Vigilance decrement happens in prolonged and monotonous tasks such as driving, therefore efficient estimation of vigilance using machine learning becomes a growing research field in road safety. However, the ground truth of vigilance level is often unknown. To address the estimation of brain states with unknown ground truth, we proposed an unsupervised manifold clustering method guided by task performance, namely instantaneous lapse rate, without directly using any artificially labels, using electroencephalogram (EEG) as data source. the proposed algorithm utilizes information from both data structure and task performance, which is especially suitable for applications with unknown ground truth. Future research directions include using advanced manifold clustering algorithms to increase the robustness towards the high nonlinearity in the EEG feature space and the embedded space, as well as allowing the mapping from multiple clusters to one vigilance level.

Template metaprograms have become an essential part of today's C++ programs: with proper template definitions we can force the C++ compiler to execute algorithms at compilation time. Among the application areas of template metaprograms are the expression templates, static interface checking, code optimization with adaptation, language embedding and active libraries. Despite all of its already proven benefits and numerous successful applications there are surprisingly few tools for creating, supporting, and analyzing C++ template metaprograms. As metaprograms are executed at compilation time they are even harder to understand. In this paper we present a code visualization tool, which is utilizing Tem plight, our previously developed C++ template metaprogram debugger. Using the tool it is possible to visualize the instantiation chain of C++ templates and follow the execution of metaprograms. Various presentation layers, filtering of template instances and step-by-step replay of the instantiations are supported. Our tool can help to test, optimize, maintain C++ template metaprograms, and can enhance their acceptance in the software industry.

Nowadays, the occurrence of breast cancer amongst women has been increasing tremendously. To predict the breast cancer occurrence, physicians are in need of computer assisted way of feature extraction and classification approaches. In this scenario, there is even a greater need to maintain the privacy of patients personalized details. Many algorithms exist in literature that are used for data anonymization. the fundamental disadvantage of all these algorithms lies in limiting the ability to derive better value and insights from the data. In this proposed approach a differential privacy preserving algorithm is employed. this algorithm alters particulars of patients vital information in the data set. thus, it not only improves the privacy of patient details compared to other existing approaches but also helps in getting accurate results. the advantage is that it will have the least impact on the accuracy of the truth discovery approach as the appropriate features for cancer prediction data set are not altered. For predicting the truth discovery, this proposed system employs Expectation- Maximization Algorithm. this proposed approach is first of its kind in combining the differential privacy preservation technique with truth discovery strategy. Finally, the performance evaluation was estimated in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score and the outcomes are compared to that of the existing approaches to prove the effectiveness of the proposed mechanism.

the growing dependence on eTextbooks and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) has led to an increase in the amount of students’ learning data. By carefully analyzing this data, educators can identify difficult exercises, and evaluate the quality of the exercises when teaching a particular topic. In this study, an analysis of log data from the semester usage of the OpenDSA eTextbook was offered to identify the most difficult data structure course exercises and to evaluate the quality of the course exercises. Our study is based on analyzing students’ responses to the course exercises. We applied Item Response theory (IRT) analysis and a Latent Trait Mode (LTM) to identify the most difficult exercises. To evaluate the quality of the course exercises we applied the IRT theory. Our findings showed that the exercises that related to algorithm analysis topics represented the most difficult exercises, and there existing six exercises were classified as poor exercises which could be improved or need some attention.

Automatically detecting anomalies in streams of events is crucial for many applications in communications, security, healthcare, finance and real-time systems. In communication systems, it can be used to forecast equipment breakdowns or to detect unprecedented issues that do not trigger any alarms. Several methods have been proposed to detect anomalies in streams of events but they are not suited to detect large-scale anomalies with different durations and features. In this paper, we first propose a new data structure called s-digest to learn the distributions of values originating from streams of events for multiple time-scales. the structure is then used to conceive an unsupervised multi-scale method able to detect anomalies with different durations and characteristics. the method withstands high-throughput streams of events, is highly scalable and memory efficient. We then simulate a mobile network based on actual data from a commercial LTE network and apply our method to detect various anomalies and prove its accuracy and practicability.

Chidamber and Kemerer (1991) proposed an object-oriented (OO) metric suite which included the Lack of Cohesion Of Methods (LCOM) metric. Despite considerable effort both theoretically and empirically since then, the software engineering community is still no nearer finding a generally accepted definition or measure of OO cohesion. Yet, achieving highly cohesive software is a cornerstone of software comprehension and hence, maintainability. In this paper, we suggest a number of suppositions as to why a definition has eluded (and we feel will continue to elude) us. We support these suppositions with empirical evidence from three large C++ systems and a cohesion metric based on the parameters of the class methods; we also draw from other related work. Two major conclusions emerge from the study. Firstly, any sensible cohesion metric does at least provide insight into the features of the systems being analysed. Secondly however, and less reassuringly, the deeper the investigative search for a definitive measure of cohesion, the more problematic its understanding becomes; this casts serious doubt on the use of cohesion as a meaningful feature of object-orientation and its viability as a tool for software comprehension.

Recently, many researchers are intensely engaged in investigation on the artificial intelligence technology that recognizes, learns, inferences, and acts on external information in a wide range of fields by combining technologies of computing, big data and machine learning algorithms. the artificial intelligence technology is currently used in almost all industries, and many machine learning experts are working on integrating and standardizing various machine learning tools so that non-experts can easily apply them to their domain. the researchers are also studying an autonomous machine learning as well as ontology construction for standardizing the machine learning concepts. In this paper, we classify typical problem solving steps for autonomous machine learning as tasks, and present a problem solving process. We propose the modeling method of an autonomous machine learning using a processes of the task execution on machine learning such as workflow. the proposed task ontology-based machine learning model defines a task-based process grouping scheme of UML activities. And it will automatically generate and extend the machine learning models by transformation rules based on common elements and structures (relationships and processes between elements).

In this paper, we study the definability and decidability of binary predicates for time granularity with respect to monadic theories over finitely and infinitely layered structures. We focus our attention on the equi-level (resp. equi-column) predicate constraining two time points to belong to the same layer (resp. column) and on the horizontal (resp. vertical) successor predicate relating a time point to its successor within a given layer (resp. column). We give a number of positive and negative results by reduction to/from a wide spectrum of decidable/undecidable problems.

this paper investigates triangular electrode structures for electrostatic energy-harvesting devices. By analysis of the electrode geometry, we identified the angle a, which is half the angle defined by the two equal sides of the isosceles triangle, to be an important design parameter. Moreover, triangular electrodes provide a larger capacitance change per unit displacement and also a larger total capacitance change than area-overlap and gap-closing designs. Fabricated devices were characterized using two different circuit configurations. Our results show a nonlinear frequency response (softening behaviour) due to the nonlinear capacitance characteristic of the triangular electrodes. However, the nonlinear capacitance characteristic allows tuning the resonance frequency of the device. We also observed that a bias voltage as low as 8 V allows effective operation of the energy-harvesting device. Finally, we demonstrate successful charging of a 20 mu F energy storage capacitor to a practical voltage level of 3.5 V. the harvested energy was applied to a low power transmission module which successfully transmitted a data communication protocol.

the small-signal analysis of an oscillator relative to a periodic steady-state (PSS) would generate periodic time-varying characteristic poles. Analyzing periodic root-loci can provide useful design information, which is not available from the existing circuit simulation tools. Although the numerical QZ algorithm can be used to generate periodic root-loci, this paper proposes an alternative symbolic computation method for repeated pole computation. It is demonstrated that the Muller algorithm can be used for finding the dominant periodic roots of a characteristic polynomial with periodic coefficients, whose efficiency is superior to the matrix-based numerical QZ method. Other advantages of symbolic root-locus analysis also are explored by applying the proposed method to the analysis of two oscillator circuits.
