building performance at the same time. the integration of algorithms provides one means of overcoming some of these limitations and of increasing the efficiency and prediction accuracy of performance tools. DeST (Designer's Simulation Toolkit) is a custom environment in which multiple simulation engines are integrated into one system. this paper presents a newly developed IFC (Industry Foundation Classes)-based common database, the advantages and limitations of integration with DeST database structure and its object expansion to various domain integration will be discussed.

In this paper we introduce a method for knowledge extraction in early stages of design by the interpretation of low-level CAD data, i.e, the geometry of mechanical products. therefore, only the 3D CAD model of the product, including its components, is needed. the information about physical principles and functions is extracted automatically. First a more detailed introduction to the design process in mechanical engineering is presented. this enables the reader to understand the information which is accumulated during product design and which must be recognized during the interpretation process, i.e. the redesign. then the approach of low-level CAD data interpretation is presented in detail. this includes the recognition of physical principles and product functions and. the automatic construction of effective geometries and function structures. At the end the approach is verified by presenting an example of a product geometry, which is interpreted stepwise.

In this study, machine learning algorithms are trained and compared to identify and characterise impacts effects on typical aerospace panels with different geometries. Experiments are conducted to create a suitable impact dataset. Polynomial regression algorithms and shallow neural networks are applied to panels without stringers and optimised to test their ability to identify the impacts. the algorithms are then applied to panels reinforced with stringers, which represents a significant increase in complexity in terms of the dynamic characteristics of the system under test. the focus is not only on the detection of the impact position, but also on the severity of the event. the aim of the work is to demonstrate the validity of the application of machine learning to impact localization on realistic structures and to demonstrate the simplicity and efficiency of the computations despite the complexity of the test specimens.
